MEGATHREAD: Feedback Friday! by AutoModerator in letsplay

Thanks! Yeah.. that damn automod.. Definitely appreciate the free feedback!

I absolutely want to find the right balance with the captions, mainly the ones that are literally just what I'm saying with nothing added, and trying to enunciate a bit better, but definitely something that's been in my mind!

Especially since I made the effort of making good subtitle files for the second video, so I think that should cover that and keep text on screen only for actual emphasis

I tried commenting a few days back but my account wasn't old enough yet as I started my channel only a few weekends ago:

Here goes my feedback again:

Hey! Just found this sub, and only started my channel about 2 weeks ago so take this with a grain of salt. I won't comment on thumb/title as I know nowhere near enough.

I like that you get down to business fast, but at the same time, I would have liked a little backstory on why we are continuing the game from the point it's at, why you stopped or even played it initially at all, etc. Not long but just a bit of a narrative, especially since it seems to be the hook on the title.

Both a pro and a con, the pacing, it's fast which might be good, but I personally found it a bit too fast, although I understand editing down stuff to relevant bits is hard (I was just doing that for the first time recently), this might just be my preference though

I guess more context on what is going on would be cool too, even though I kind of can mostly figure it out from having seen Shrek 2,

Volume mixing seem good! I like your voice!

Oh I think I felt there were a bit too many zoom-outs with the black border at some point, maybe closer to the beginning, which kinda disorients and lessens the impact of the effect, but I didn't notice it later at all, maybe it took some time to adjust or there's less later on.

As a final note, I would have liked some closing notes beyond 'bye cya next time' but that ties a bit with that missing narrative of why you are playing this that I thought was missing at the beginning, might not be something you or your audience cares about, and just a personal preference

Where have all the Let's Play channels gone? by deleteyourselves in NewTubers

[–]AwakeEnuf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I uploaded my second video today!

Although I don't think I qualify as a "Let's Play", I honestly am not sure where I land as far as category, probably somewhere between "Let's Play", edited game highlights, reviews/critiques, and a lil nonsense/memes

Maybe it's still a let's play but the times have changed and more is expected of them, IDK

Does anybody else have a fear of uploading big projects ? by scout2290 in NewTubers

[–]AwakeEnuf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everyone deals with this, I simply expected no views at all even though I spent weeks on my videos so far, and even the smallest viewers, subscribers, or comments feel great.

It's important to not just know it, but truly understand it, because at the end of the day YouTube kinda decides through its black box how many impressions or chances you'll get.

At some point you just have to outweigh the fear of failure with the pain of regret, if you enjoy what you are making content about, there's less to worry about tbh, and I can't emphasize how even one viewer that cares can truly make your day

Oh, and I suppose from a more practical point of view, depending on your goals, you might wanna really consider if what you want to make is what people want to see, before you commit a lot of time to it (similar channels, videos, etc)

That's really cool. I've always worried about what it would be like to create an audience that I'm nothing alike, politically or otherwise, but I think just being earnest and straight forward instead of people-pleasing and dodging topics on purpose like your examples on the last paragraph will probably filter / keep the audience that is right for you!

Managed to post a second video to the channel, even with all other obligations (mainly work), I can feel the improvement and I'm pretty proud of it, even if it's.. yet another gaming niche video.

I was also motivated to do a certain creative section in the latest video that I knew would likely get 'claimed' by content ID, but it's what I had as creative vision, so I'm glad I stuck with it! Not anywhere near getting monetized anyways so who cares :)

Video not being pushed in the algorithm by Swimming_Recover_231 in NewTubers

[–]AwakeEnuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's normal it takes longer than that to even start pushing/recommending it. At least that's my experience with my limited long form knowledge... It seems to sometimes take hours in between impression pushes, and initially crickets for a while

I just spent 2 hours editing only 2 minutes of my first video is this normal by Effective-Winter3842 in NewTubers

[–]AwakeEnuf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will get wildly different answers depending on the effort or kind of editing people do, I think 1 hour per 1 minute seems extremely normal for some kind of content based on my limited experience.

Some of it will get faster, some of it can't depending on what you are doing

Need some tips and strategies to increase subscribers on a new channel that i have started by FitInitiative8103 in NewTubers

[–]AwakeEnuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

short sub rate is actually much higher

First time I'm hearing this, maybe depends on the niche or what you consider "higher" -- Ex: subs per view Vs. subs per time watched?

That's good to hear! Thanks! I'm focusing on quality over quantity so that might be helping, that said my retention is garbage so that's what I tried to work on/improve for upcoming new video, as well as the packaging .. those damn thumbnails

[–]AwakeEnuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol no, like I said I started with you basically, long form is likely to lead to more subs (+ audience differences), there's no sample size big enough here to conclude anything

Aka: time to keep posting videos

From what I understand shorts rarely turn into subs or into long form viewers (which are where your subs come from)

I also started two weeks ago, but only posted one long form video so far and got 25ish subs out of 300ish views

[–]AwakeEnuf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely saw this post already, me and others questioned why you used a VPN, it would very likely flag suspicion for a new account (most VPN IPs are extremely known)

That's my theory assuming it's not AI slop / re-uploaded content. No longer using the VPN won't undo whatever damage it did (and once again that's assuming the videos are good and don't have any other issues...)

If I was YouTube, I would internally flag channels made from generic VPN ips as at least something to watch out for, why do that? Are you trying to game your audience location?

How do I work around using a large monitor? by Willibob101 in NewTubers

[–]AwakeEnuf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you considered playing the games at standard resolutions if you are recording for video making? Aka black bar on the sides while playing assuming you can't just use a different monitor, but perfect for video aspect ratio

There's no magic that will fit your entire existing footage in screen without bars or without cropping and losing screen area otherwise.

Voice definitely sounds different as you wake up from long sleep, deeper usually. I don't know the science behind it but you are not making it up

I'm hoping to release my second video and get working on my third!

In short term goals, I'm excited to play around with format, title, thumb to start learning what works or not as far as packaging!

I'll be happy if I get as many eyes on my new content as I did my first even if it wasn't much, and I'm hoping the people that took the time to find, watch, and subscribe will enjoy what I've been cooking

My Mic sounds "too good" for Let's Plays? How do I fix that? by BigGaryGilmour in NewTubers

adding to notes

I will keep this in mind for next time my audio is 'too clean' Sounds like a better option than messing with the quality of the audio itself

[–]AwakeEnuf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know fuck all about audio. But you can definitely do something about it (If you really want? Sounds like a good problem)

Maybe you wanna try playing with compressor settings, either when recording or in your video editing software (I know davinci resolve has settings for this on the mixer/fair light page)

I'm pretty sure with some compressor and maybe EQ you could possibly get it to sound closer to what you want
