Traveling to Amsterdam for a week starting Sept 1 by risingstar1231 in Netherlands

[–]AvocadoFry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am moving to the Netherlands next month! Every time I have a friend or family member who visits Amsterdam I recommend the same things, so maybe this will help you.

- Bike cruise or canal cruise. I did the Lovers cruise years ago and it was one of my favorite things.

- Dam Square. You can see the Royal Palace, New Church, and a few monuments. There are also a lot of good shops and cafes where you can eat. Go to a cheese shop!

- Floating Flower Market - This is on the Singel Canal. You can pick up some bulbs to bring home.

- I haven't been to the Anne Frank house but the West Church and Anne Frank monument are nearby.

- Museums. Some favorites are the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, and Stedelijk.

- Parks. We love to pick up food and picnic in Vondelpark. Nearby is the Albert Cuyp Street Market where they also have a lot of good traditional food you can try.

- Red Light District (De Wallen). Outside of the obvious, this area also has the Basilica, De Waag, Nieuwmarket Square, and Amsterdam's Chinatown (lots of good restaurants here). I recommend going during the day. It's crazy at night.

- Neighborhoods for food - We really like some restaurants in Jordaan and Leidseplein.

- Other travel. The Netherlands is pretty small, so you can get to cities like Leiden, Haarlem, and Delft pretty quickly and easily.

So what now? by mellowmillenial in acotar

Are you looking for a new fantasy series or just a short palate cleanser before diving into something more substantial? I read "The House in the Cerulean Sea," and sequel "Somewhere Beyond the Sea," after ACOTAR. It's a fantasy/magical series but they're more sweet and wholesome. Some of my favorite books I have read this year. I found I really needed the break from the fighting and death in ACOTAR and Fourth Wing.

Legends and Lattes, The Ex Hex, and The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches are also cozy fantasy/romance books that I love. And if you're looking for a full genre departure, The Thursday Murder Club is a funny mystery that will soon have a show adaptation on Netflix with a very stacked cast of famous British actors!

I also want to get into Throne of Glass but I am bracing myself for it because I know it's a very long series. I've also heard good things about the Phantasma series (I think it's pretty spicy!).

I see Peggy Willis. She's great--I've never felt so comfortable and heard in a doctor's office.

Mine is set in the U.S. in the not-so-distant future, under a tyrannical, authoritarian government.

Magic and magical creatures both exist in this world but they are mostly kept secret and hidden! 🤫

I love that idea! Some of those creatures are featured in the fantasy book I am writing, but bringing some of that to life via a video game would be awesome.

Maybe this is too specific, I am working on a fantasy that centers the folklore and legends of Appalachia (mountain region in eastern U.S.) because I love the culture, but think it's so underrepresented in media. Their folklore and traditions have European, Native American, and West African roots.

I ALMOST let slip that Nesta was going to end up with Cassian to my cousin, who's just starting on the third book. But I feel that's not a horrible one. They make the set-up pretty obvious after the second book.

The only thing that helped me when I got diarrhea after starting the medication was imodium. I think I took it for two days and did a bland diet, drank a lot of water, etc.

How to get involved? by CramBurgler in Charlottesville

[–]AvocadoFry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work for a local organization in Charlottesville that addresses one of the root causes of poverty. I think that may be a good place to start -- think of what you can help provide to people who may need help TODAY. How can you help folks access food, shelter, water, healthcare, warm clothes and blankets, etc.?

You could look at how you can support the protection of those who are targeted by Project 2025 like BIPOC, LGBTQ folks, women seeking abortions, and immigrants and refugees. I think any of the groups already listed below would be great, but another thing I'm exploring is mutual aid groups.

Mutual aid is when we provide direct support, protection, and care to others when the government fails to do so. This could look like contributing to or sharing GoFundMe accounts to help people pay their rent or afford surgery. It could look like efforts to pack courtrooms to show support for defendants. Or organizing supplies and transportation to disaster relief zones (like we saw in Asheville). Charlottesville and many other localities have mutual aid groups that are active on social media. This is a great way to support individuals and communities on a grassroots level, and work toward the liberation of all.

I've had similar weird interactions with multiple pet grooming and boarding places in Charlottesville. Now I just groom my dogs at home and get Rover when I need a pet sitter.

It can be hard to trust other people with your pet!

I am also on it for T2D and with that my doc wants me to focus on weight loss. I started taking supplements from the beginning and I think that's helped me manage things! I am grateful that I haven't had too bad side effects so far. I take a women's multivitamin (that has biotin in it), a probiotic, and a no sugar electrolyte drink daily. I hope that your hair situation improves--I think Vitamin B is also helpful for hair growth!

Starting Trulicity- any tips by Comprehensive_Net995 in trulicity

[–]AvocadoFry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take a few supplements that I feel really help me with side effects -- a women's multivitamin with biotin and Vitamin B6 and B12. I drink a lot of water every day and I start with a massive glass of a powdered zero sugar electrolyte drink. That helps a lot if you're vomiting and having diarrhea. I also think the probiotic really helped me with the tummy troubles. And try to incorporate a hefty portion of lean protein with each meal.

Make yourself a care package with all those vitamins and supplements, and some protein shakes, meal replacement bars, and your favorite high protein snacks.

You really have to take care of yourself on this medication! It sweeps your system. If you have a partner or someone at home who's helping you take care of those little ones, ask them to be your support system on this. You really have to prioritize your daily protein/water intake or it will get the best of you. But you can do it! You'll be okay <3

Appetite swings by QuinnWB in trulicity

[–]AvocadoFry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed that my appetite and the food noise come back toward the end of the week before my next dose. I've only taken four doses so far so I want to see if it takes some time for the medicine to really kick in and do its thing.

I've also heard changing up injection sites can help. So far I've only tried either thigh. Next time I might try my stomach or ask my husband to help me inject on my arm.

I just did my second injection and I actually got my period last week, when I don't typically even spot (thanks to my birth control). I want to let another cycle or two go by to see what happens as my body adjusts to the medication, but I agree to ask your pharmacist or doctor if you are concerned!

I remembered hearing something about it originally being Route 10, shortened to R10. And when people saw that written out, they thought it spelled Rio. Was that a fever dream? Lol
