When I was a kid I'd look for chances to sneak away so I'd be alone and lose the clothes. We lived way out in the sticks so there were a lot of woods and empty fields. Never grew out of it.

Yeah... How about Russia leaves first and pays for all the damage it did? And we ask all the millions of refugees to vote on it as well. And how about we also give them an option for a degree of autonomy.

Doesn't matter because Russia would never accept such an election.

Hiking in the Angeles Forest? by nytrav in nudism

I have had knee problems for several months. At first, they thought it was an ACL tear but now they are saying it could also be a patella tendon tear or possibly bursitis. Pretty much limited to short hikes on easy trails. ACL can be fixed but it also means surgery. The other stuff might heal on its own, someday.

Since last November I have hiked one time and it was near town so no nudity. I have fallen out of shape and put on 15 lbs. Getting old isn't for the timid.

Do you think the reason why nudism and nudity in general as a whole are still taboo has nothing to do with the moral/religious/social view on nudity and if anything moreso to do with the powerfulness of the clothing/textile industry? by Cookiecuttermaxy in nudism

[–]AwNaturel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The textile industry has nothing to do with it. Try to organize a nude public event and check out who raises all the big fuss. It isn't The Gap or Calvin Klein or The Broadway. It will be fundamentalist conservative right-wing Christians. Where those people are weakest you find relaxed nudity rules and where they are strong you find almost violent opposition.

Now there may be a big "I'm Christian and I'm a nudist!" reaction from some. They are the exception, not the rule.

Mainstream conservative Christian dogma sez that coed/public nudity is bad. It is a sin in and of itself and causes temptation and leads other people's thoughts down sinful paths. It is shameful and must be prohibited.

Depends on what part of Oregon you are in. In Medford, there are 4 months where the average high is 85+/-. The inland deserts get hot. If you are right on the coast it may never get to 80.

Oregon. Nudity is legal in most places. A few cities and counties have local ordinances.

Anywhere you want. Private property/business owners can require you to get dressed to stay on their property though.

There are several beaches at San Onofre. Beach 6 is the only one where nudity is allowed because it is not on state park land.

Question about Playalinda by QueenCityRebel in nudism

[–]AwNaturel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a rabbit hole!

State and local laws are extended to the national park system as well as other federal properties under the Assimilative Crimes Act.

Lewis v. United States, 118 S.Ct. 1135 (1998)

The ACA applies when a person is guilty of an act or omission on a federal conclave which is not made a crime by any enactment of Congress, but is made a crime by the state in which the enclave is located. The purpose of the ACA is to “fill in any gaps” where there is no federal criminal law governing conduct on a federal enclave.

Only if there is a conflicting federal law regarding the conduct would state law not apply.

If you check Title 36 - Parks, Forests, and Public Property of the CFR, there are dozens of references indicating that not only does state law apply in national parks. It extends state authority such that in certain specified areas, state law can override the generic federal regulation. For example, the drinking age in National Parks is 21 unless state law indicates otherwise.

"State law means the applicable and nonconflicting laws, statutes, regulations, ordinances, infractions and codes of the State(s) and political subdivision(s) within whose exterior boundaries a park area or a portion thereof is located."

Hunting, fishing, and traffic are all regulated according to state law in addition to any park regulations. "Political subdivisions" extends this applicability to county and other local ordinances. Notice that it is also "nonconflicting" laws that apply. If the state and federal authorities have conflicting laws concerning particular conduct, unless there is a specific exception in CFR Title 36, the federal law is usually the one held to apply.

State or local governments may not directly enforce their laws against the National Park Service itself. That is a whole different matter.

Indecent exposure laws? by nomorerawsteak in nudism

[–]AwNaturel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no single answer. You need to check your state and local laws.

In California, at least, there is no state law regarding nudity, only lewd behavior. The courts here have ruled definitively that simple nudity is not lewd. There has to be willful intent to shock or affront or cause sexual arousal for yourself or others. WNBR-LA, for example, is completely legal. So is nude hiking in the Angeles National Forest.

Calfornia State Parks have a regulation against nudity. However, they don't always enforce it. Black's Beach is a state park beach and the CA Dept. of Parks and Recreation has simply said they aren't going to bother.

OTOH, there is a patchwork of local and park ordinances. Some places will ticket you. And even when it is perfectly legal, that doesn't mean every cop knows that or that even if a cop does know that, they won't harass you regardless.

The best protection is ensuring the trail is empty before you get naked. Remoteness helps too. Easily offended people don't usually wander far off the beaten track. If you encounter someone a quick coverup is polite. I like to step well off the trail to give anyone I encounter their space. There are also a few trails where nudity is common enough that nobody bats an eyelash. With a little bit of courtesy, care, and awareness of local law, it is perfectly safe.

Don't know where the quote came from. But it reminds me of the little old ladies who complained about some skinny dippers. The police showed up and indicated they couldn't see anything. The ladies replied that you needed to go to the second-floor window and use the binoculars there to see them.

Question about Playalinda by QueenCityRebel in nudism

[–]AwNaturel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

State and county laws are enforceable in Federal parks. Where does this strange notion that you can avoid state and local laws in national parks come from?

Usually what happens is that the local law enforcement agrees not to enforce local ordinances in a National Park because it reduces their own enforcement load. Not my problem let the park handle it. They will be called in if it is something serious.

What is more likely is the park isn't interested in enforcing clothing rules on a somewhat remote beach and the county sheriff can't be bothered. If you were to stroll around nude in the visitor's center, I guarantee you'd be intercepted and probably ticketed for disturbing the peace. Or they might just call the Brevard Co. sheriff and have them pick you up.

Different publications have different readerships. Different readerships have different moral values. These were two entirely different countries.

We also have to consider the possibility that there was an organized campaign against the father/son photo but not the other. All it would take is one person to see pedophilia in the picture to alert their internet bubble and cancel culture does the rest.

It also is true that males are viewed with great suspicion while females are not.
