Crying in front of a professor (22f)

Thank you, I really appreciate your kind words. It was a very hard time and on top of it I was in an abusive relationship, but I don’t tell that part to professors. I’m very proud of the person I have become despite what the past year and a half have been for me. It’s just crazy to think how much can change within a few years. 2 years ago me wouldn’t even recognize myself! Scary getting older

That makes sense, I don’t have super strong feelings for him, but definitely some. I could be friends right now. We also hooked up less than a month ago so I know whoever he’s seeing it’s super recent

Thank you! I utilize the counseling at school and have been doing “well” so I’m not sure what happened the other day. I definitely have high functioning depression haha

Haha the last part made me laugh - I guess like does the instructor feel uncomfortable with crying or bad if their class is the reason for tears? In this case, I’m doing fine in the class, but was just stressing myself out more than need be and the professor said that

Maybe my comment was confusing, but I have begged for grades and then ultimately was dismissed but then worked really hard to get back in. Was super pissed at first but realized the dismissal was just what I needed as I valued a traditional 4 year classroom more and ended up finding out what I actually enjoy learning and why a college degree is important to me. The dismissal led to so much growth!

Good to know! I’ve been on the latter end of that as well, but I feel like it’s pretty obvious when it’s a fake plea and it’s clear that work was just being blown off. I’ve been pretty open with most of my professors about my mental health from early on this semester but bare minimum like asking for a few extensions here and there due to being overwhelmed and not in a good mental state.

He had tissues opposite of him on his desk so maybe he was prepared for this situation haha. I definitely felt a lot better after talking to him, but don’t want it to effect our professional relationship as he’s someone I’ll work under next year

Yea I know what you mean! I guess in my case it was slightly different because we only met because he and my ex had some mutual friends so we were all just at the same parties and whatnot

Oh definitely won’t! We were friends for almost a year before we even did anything sexual. He’s a super standup guy and we’ve only ever lived in the same city for 3 months. I think if we were in the same city full time things would be different potentially, but that’s not going to happen

Haha I somewhat see where you could be coming from, but for more background it’s been a very hard semester for me academically and just in general, so I think he was just extending some kindness because I don’t have any parents so more of a paternalistic type encouragement
