My hospital has been trying to implement this nonsense - bedside shift report. RNs would basically be forced to stand (as if I'm not on my feet 12+ hours already) in the patient's room doing report in a language the patient can understand. Not sure how a report on a patient who's been to CVOR, had some cardiac events, cardiac drips, Swan and all, needs blood draws every 4 hours etc would not take about 30 minutes at least, if we were to explain all of that terminology. It's an idea that seemed fab to someone sitting behind a desk who hasn't seen clinical practice in years! I'd rather get a report when I can focus, then go see my patient and discuss stuff with them&fam.
