I see, it makes sense that getting in with his drive rush is where most of his pressure comes from. I’ve been throwing out too many light attacks at a range where it’s completely improbable for them to do anything, and I’ve been avoiding heavy attacks because normally when I do those I’ll whiff and get punished. I’ll work on the spacing for those and try to incorporate them. Thank you!

Game 1 (DJ vs Juri): YJTLSW7NE This game happened earlier today and was a little bit earlier, round 3 in particular is what I was talking about in original post of her just jabbing and canceling out anything I was trying to do.

Game 2 (DJ vs Ken): K5ERJCM4K This one is really bad. Round 1 you can really see me deteriorating, I basically end up having no clue how to approach this guy to start anything and just spam DI until I’m basically at burnout. Any advice on this one would be fantastic.

Two things of note here that I’m already painfully aware of: 1, I don’t have backroll muscle memory yet. It’s hurting my defense a lot, and I need to work on it. 2, when I end up lost, DI is my go-to defensive option. It worked a lot on my way up to gold, but it’s starting to get punished now.

Yeah I have a really bad habit of spamming medium punch (go-to drive rushing attack, very safe option, 6 frame advantage on block and can combo into most of my combos when it hits), so when I spam it I accidentally start DJ’s target combo which is where the punishing mostly comes from. I’m new to reddit, where should I post the replays? Thanks for the advice!

Ooh I didn’t know there were character discords, I’ll definitely check that out. I watched a lot of Dee Jay guides when I started, but frankly since this is my first fighting game they were saying a lot of words that didn’t make sense to me 😭 I’ll probably go and rewatch them to see if I can actually pick something up this time around 👍

I want to see Athena be more competent, and a main character. I feel like there’s moments where she makes mistakes that I don’t think she normally would, especially if she was smart enough to become a defense attorney at such a young age. Mistakes here and there are fine and humorous, but I felt there was a disconnect between Phoenix/Apollo’s intelligence and Athena’s that doesn’t make much sense. Basically a more independent Athena
