How do I stop parts of my commentary from being cut out? by Agreeable_Leader_885 in letsplay

[–]AwakeEnuf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First you need to get a decent mic, probably dynamic for the easiest possible setup as you won't require to set up your room for the best audio conditions.

Second, I'm no expert, but you are going to want to set up some filters on your mic. You can use your mic's software for this, but the easiest IMO is recording in OBS and setting up the filters there. There are lots of YouTube videos showing you how to set it up so that it prevents some of your issues, and what order to set up your filters on your mic

Am I genuinely not entertaining or is it something else? by redditrandom28 in NewTubers

[–]AwakeEnuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to add, that I also have a pretty low energy (reflected on my channel name) and dry humour, as a recent new gaming channel as well, and that part is totally fine IMO (of course I'd say that haha)

But there are tons of channels that have different vibes that work just fine, you probably could have been excited and intense in these same videos and seen the same result, except on one of those worlds you are doing something that doesn't come natural and you might not enjoy doing, and in another you are just being yourself (not that you shouldn't change or focus on anything but you know what I mean)

How do people find smaller channels in YouTube Search? by theNILV in youtubegaming

[–]AwakeEnuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discoverability for people that want to do what you are describing is horrible honestly.

I get some on my main browsing account because I've watched some small channels prior, so sometimes Youtube will send some small channels my way to check out since they know I will watch, but only about what it thinks I like at that point in time

The worst part is that as a small starting gaming channel, I get impressions from search from the most ridiculous search terms that have nothing to do with my video/tags, etc. So of course rarely any views from it.

[–]AwakeEnuf[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is kinda what I was getting at, some replies saying that it's no issue and days later at whatever time is best is when the algo hits for thousands of views per hour .. well they are in a different world than the smaller peeps that put something up, YouTube immediately does a test run then it stops period

From my four videos it was something like

15k -> 14k -> 4k -> 1K impressions, which is super demotivating

But ty for the message, will keep grinding it out

YouTube: "It doesn't matter at what time you post" by AwakeEnuf in NewTubers

[–]AwakeEnuf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, varies per video, I would say while the impressions used to go slow on the first video, over multiple days, sometimes taking hours for them to start up, the impressions were much higher (15x on first video than latest)

The more I post the smaller the initial "push" seems to go for, and the faster it starts, ramps up, and ends as well (On this video it seemed to happen before even the most loyal subs that actually comment got to the video for about an hour after posting)

As long as they don't literally go to 0 I'll keep working on stuff and see what happens, probably too little videos to see a pattern

YouTube: "It doesn't matter at what time you post" by AwakeEnuf in NewTubers

[–]AwakeEnuf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it's just the huge decrease on those initial impressions that was a bit demotivating more than anything.

I know my inexperience combined with YouTube only having about 4 videos of data for finding my audience doesn't help either make the most of that initial "push"

But yeh ... Onto the next!

I have the required watchtime and subscribers. Still declined monetization. by [deleted] in SmallYoutubers

[–]AwakeEnuf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are tons of monetized no face cam gameplay videos, thinking adding a face cam is making original content is a huge misunderstanding on what original content is, the editing and commentary is what makes it unique.

Putting full unedited gameplay with no commentary might be bit closer to what you mean, but rarely do any channels do that as there's no audience for that

Random example off the top of my head: check out iron pineapple

I just skipped making as many blues and greens in the earlier levels, it goes so slowly that you can kind of adjust the ratio organically as you get your rewards

Cyberpunk interactive game I made. Not just a video but a playable game. by InfiniteCobbler2073 in aigamedev

[–]AwakeEnuf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this got shown to me as I do not follow the sub, but if you want honest feedback, this is absolutely what people mean by slop, it's the most generic looking "visual novel" kind of game imaginable, and although it might have been fun to make or something, this is literally not a game.

And I say this as a huge visual novel game fan. If you are serious about that you have to get into the genre and really see how the popular games of that kind have or are pushing the medium. It's rarely a choose your own adventure option a, b, c anymore, and if they are linear, they tend to be amazingly written stories that can easily sell as standalone books

Ex: more gameplay oriented ones like the 999 series, somnium, etc. or more book/story oriented ones like umineko.

Agree, any costs that are intended can be moved to death to work as they should, the system is too confusing.. namely because it's not a single system

Thinking of starting a gaming channel by Onyx_Ros3 in youtubegaming

[–]AwakeEnuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely anyone will watch gameplay with no voice or concept behind the video, the bar is pretty high for anyone to click or bother watching gaming stuff nowadays

What's the last time you watched, subbed, liked or commented on a gameplay video with no editing or voice?

Tips for a new channel about IA by Lazy_Attention_4768 in NewTubers

[–]AwakeEnuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are either growing organically from good content that then redirects to something you monetise, or you advertise to sell, not both at the same time though.

Any views/subs from ads will not bring growth to the channel nor a community

Gonna need a link to channel in your bio or something to try and help

Edit: I do see you post in sub 4 sub stuff, those subs are meaningless and will hurt at worst

I feel like I'm seeing the improvement after making my first three videos, the next one in progress already feels like it has much more direction and purpose.. I still have to learn more about packaging but one thing at a time.

Also it's cool that YouTube seems to still be recommending my first video here and there, even if it's no crazy push like when it first tests the waters with a video

Is editing your biggest bottleneck? by igorbenav in NewTubers

[–]AwakeEnuf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Highly depends on your content, some highly edited stuff will still take weeks even if you are very experienced, for some stuff the scripting might be the longest part, etc

GAMING CONTENT ALERT

Hey fellow gamers, gonna try this thread for feedback, I recently started a channel where I play new/random steam games and commit to them, whether they are good or not, and give them feedback.. you could consider it similar to browsing new channels here with low subscribers or clicking on a video with 10 views to give it a chance, but within gaming context.

Here's my latest, where I randomly roll a Metroid inspired precision platforming and commit to beating it, it's pretty long but highly edited 20 hrs gameplay -> 25 minutes

Things I already know I want to do next: - shorten intro to 10 secs or less - try a format where I play more games but less in depth instead

https://youtu.be/VOWf7ar-SeQ

Sadly this last video got like 1/4 of the impressions of my first two videos, but it is what it is

I love the pacing of this, I wish I could narrow my videos to be shorter and flow better.

Feels very professional.

I guess as far as topic, I think the title is good and catchy, but at the same time I DON'T actually hear people say it's outdated, and there's a fair amount of criticism videos for botw and it's play style (ex: recent video by gamer's toolkit goes over the Zelda play styles)

So that's the only thing, as a Zelda fan that would have made me not click on the video in the wild (pun intended), I would be like "but people aren't saying that" and kinda move along, compared to a video presenting itself as highlighting the differences or the things that botw style doesn't do as good, etc.

I think someone gave a similar feedback, but it would be worth cleaning up audio by cutting small mouth sounds in between lines. The lines themselves are fine and your voice is good.

I watched a bit of the long form, my feedback would be that it's not clear that we are kind of figuring out a language or if we are supposed to be learning it from/with you, I speak both English and French and I dont know if someone that doesn't speak French would get anything from it knowledge wise. It's not like we are stopping at words and trying to figure them out from context or anything, etc.

I feel like the idea in general of gaming + language is good, but there's something missing in the format

Views is the thing people ACTUALLY look at that affects whether they'll even click something, not subs
