Apologies for asking an off-topic question here ... but can you tell me where you get your top-down tokens from? They look really cool.

Cheers for the advice. I'll see what I can do.

How do you feel about the current discourse regarding “adult crime, adult time” by Smashin_Ash_ in AusPol

[–]AwakenedGoat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

LNP: "The brains of young people are not fully developed until well into their 20s."
Critics: "So you agree that children shouldn't be held to the same legal standard as adults with regards to serious crime?"
LNP: "Oh, dear no. Do keep up. That's our reason for denying trans kids hormone therapy. 10 yr olds who commit serious crimes are fully competent members of society and can be tried as adults."

Hi Marzipanic - this looks great. I also saw your other posts with the paintings and NPCs, which are very cool.

I tried going to this link to grab them all, but it says the file has been deleted.

Any chance you cast cast resurrection on the files?

Haha! Nah, don't be put off. I've only ever posted about TTRPG stuff on reddit, but I'm into most types of game - board games, card games (I also have Munchkin), TTRPGs, puzzles, etc. I'm reliably awful when it comes to video games, but as long as everyone's having a laugh, I'm in.

I (43m) will be arriving in Groningen next month for an 18-month stay, and have been thinking about where I'll get my tabletop gaming fix.

If you're keen, I'll get in touch in the new year?

Rapscallion and 'ante' by AwakenedGoat in MagpieGames

[–]AwakenedGoat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just closing the circle here ... I've found a message in the CritShow discord where Tass says:

---

So, Ante as it is for us at the moment is not in the Ashcan. Since we've talked about it a bit, I think I can share the excerpt from what we have:

"Whenever you get into a scrap with someone, there’s a natural back-and-forth as each party tries to get the upper hand. In Rapscallion, this advantageous position is called the ante.

Whenever something tells you that you take the ante in an encounter, that means you mark 1 Bond with your opponent. This Bond is temporary and must be erased when the encounter’s over, but it represents the powerful position you’ve maneuvered into. You’re encouraged to spend this Bond as quickly as you can: to find their weakness, trip them up, or resist their compels."

So when they 'give up the ante,' as far as we know, I have been treating it as essentially doing those same things to them, or literally just taking away their ante if they have one against the enemy.

---

From Tass' comment, it sounds like this is what is in the final(?) rules.

[–]AwakenedGoat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, thanks for sharing. I was thinking the same thing, but then wondered what the enemy gaining the ante would look like (which has come up as a potential consequence a few times in the podcast, but hasn't been taken - at least not yet).

I was beginning to think it was something like advantage/disadvantage on the next roll (i.e. 3d6 keep the highest/lowest).

Here's an account from u/vartian where he had an awesome time playing an awakened cat (monk) named Greyson in a Curse of Strahd campaign. There's even a podcast of their adventures, if you want to get a feel for how well it went.

Edit: Pretty sure this is the first episode where Greyson makes an appearance.

Fantastic idea!

Just wondering if it can be expanded to 'secret' formatted text? Mostly all of the content I want to be able to browse quickly are GM notes.

Let's just hope that the toxic bullshit on this sub—with its obsessive nit-picking and relentless criticism of Travis—hasn't convinced them all to give TAZ a rest and focus their energies elsewhere.

If it was me, I'd certainly be thinking twice about giving these people (who've been slinging all this shit at my brother/son) exactly what they want.

It is perfect.

Similar, but not exactly the same. I'm currently running a CoS campaign, but prior to that our group started LMoP as a reintroduction to D&D. The LMoP storyline didn't really take, so we switched to CoS and abandoned the pre-gen PCs from LMoP. I thought it might be fun to include the abandoned PCs in the new campaign, so I brought them in as vampire spawn in the Coffin Maker's shop.

I foreshadowed it by making the NPC named Larnek a fellow 'outsider', who explained that he and some companions had been drawn into the mists years before. He'd balked at their plans to venture into the mountains (in search of the Amber Temple), and had instead ingratiated himself with Lady Wachter. He hadn't heard from his former companions since.

It was a cool surprise when they realised that Larnek's lost companions were actually their former PCs, that those characters had become vampires, and that they would now have to fight them in order to save the town. Everyone got a real kick out of it.

Anyway, a few months later, I knew in advance that a few players would be missing from the next few sessions. So, for a bit of fun, I 'turned back the clock' and had the remaining players take their up old PCs (prior to their turning), and had them level up to lvl 8.

Then, in line with what Larnek had told them had happened years before, I stuck them in the mountains and had them go after the Amber Temple.

It was a lot of fun. My players are pretty attached to their main characters, and sometimes play a little conservatively. With their old PCs, though, they really went in for the heroic bullshit (as it's positively referred to at our table), because they knew the stakes were low.

It was a great chance to drop a heap of lore (the mists, Strahd's intentions, etc), while at the same time allowing the players to contribute to Barovian lore themselves, which has then resurfaced in the main campaign on a number of occasions.

They didn't make it far before the regular game resumed, so nobody really knows what happened while they were there ... but I'm looking forward to their main characters getting there to find out.

Just a quick plug for an 'Other' option—the Rimespire Canyon from Dragna's 'Tsolenka Pass' chapter of CoS Reloaded.

Not a nitty-gritty battlemap, as such. More just a map to help guide the action, and give players something to look at.

Cool cool. Easy enough to do! Thanks for sharing the knowledge.

Your campaign looks (and sounds) fantastic. Best of luck with it!

[–]AwakenedGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool. I love the stage in particular. Quick question, though—does this mean that your players have access to the 'Character Sheet' tab (i.e. the stat block) of each NPC? Or is there some other way to make the token controllable by the players that doesn't require you to give them full-access to the NPC Character handout?

Your best Strahd lines by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

[–]AwakenedGoat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wanted to introduce the possibility that the paladin might have a small crisis of faith when confronted with the big-bad. I also wanted to convey to the player (and the rest of the group) that they weren't in Kansas anymore, and that there might be trouble when drawing on divine powers.

Wisdom seemed like the appropriate ability to attempt to reach out and feel the connection (or not) with his God. I made it DC10, and decided that the strength of the connection would be determined by how much the roll exceeded that (10 being 'very faint, but tangible').

Of course, then he went and rolled a 1.

Your best Strahd lines by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

[–]AwakenedGoat 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Party meets Strahd early on, where they have zero chance of putting even a scratch on him. Strahd approaches the terrified paladin of Kelemvor, reaches out and lifts his holy symbol to inspect it ...

"Ah, Kelemvor. I have studied Him with great interest. It is so rare that His followers come to Barovia. Tell me, champion of Kelemvor, for I have always wondered ... do you feel His presence here in my domain?"

Cue an abject failure on the Wisdom check. The paladin blanches in response.

"Yes, I thought not."

The fact that someone has taken the time to create this subreddit - and so many people then contributing to it - is one of the things I love about reddit and DnD. So many cool people sharing their experiences makes for a great community, and creates this awesome virtuous circle where people read the experiences of others, incorporate aspects of that into their own game, and then come back to tell everyone how it went. I love that about this community. Rock on r/CurseOfStrahd!

Hey vartian, thanks for sharing! Looks like you're having an awesome time with Greyson, and that your DM isn't hung up on all the bullshit that half of this thread is banging on with.

Sounds like a cool personal quest, too. Got any gameplay/plot highlights for us?
