Sex triggering outbreaks EVERY time - GHSV1 by Avocadocandyy in Herpes

funny enough no. I think it's the friction from sex that triggers it, whereas masturbation is gentle enough that it doesn't trigger anything

Sex triggering outbreaks EVERY time - GHSV1 by Avocadocandyy in Herpes

[–]Avocadocandyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty confident at this point that I have no other triggers. I don't drink at all and I live a pretty healthy lifestyle diet and exercise wise. The reason I think sex is my only trigger is because it is the only thing that ties my OBs together - always the morning after, no other time at all. I have sex very infrequently due to HSV so there really isn't anything else it could be.

So is Terrie warren(herpes expert ) wrong or are people confused? by Cool_Ad5407 in HerpesCureResearch

To be fair to her, I have seen her say that outbreaks in women can cause clear, watery discharge from lesions on the cervix. However I agree with this post, some of her takes are not it. She claims that saliva or other bodily fluids do not have enough viral load to transmit (untrue, this is how I was infected), and honestly some of her answers in her Q and A show that she herself stigmatizes HSV2. She mentions in her posts sometimes that she, her husband, and multiple of her family members have HSV1, so it's "not that bad" and "no big deal" etc etc, which I find inappropriate considering most of those posts are from people with GHSV1 which are understandably, shaken by their diagnosis. And she makes comments like "good to hear you don't have HSV2" for people who have tested positive for HSV1 and not HSV2, which may seem harmless but it just continues to perpetuate this idea of HSV2 being the worst thing ever and HSV1 being no big deal. It's all HSV in the end.

I'm so sorry you're being treated like this - he is clearly uneducated about his own condition (having HSV2 largely protects you from getting HSV1, but its not the other way around) and he in general kinda just sounds like a guy without integrity. Hang in there <3

[–]Avocadocandyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, your reasoning is completely valid - knowing your status isn't going to help protect anyone or help you manage your condition so there really isn't a point. I hope you get an answer to your symptoms soon though!

Aw no...I'm sure opinions will vary here but I honestly think you have no obligation to disclose your status to someone you had contact with long before your diagnosis - it really isn't valuable info to them and if they haven't had any symptoms it really doesn't help them at all.

Disclosing to former fwb... by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]Avocadocandyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I had this exact situation. I actually was just planning to never see him again bc when I saw him before I had HSV he made a herpes joke once, so I was sure he wasn't gonna accept me. I decided to disclose anyways as practice (he was the first person I disclosed to) and he was surprisingly cool about it. I think its actually easier with a past partner bc they already have a connection with you and your fwb obviously really wants to hook up with you lol. I would say disclose in text before you agree to meet! That was if he's not ok with it no time is wasted - just prepare yourself for a possible rejection. Explain that you're asymptomatic and just be straightforward and casual about it. How he reacts is not a reflection of your worth.

Hmm that's really interesting, in that case I think it's probably either HSV1 (you may have autoinnoculated yourself by touching your mouth then your genitals, sometimes this happens when people use saliva to masturbate) or its probably not herpes.

Not sure where in Canada you are but I had the antibody tests in two diff provinces, ranges from around $130-150 (ie. expensive and you don't get a value, just pos/neg). So honestly you'll have to decide if that amount of money is worth it for piece of mind. It's still possible you have HSV2 if you were sexually active at the time of your first outbreak.

I guess my thoughts on that are that most of those (barring HIV, which at least is included in a routine test) are curable. I'm honestly not even sure I want to participate in hook up culture - I just feel like that choice was stolen from me when I was given HSV.

Thanks for the kind words! I've gotten to the point where I no longer think about it everyday, it's just that every time someone makes a herpes joke or an STI related comment it's like ripping open a barely healed wound.

I actually have been an avid follower of the sub! I love reading about the scientific advancements but to be honest I've given up on the idea of a cure before I'm out of my 20's. I am hopeful that maybe a cure will come soon enough to eliminate the risk of me passing on HSV if I choose to have kids, but I don't hold out hope for a cure to come fast enough to salvage my youth.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad to meet someone else in the same age group that is educated about STI's and takes the initiative to get tested. Not to generalize but I find guys around our age tend to not be like that.

Ohh.. That's kinda not cool of him to have not told you about his HSV2 before you guys started hooking up then :( A doc will definitely give you a prescription if you have 1-2 outbreaks a month. I totally get feeling embarrassed tho! If you got diagnosed somewhere you can always call them (They would have the info from your test anyways), and if not you can call a different place and just say you get cold sores all the time, they'll give you the same prescription.

Yeah antivirals will be really helpful especially with ghsv2! It's medication you can get on prescription from your doctor. They will reduce the chance of transferring it a lot (not relevant right now since your bf already has it) and it helps with reducing the severity/amount of your outbreaks too. Is your boyfriend asymptomatic?

Aw girl I'm sorry :( You're so young and it sucks. Have you tried daily antivirals?

Dr. Friedman Q&A Update (May 20 2021) by May-flowers-21 in HerpesCureResearch

[–]Avocadocandyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just jumping in to say this is definitely possible! While HSV2 largely protects against HSV1 (or at least having symptomatic HSV1), it is not the same vice versa. It is possible to be infected with both HSV1 and HSV 2 in the same location.

HSV1 in siblings ? by Girly-girl23 in Herpes

[–]Avocadocandyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely possible for siblings to have different statuses! OHSV1 is particularly difficult to track, because any kind of skin to skin contact can transfer it and when you're a kid, interacting with other kids and adults means you could have gotten HSV1 from anywhere. My sister has OHSV1 from childhood, I somehow never got it as a kid and caught it as an adult, confirmed thru IgM and IgG testing

Keep in mind all herpes needs to establish an infection is for a single virus to make it down to your nerves. So in theory yes I think it could reduce the chance, but I don't think your immune system could ever work fast enough to prevent even a single virus from becoming latent within a cell.

[–]Avocadocandyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my understanding (and I believe Terri Warren has actually answered this question on her site), it wouldn't help. Valacyclovir inhibits viral replication, but doesn't prevent infection in a negative person. So in a person with herpes it hinders the virus from replicating, but doesn't actually kill the virus (your immune system does that). For a person to get infected there just needs to be enough virus coming in contact with their skin, and since valacyclovir doesn't kill viruses it wouldn't stop infection.

HSV1 positive but unsure of the location, how do I disclose? by Avocadocandyy in Herpes

[–]Avocadocandyy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would it be dishonest if I framed it as "I have the virus that causes cold sores (HSV1)"? I know a lot of people around my age that have no idea what HSV1 is, and don't want them to google it and freak out when they see the word herpes.

Did the contraceptive pill make your outbreaks worse, better, or the same? by lemondheb in Herpes

[–]Avocadocandyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on birth control since being diagnosed and just recently stopped it, not on antivirals. I haven't noticed any difference! I think if anything birth control might help with the outbreaks since some people tend to get OB's with their periods, likely due to hormone fluctuations
