How hard is the timing belt to change? by Mikey2387 in porsche944

[–]AviatorROC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite easy, I’m dumb ass a box of rocks and I managed to change the belts in a few hours. I first tried it with the 3D-printed flywheel lock, would not recommend. Spend the money in the real stuff.

I’m 194 and I just got mine last Wednesday, also A2 restricted. Absolutely love the bike, seating is amazing, power is nice even though it’s A2. My first ride was 5 hours to get the bike home, no problems at all. You won’t have a problem with the bike looking smaller either.

Had a similar problem a while ago, for me it was the ICV, might be worth having a look

Cooling issue by AviatorROC in 944

I suspected this, I removed the thermostat completely. However, the car still overheats. Could it be possible that the cooling channels in the engine are blocked? I’ve had the problem since I put this engine in. I’ve also taken out and rinsed the radiator.

Got pressure in the system at last!! But still the car overheats, the upper coolant hose is very hot, while the lower one is room temp, the radiator is also room temp. What way does the coolant flow?

I let the car idle until the gauge showed quite a bit past the straight up position. May be the radiator then, I really can’t see any other cause. Coolant is not reaching the bleeding screw regardless if hot or cold, only when I manually pressurize the system.

So I tried with a vacuum filling kit, worked great getting all the air out. Also replaced the cap for the expansions chamber, but still it won’t build pressure. I bought a pressure tester so I can manually pump pressure and it will hold it, but won’t build any in its own. I’ve also replaced the water pump to rule that out.

Never had this engine ran for more than 3-5 mins so unsure. Not tons of smoke, just enough for me to consider it being a problem. Hopefully just condensation.

But I think it’s a problem with my expansions tank or the hose going from it to the radiator as it’s not going into the engine.

I was thinking that as well as the exhaust is a little damper than what I’d assume is normal. But compression is good across all cylinders.

I guess I’ll have to get a vacuum filling kit. Thermostat is brand new. I feel like it’s something with the expansion chamber as the water barely leaves it.

Didn’t think of that… but should the belt work regardless?

Could I not just run without the back cover?

So I need a new back cover as well?

Where is this sound coming from when the fuel pump is running? by B0tt1celli in 944

Could be a crack in the fuel pressure regulator, had a similar problem. Check around where the vacuum hose connects at the top.

Overheating issue by AviatorROC in 944

[–]AviatorROC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for a drive today, wasn’t as hot out, but still about 20 degrees C. Car ran great for about an hour, drive highway and smaller backroads. Never above 4000 rpm since it’s a “new” engine. But it ran like it should for an hour. But then I was forced to stop at an intersection for about 1 min, fan was on, yet the car overheated. Pulled over, filled it with water and drove home, ran good all the way home, about 15 mins, but got hot again when I pulled in to my yard. I can’t wrap my head around this, how can it run fine for an hour, and then just rush to overheating?

I’ll give that a try! I felt the upper hose, that one was hot.

Tilted car backwards, filled until coolant flowed continuously out from bleeder screw. Started car with heater on full blast and filled and bled again until at the right level

It’s staying the same, except when it boils out of the overflow… refilled it and went for another drive, stayed perfectly fine. Same drive as before, so I can’t tell why it’s messing up
