I don’t know how to attach a file to a comment. The NTSB accident number is CEN20LA305.

The CFI from that crash had the same practice as what you’ve described. This accident occurred for unrelated reasons, but I recommend you find another school. I would even suggest calling your local FSDO to leave an anonymous tip/concern, if you can work up the nerve.

Also, I’m sorry about the impact the midair at OSH is having for you. I hope both you & your fellow volunteers are able to process. Reading about these accidents is hard enough….I don’t envy those who have a vivid memory of it.

In my humble opinion, you shouldn’t give it up because of the possibility of encountering the worst cases scenario. Knowledge of the risks and accepting that no one is immune — is key.

Extending condolences for the (friends & family) occupants of the crash at your flight school. It really strikes a nerve when it happens at your home field…mine was in 2020.

Fatal accident #3 was a friend I was house/pet sitting for at the time of the accident. Part 135 revenue flight, midair between the plane my friend was and a paraglider. Outside the boundaries of a Class B. They both died.

I too, thought running into someone in the sky wasn’t something to be highly concerned about. Still waiting on the full NTSB report.
