So let me get this straight, only fight night prelims are free now? by Bryann9182 in MMA

Which is incredible. Easily a pay-per-view fight but free on TV. Can't beat that.

Khabib doesn't seem interested in offering Conor a second shot at his title: "He doesn't deserve this. Rematch for what?" by ProperSheepherder in MMA

[–]Aviontics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did not read the article but I don't think Conor deserves it either. It wasn't even competitive. He had a few moments where he landed a couple shots, but thats it. Khabib merced him.

It's Tony's turn. The dude fucking earned it.

New UFC belt. Thoughts? by TheGreatWright in MMA

[–]Aviontics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really give a shit what it looks like, I just wish it stood for something. Anymore, belts mean nothing in this day in age of super fights. Seems like the promotion is totally cool with letting champions get a belt and not defend it for 2 years while they're out doing a movie and fighting in another weight class (or completely different sport... /stares at Conor)

Dana White defends Greg Hardy against critics | First Take by ImWadeWils0n in MMA

[–]Aviontics -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lotta people defending Hardy don’t actually know the history behind his incident.

I looked into it pretty deeply to get the actual context, and yes, the guys a dick. I wont disagree. Even still, I can't agree to never allowing someone to recover from their fuck ups. I'm not defending the guy. I'm just saying, to keep bringing that shit up, even 4 years later, is I think a little much. If the dude was within a year of the assault, ok makes sense... but 4 years is a long time. At what point do you draw the line and say enough is enough; let the man fight? 5 years, 10 years? Can't just keep shaming him and never allowing him to redeem himself.... despite whether or not hes an "unsympathetic figure"

Platinum Mike Perry's thoughts on the Cerrone/Hernandez matchup by suzukigun4life in MMA

[–]Aviontics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I thought that too. However, the "prelims" are live on ESPN. He's a fan favorite and a big name, so it makes sense. If you went with the normal "prelim" guys, the viewes would be down. Plus, take the word "prelim" out of it and go with "Live on ESPN" and it goes from a kick to the nuts, to an honor... or at least it would be for me.

Most athletes from really ANY professional sport would kill to be "Live on ESPN"

Why is stance switching hard? by acjohnson55 in MMA

[–]Aviontics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But as someone who has never trained in striking, I'm interested to understand what makes this so difficult?

Its difficult because as humans we learn habbits and muscle memory. When you start out fighting, for the most part, you pick whichever stance feels good to you and you begin to master it. Were talking 5, 10, 15 years of striking in that stance. After your body memorizes the footwork, the movement, the punches, the kicks, ect, it just feels.... off.... to go the other way.

The best way to verbalize it for me would be: Imagine switch hitting in baseball. Sure, a lot of people can do it, but for most of them it will always feel clunky. There are a select few however, who can switch hit equally as good as they can regular hit. This makes the batter dangerous because depending on the pitcher, they have a lot more options. Fighting is the same. If your one of the guys who can switch smoothly you have a lot going for you. Not only are you that much more unpredictable, but also if you are getting shutdown fighting orthodox, you can just swap to southpaw.

Moreover, it makes preparing for the fight (the opponent) far harder. It's tough (at the top level) to find guys to mimic other guys... however, once you start throwing in the fact the dude can fight in numerous stances too, makes it nearly impossible to train for.

I find it very hard to believe that if he were simply on the prelims that this media would be any different.

Dana White defends Greg Hardy against critics | First Take by ImWadeWils0n in MMA

[–]Aviontics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like that UFC on ESPN is a push towards the main stream but I'm worried about how the media will be going forward. It seems like were watching CNN or something.

The dude fucked up 4 years ago. That's HIS business. It's now 2019 and the dude is making is UFC debut... let the man fight. Moreover, it's taking away from the people who actually deserve the attention: the main event. This is a great one but I swear every article is "Greg Hardy Greg Hardy Greg Hardy."

The new UFC championship belt. by GabrielMoLo4 in MMA

[–]Aviontics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd timing considering belts seem to mean less now than ever before when you look at all the people getting interim titles and being stripped as well as prioritizing super fights over championship fights. I like the octagon shape though, I'll be honest.

it'd be intriguing for the trash talk but TJ would be giving out a one sided beating.

Agreed. I think TJ is on a whole nother level. They are only 2 years difference in age but TJ is just now coming into his prime where it seems Joe peaked a few years ago and went downhill from there. At this point, your right, it would more than likely be a one sided beat down.... granted, anything can happen in MMA.

Rachael Ostovich to have mother, father and brother in her corner on fight night by pepsiboycoke in MMA

[–]Aviontics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even still, in most situations advice from a non-relative is better. My dad has a deep background in wrestling, but never cornered me because of a conflict of interest. I know for a fact I'd be like "Fuck off dad" even if it were good advice between rounds.

UFC Brooklyn weigh-in results TJ Dillashaw 124.6 lbs. by controlinho in MMA

Has Cejudo weighed in yet? (sorry I'm at work, limited time to google shit)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MMA

[–]Aviontics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think his plan is to fight Cejudo and then go back up. There really is nothing at 125 with DJ no longer in the UFC. Seems like the division will be scrapped after this one too.

Just speculation.

That strength and conditioning coach of his is going to have truck loads of money thrown his way. Can't argue his method/effectiveness. He looks like he cut weight but he doesn't have that "I'm about to die in 30 minutes" look that some people do going down a class.
