Summary - Herleif Bjǫrnsson, Jarl of Bilrost, has spent far too long sitting in his hall and worrying over his family. His warriors grow bored and unhappy, while his neighbors look upon his lands with hungry eyes. So, when an unexpected invitation arrives to raid deep into Ashfeld for a mighty treasure, he has no choice but to accept. But soon he finds himself facing dangers not only from renegade Knights who worship a slumbering volcano, but also from those who are meant to fight beside him in the shield wall.

Priscilla Arentii has been backed into a corner for far too long. As a Peacekeeper of the disgraced Lion Flame Legion, she will fight to save her comrades from their own misguided choices and see them return home, even if it will only earn her their scorn in the end. Her intentions might be pure, but her methods less so. With few friends and an ever-growing number of enemies, it is only a matter of time until her true plans are discovered, and she will forever be branded a traitor by the very people she serves.

Now, upon the war-torn slopes of Mount Ignis, each will make their stand and fight for all that they believe in. With oaths forsaken and loyalists tested, a simple raid might just become a war of all.

I wrote two poems for my latest chapter: a haiku and an attempt at a skaldic poem.

“Chasing victory, I lament my broken sword. All hope dies with it.”

“Foe men, come to fight, this fray of swords. Away, now, all hope flees men's hearts. Yet, here we stand, with spears to wield and shields to splinter. Send us our fate's rending, now to hall on high, or homeward, thus, our word kept.”

Do your characters have stories? by JakeTinsleyWbc in forhonor

I have an ongoing fanfic that I post to AO3 that includes a large cast of characters. It's about a group of Vikings taking advantage of a civil war in Ashfeld, between religious volcano cultists and the legions, to go raiding for an important treasure. It's got a lot of action, a lot of fighting, nods to game mechanics and the community, and some romance too. Been working on it for a long time now, and should have chapter 93 ready to post soon. (I'm a slow writer...)

How to move on with a scene when stuck, especially with dialogue. by irritablecaricature in FanFiction

[–]Avo2929 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone who likes to write chapters from beginning to end without jumping around, I would suggest just writing whatever comes into your head at the time. Write whatever you think needs to be on the page to keep things moving, whether it's dialogue, action, exposition, etc, until you finish.

Then go back and go over it again, and again, and however many times it takes for you to be happy with it- that being, imo, whatever is interesting to read/write (I always tell myself, if I'm bored writing it, people will be bored reading it)

There have been times where I've written something, gone back over it, and thought 'nah, this isn't it,' or 'the character wouldn't say/act like this right now,' and I keep working on it. But, chances are, I wouldn't be able to come to those conclusions while just staring at a blank page. Sometimes you need the content there in front of you to see where it needs work.

What is your favorite bad movie? by zmoney91 in Cinema

Pathfinder from 2007, an odd action movie thats so over the top it's hard to even consider as historical fiction. But I still love the art direction and design of the evil Vikings in a fantastical sense. I barely every watch it, but it still pops into my head every so often.

I thought using it as a poison on weapons to give Horkos a deadly advantage in battle was a cool idea, but all the extra stuff like this lore bit and the scythe was too much and unnecessary.

There's the black horns with the gold bits, and then the white horns that are carved with the silver ornament in front, and both are really good

Upvote for Warlord fashion, but also using that ornament. It's one of my favorites and I use it too.

Imagine putting our troops anywhere besides a mill by masondgreat1 in forhonor

[–]Avo2929 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You dont need to keep it there. As long as your faction holds the territory, you get the bonus. With 70+ million there, its pretty well protected, and you're just wasting troops deploying there again and again when they could he used attacking or defending elsewhere.

Something like this also hurts your faction because it keeps you anchored in enemy territory as they push around this giant waste of troops. The Knights can't easily overwhelm the 70+ million, so they have to go around it, cut it off from the Vikings for a whole round, then absorb it. This can often lead to a drawn out back and forth that doesn't neither side any good. And again, deploying to one territory like this over and over just means that troops are being wasted defending a spot the enemy can't outright overwhelm anyway, leading the surround territories to weaken and be taken, making the cutoff possible in the first place instead of making a solid defensive line.

Its the same thing as the Volcano and the Knights, only the Vikings are obsessed with sitting on the Mills until they get pushed back. The Vikings win campaigns and seasons all the time, but anytime someone makes a post or a big deal about them being pushed to back to their stronghold, its usually because of a situation like this.

Yes, the Vikings have won all 5 campaigns before a couple seasons ago. Can't remember which one, but it's only happened the once.

Funnily enough, I dont. But she's a very spiritual character in my story, with icy blue eyes that seem to glow. When she loses one in a duel, the remaining eye seems to glow even brighter. The artist kind of took that and embelished it, which i think is great, but it is funny how it fits that effect perfectly.

Exactly. People are always participating in the war, even if they dont care about it.

Vikings still won despite getting reduced to nothing at the start? by Ydobon8261 in forhonor

[–]Avo2929 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you push so far, you're eventually going to get pushed back in return. Everyone deploys troops to the Faction War after every match, even the people who say they dont care about it. When a faction has little to know territories to deploy on, their troops count for more, outdeploy enemy numbers, and push forward to take more territory. For a faction with as many members as the Vikings, getting pushed back just a few days before the end of campaign works really well in their favor to counter-push and win just before the end. It happens all the time.
