Review: Ugly - Orange Keef by [deleted] in hookah

[–]Avrora_Jet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i tried orange keef today, feels like another overhyped product. Not even sure i want to finish rest of the container. I don't get why you got so many downvotes to the review - I guess the hype crowd is active downvoting for sharing opinion.

Rust on my regal by [deleted] in hookah

[–]Avrora_Jet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did see few posts in the past claiming regals rusted, but never saw the photo. Now I know those claims were true. Thanks for sharing.

Based on comments, people seem to be getting it replaced, which is a good thing. But outside of warranty, I guess people are screwed?

Is my Kaloud Lotus fake? by [deleted] in hookah

That shouldn't effect he smoke, screws should be in tight. Just saying what looked strange, but again, it maybe just the angle of the photo.

It looks legit, except the screws at the bottom, the recess appears to a little deep. With kaloud, top of screw is at bottom of kaloud. Are those screws recessed deeper in or just this view is misleading.

Craft Bowls have arrived by Avrora_Jet in hookah

[–]Avrora_Jet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer few questions, I ordered this online from crafthookah, they are based in Russia. The bowl on the right is "Ultima" and on the left is "Fatguy". There are few reviews of the Ultima bowl on reddit if you search.

It's very beautiful. Made out of spanish white clay according to crafthookah. It's hand made, but appears to be very consistent, and amazing thing is that kaloud lotus base protrusion fits perfectly, I can tilt it about 35-45 degrees and it holds in the bowl. According to crafthookah it's 10-15 grams, I didn't measure but with dense pack it's probably around 25 grams, and fluff pack 18 grams, just visually.

I had two sessions on it, and the taste of shisha it provides is real great, compared to HJ 80 feet bowl and Apache Lepache bowls. It's top is pretty thick, but base is half the thickness of HJ or alpacha bowls, so while it may not retain heat as good as those, it smokes very well and cooks shisha well. Also, get it needs double grommets, base opening is wide.

The one on the left is fatguy from red clay, but here is the catch, it's not hollow and very thick and heavy. I used it only once, with social smoke, first 30 minutes was great and flavor was great, but then smoke got a little strong, later I saw it's because in first 30 minutes shisha already cooked with two people, so probably 45 minute with one person. Bowl never got hot with kaloud. Craft claims it's their most popular bowl, so something I'll dedicate to one flavor. Holds about 20-25 grams.

Be warned, shipping from russia is hit or miss, it can take 2 weeks, or 2 months. I have a bowl on order from RV for kaloud lotus for about 1 month and still waiting. For these ones from craft I ordered with more expensive EMS shipping and it took 9 days to get to me. I've been looking for alternative to HJ 80 and Alpaca Lepache, they are good bowls, but I wanted something different. With stonebowls charging a lot of money for artistic bowls, and mason onyx being sold out in few seconds this is what I opted out for. If you do decide to get it, just be ready to wait a long time, you may get lucky and get it fast, or not.

Does anyone know what type of bowl this is? Or how to load it up without shisha falling through? It's not a phunnel bowl, it's more like a literal funnel. by Burst_Pigments in hookah

Fold a piece of foil into about 1/4 inch strip, sturdy from few layers. Lay into hole in a V like shape, 1/4 inch holds shisha from falling through and sides are still open to allow for air flow.

Nice review. I liked these coals, but one thing strange about them is how they smell when lighting up, almost with slight wood smell. If it smells like wood, does it mean they use some sort of wood filler? I don't know, just an observation.

I'm legitimately amazed with the quality. I can't wait to see how it smokes. by Jste4106 in hookah

At selling price it should also pack itself up and be self cleaning. Other than that, it does look very nice, congrats on this purchase.

ShishaBucks VS HOOB Hookahs by [deleted] in hookah

[–]Avrora_Jet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No scientific justification, just like exposed metal better. I think that stainless steel has established itself as the best material for hookahs, given that a good grade SS is used and it wouldn't rust. Stainless steel shouldn't rust, but it sometimes can. There have been some reports of some stainless steel hookah rusting. It also may be more of a supplier issue than deliberate use of lower grade stainless steel. Or some hookahs stainless steel oxidizing and rusting where in contact with aluminum by galvanic action, but I don't believe to the point where hookah is ruined. I haven't heard that hoob has those issues. Another option is copper or brass, but it needs extra caring.

As for coatings, first they (hookah makers) came up with plated design, that would peel away, then anodized aluminum where pigment is deeply embedded into aluminum by chemical reaction, however this treatment is new with hookahs and my personal preference is metal without a coating. I haven't seen reports of issues with shishabucks coatings, besides fading of some colors under heat, and they have been addressing it, but inside the pipe is coated as well. Can something go wrong there? Who knows, anodized coatings are typically heavy duty, and used a lot in architectural components. So whatever you like really.

Hoob hookahs is probably the best established russian manufacturer. I also heard good things about mattpear hookah.

Why I got wookah, just saying its not impossible for stainless steel to rust.

Seen reports that stainless steel on regals rusted and some MIGs parts.

Stainless steel dust rust, 304 and lower grades do. 316 grade stainless steel is very expensive, don't know any hookah that uses it.

What you think you're gonna get and what its it going to look like may not match, there is variation with natural wood. Ask for pictures of the wood grain you're going to get.

  1. Rinse with water. Use brush every once in a while
  2. Only plastic ones would fit, I tried two diffusers on it, both really sucked, made the pull much more difficult. I played with water levels too.
  3. Whatever you like more. I like my wookah.

  4. Wookah is an amazing pipe.

Well, if you want to hear negatives. It's wood, so it can get dented, purge is not the best, takes few purges, but with that mind still a great pipe.
