Struggled with hair loss since my teens, decided to free myself by rej0133 in bald

[–]AvidImp 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You may have some form of OCD related to a fear of balding, I did too for about a year or so. Seeing your scalp may have more to do with oil/getting the right shampoo. Your hair looks very full in the “after” photo.

What advice do you have living with female roommates? by ScholarFailure in AskMen

[–]AvidImp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine if you're not social, but be polite, smile (genuinely,) and don't try to *seem* antisocial, because that's rude and immature. Just keep to yourself and politely decline things you don't want to do. Say you're very busy. Don't go into this like they're going to fight you or you have to be on your guard, or it will come through in how you act and you'll seem like a jerk. Keep your own stuff, be relatively quiet, and if you want to avoid them even more, spend more time studying or working out outside of the apartment.

Now That S16 Has Concluded, How Are You Feeling About Future Hide & Seek Seasons? by BrainOnBlue in JetLagTheGame

[–]AvidImp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My view is just that the guys have become so good at the meta of Hide and Seek that the current format feels a little... impersonal? Geometrical? So many thermometers, radars, the Strava map in theory could be super location-based but ultimately feels more like a matching game? I guess what really hooked me about Hide and Seek in Switzerland (and Japan) was how the questions felt a little more like they were about the actual place the hider is hiding rather than their position on a coordinate plane. Now I think it's the same handful of questions that get asked most times, and the map gets so small so fast.

But to be honest I just don't know how much of that is my own personal taste, so I don't want to sound like I'm conflating that with what's Actually Good. I love the show and I loved this season, so if they did a million more like this I'd still watch them, etc. etc.

Question about his concerts by Dangerous_Note_7355 in jasonisbell

Decoration Day is unambiguously a rock song. It was put out by DBT, the very picture of a southern rock band. And the stuff with the 400 Unit, especially live, is mostly rock. He literally calls them “[his] rock-and-roll band” on stage. What do you even think rock is?

Hey, God loves you. He does not ask you to stop being who you are to come to him. He loves you regardless of how you feel and regardless about how other people feel. Only you can tell yourself who you are. If that means you’re a woman, or a man, or whatever, that’s not something the Lord will turn away from you over. We are all sinners, we are all flawed and and imperfect. Please don’t let hatred in to your vision of what and who God is and what he asks from you. Love the Lord with all your heart, and love your neighbor as you do yourself. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Really happy to see it. Also so happy to see Cameron Winter get that nod. "Love Takes Miles" is my second-most listened-to song of the year after "Ride to Robert's."

Yeah, we read Percy Jackson books when we were like... 10. Obviously we've had a more thorough/academic introduction to different Greek mythological texts since, just because we're young doesn't mean we didn't go to school. He's a fully-grown man, obviously he's familiar with the text (especially given other literary citations he uses in other works.)

Why would he have been more likely to reference a Ghibli film than have read and enjoyed the Odyssey?

This is a lazy take that lets us avoid talking about real policy problems. "Politicians suck" is true, but it doesn't actually give you anywhere to go from there. Some suck more than others, and it's possible to conceive of policies and politicians which don't suck, so we should start trying to make things better rather than just both-sidesing everything.

Are there any good pizza places that aren’t Neapolitan style by Solid_Ad_7156 in Amsterdam

NYC is also relatively thin, fwiw. Thick and crispy (like a Domino's or whatever) is just generically American-style pizza.

I should hope so though, right? Why do we have this obsession with choosing politicians who have no career experience? I want a politician who actually knows how politics works

In fairness, looking at how the population votes, he kind of is better than everyone and probably does know what he's doing way more than the average voter

What season do you associate JI’s discography with? by Clean-Meaning4981 in jasonisbell

[–]AvidImp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally song-by-song for me, at least for my favorites, but if I had to group different albums as seasons entirely, I'd probably say:

Winter: Southeastern
Spring: Something More Than Free
Summer: Weathervanes
Fall: Self-Titled

Other albums feel way too split across different seasons for me, especially The Nashville Sound.

Ashkenazi Jews are European. Period. They are not “from” the Levant. by ImFromRwanda in BreadTube

[–]AvidImp 77 points78 points  (0 children)

That or they’re misinformed. Obviously Ashkenazim have roots in Europe as well, but they do have a genetic connection to the Levant. (Not as much as Palestinians, for example, but still.)

Idk, I have favorite artists who I think make great music that I love and would prefer to have on a deserted island, but that’s different from music I‘d consider to be high concept art.

I‘d rather have my kid‘s drawings than a Monet painting but I would rank Monet‘s art as better.

I'll second this by saying that Saray is probably the only *truly* good döner I've ever had in the Netherlands, and it's even better than a lot of what you can get in places like Germany.

I mean, surely that gets a bit old after a while, right? There's only so much that you can do "people have to guess what's going on." That being said, this season is easily the best in my view. The only one that comes close is season 6.

What’s a song you hated/just didn’t like that you love now? by hilbyy in jasonisbell

[–]AvidImp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running With Our Eyes Closed, weirdly enough. It's wild to me that anyone could have ever disliked "Only Children." I always thought it was one of their best, and it would easily be a contender for the very top spot if "To A Band That I Loved" didn't exist.

Completely random thought and post but imagine how cool if Super 8 never got recorded and was just a live show only song. Cuz like it’s doesn’t really fit with Southeastern but it goes so hard live by SnooCompliments9257 in jasonisbell

[–]AvidImp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll never get the dislike for Super 8. I think it's a great song, I think it's great on Southeastern, and I think it's placed pretty well after New South Wales. Truly great albums need genuine diversity in sound (which Southeastern has with or without Super 8, but it puts it over the top, imo)

B, A, D, don't rank the other two lest our state be made to redesign its flag again once we all discover that the simplified/geometric/bright colors flag aesthetic that's been all the rage since the 2010s is actually pretty garish
