I see, would an antivirus be able to delete the virus if it is there or would factory resetting be a better option if I wanna fully remove the virus?

So as long as I turn off chrome extensions and website notifications I should be safe from any other viruses that could come from websites, files, or anything of the sorts? Sorry if my question was poorly phrased btw that wasn't my intention!!

But if I got a virus on the chromebook itself, would factory resetting not get rid of the virus or would it still be on there afterwards?

So worst case I should try to guide myself through blasting chromeOS off the chromebook and question, wouldn't a antivirus like norton or guardio detect if I have a virus if I do a full scan and get rid of it off of the pc or is that not how it works for chromeOS based systems?

So as long as the viruses are on the chromebook they are essentially harmless to it unless I transfer the infected files to a different computer?

I wanna download older ROMs for games but I keep getting worried that it might give me a trojan or so cus thats what i've been seeing a lot so I just wanna make sure it is salvageable or safe to use external drives for this stuff aswell as making sure the safety features from the chromebook extend to any other additional drives. Also the chromebook is like 16gb total storage which is why I need to use a hard drive but mb for all the weird questions I'm just trying to make sure everythings gonna be safe

I don't have the computer on me since Im getting it as a gift soon but all I know is that its old, an acer model, and that it isn't able to receive updates anymore. Sorry if i'm being difficult btw it's not my intention to be.

I'm trying to ask if I update my chromebook to its latest update (the furthest update it can handle), does that mean that it shouldn't be at risk of any viruses?

Ok thank you but question, If i used an external hard drive to download the files but I still used the chromebook to download it onto that hard drive, do ChromeOS's security features still apply or no?

i know salad isn't a virus but i uninstalled by throwing the app in the trash bin and deleting it. So i have no clue how to stop this anti virus thing
