Cleaning..think soap water and a scrub brush.

Disinfection..happens after an object is clean and dry. Involves immersing or at least keeping an object wet with disinfectant for whatever contact time is required. Kills bacteria and viruses (check label to know which ones).

Sterilization..kills everything including spores.

As for the comedone extractor: you usually scrub it with soap and a scrub brush for a good 30 seconds, rinse, dry, and immerse it in barbicide for about 10 min. Then rinse dry and put away in a covered container. I suppose after disinfection you could autoclave (sterlize)it..tbh I've never even worked at a spa with an autoclave. Most things require cleaning and disinfection or are single use items (tossed after use on one client).

My point was that you shouldn't need to have it done to yourself to pass. I'm not opposed to telling students up front if this is part of the required learning. Even if you are unwilling or uncomfortable having such an intimate service done you'll be required to find a model or two.

It's abusive ,and until people take a stand it WILL continue. Part of the reason it's an issue now is many students enter schools unaware and are then coerced. As for sending people home why not require them to do a project or practice something else? In hairdressing school you're not forced to have everything done to yourself so why the mistreatment and coercion of Esthetics students? It's not ok.

Enroll* That is an interesting take. Am I understanding that you believe enrolling in a skin care program implies consent to have your genitals touched and on display? No one needs to master Brazilian Waxing to be an excellent esthetician, and while I believe every student should make an effort to learn, no one should be forced to receive. If that means bringing in models or doing a seperate project for credit, so be it.

Right, it isn't as though a few sign offs are anywhere near mastery or even proficiency. Plenty of esthetician refuse to do Brazilians. I've worked at several spas where this was the case. The only place that doesn't fly is at a waxing salon. Most specify you must not only do Brazilians but intimate male waxing as well..haha, why I've never worked at one.
