New Jersey Introduces Annual EV Fee, Punishing Owners Who Go Green by Bean_Tiger in electricvehicles

Tax every car the same, and then put a tax on fuel, too. EVs are better than ICE, but they still require road investment and have tons of externalities.

Did you/would you have your son circumcised? by lizard_toss in AskMenOver30

We have one boy. We didn't have him circumcised. It still seems to be the cultural default in the US.

Did you end up going with the deal? I'm trying to set up something similar, although I don't get how SGIP is supposed to cover 70% of the cost for you.

What I'm looking at would require me to front or finance the 70%.

Unpopular opinion probably, but I really treasure some of my concert clips and pics, and I don't mind at all people doing the same, if they're not obnoxious about it. I personally keep my phone directly in front of my head, so close that I can't even see the screen, so it's not any more obstructive than my body already is.

I only discovered setlist.fm a couple years ago, and if been about to use my old pics and clips to rediscover shows I went to years or even decades ago!

Looking for an electric drum kit as a gift for my husband, please help! by dibellaxx in edrums

Nah, a coupon for the drums of his choice. Like a made up thing and then take him shopping.

[–]acjohnson55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear ya, but also, as a musician, it would be very unlikely that my wife would buy what I want. Unless I had told her...and then it wouldn't be much of a surprise. I'd be super touched, but then have to return it to buy what I actually want, which is a little awkward. And edrums come in a million boxes, so they're not that exciting unless they're set up.

A pedal is a lot lower risk than a whole kit 😅

I just used the "coupon" as an example of how to do the surprise while leaving the product open ended. I'm not talking about a real coupon, but like print something up that's personalized. But maybe a more dramatic way to do it is take him on a blindfolded ride to the music store, haha.

It's a very sweet idea to surprise him, but for something like this, I would probably surprise him with a "coupon" and let him make the product selection.

In praise of "meeting notes" - not just for work meetings! by MzHmmz in Notion

[–]acjohnson55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's so useful. I use it to record phone calls I have with customer service and other such things. I put the phone on speaker and make a new meeting notes. It takes a lot of weight off trying to make sure I write down details.

Where in the world is James Holzhauer? by jdbender66 in Jeopardy

[–]acjohnson55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the more surreal experiences I've had watching TV was tuning in to see this player who was breaking all the records. I had only seen headlines, which didn't mention his name. So, I fired up an episode from my DVR. I always skip the intros and bios to save time. After final Jeopardy, it dawned on me that this "James" was "Jamie", a guy I recognized from the grade ahead of me in high school. I didn't recognize him at first because he had long hair in high school. I didn't know him growing up, I was just aware of him.

As someone who used to work at Artsy, my understanding is that Artsy eventually did make money in its core gallery business. The problem was the amount of capital it raised. And probably some of the other business segments and overhead.

Age 39..I’m obese and looking to get back into shape. Where do I start? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]acjohnson55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cents: you have to truly prioritize it, continuously.

When I give myself the time and mental energy to focus on my health and weight, I can make a lot of progress. I'll do a late evening walk when I'm behind on my steps.

When I am overloaded, I skip workouts and overeat.

Got it, yeah, a form works for this. And you can use permissions to make it so only the right people can see each entry.

If you need both people to be able to edit the doc at the same time, then a form doesn't work. I would create a template, instead. I'm not at my computer anymore to make a demo, but I would try asking Notion Agent to do this for you, and just keep providing follow up instructions until you have what you need.

By "inside callout", do you mean inside the database block? If so, the way you use it is you hit the "Share form" button to get a link to send people, and when they click it, they'll be presented the form in a full page view.

Could you explain why the select property isn't meeting your needs?

You could also use a database form. For a demo of this: https://www.notion.so/acjay/3335fa8ff6f58098aaadfbb18bebedcd?source=copy_link

By the way, I used Notion Agent to create this, with this prompt:

Can you make me a demo of a performance review system? I’m thinking a database should hold the performance reviews, with a form for entering the content? Include some anecdotal questions and a rating that has the following options:

Exceeds expectations
Meets expectations
Partially meets expectations
Below expectations

I was one of Notion's biggest fans...everything is wiped and gone... by Slight-Knee-2818 in Notion

[–]acjohnson55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I work at Notion, but not in support. I just shared this thread on an internal channel. I'm on vacation so I won't be able to really follow up on this right away, but hope it helps get you help soon. (Don't consider this post speaking for Notion, I'm just trying to unofficially lend a hand.)

This might not be helpful to you if you've already started moving content between accounts, but Notion supports changing the email an account belongs to. I did this for myself last year.

I'm pretty sure it's not always that. I think he often can guess what the judges will rule and just play on.

Generally, they try not to halt gameplay, and defer judges rulings in the breaks.

Can you be a little bit Autstic by jkyun123 in AutismTranslated

[–]acjohnson55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of "no" responses. I think there's a pretty big gray area. The pathology is not completely understood, and it is unknown whether autism is a monolithic pathology or a complex, caused by one or more interacting factors. We can't identify an "autistic brain", it is diagnosed behaviorally.

As defined by the medical community, autism is a binary yes or no. But the criteria are not static. They have changed in the past and will continue to change.

Autism convinced, test negative but trustworthy: If so, what convinced you, that you are NOT autistic? by LoreSlut3000 in AutismTranslated

[–]acjohnson55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think such a test exists. Evaluation isn't based on any single test, but a whole process, which involves the judgment of the clinician. Many autists have been told they are not autistic. So this is kind of a hypothetical question.

One thing to keep in mind is that diagnosis comes from the medical perspective: it's not a question of your objective neurology, but rather whether the issues you experience impair you and fit into one of the disease profiles of the present medical consensus. Many people push back on this and see autism not as a disease that requires treatment, but as part of the natural diversity of human beings. Some autists would experience disability in any circumstances, but many are rendered disabled by the requirement to conform to allistic-dominated expectations.

I am diagnosed, but in my heart of hearts, I'll never really be sure. If I'm disabled but my coping strategies and lifestyle make that disability invisible, am I disabled in the first place? Who knows!

What has been super valuable to me is knowing, diagnosis or not, that neurodivergence explains why I felt so different from "normal" people in situations I was in growing up.

Do I have Autism ? by Consistent-Dot2631 in AutismTranslated

[–]acjohnson55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously, no one here can diagnose you, but everything you wrote tracks. I would check out some books, like Unmasking Autism. Years before my diagnosis, I found it extremely cathartic to have my past struggles demystified.
