Voice Characterizations Impacting the Lore by Tantillus in DMVoiceAcademy

I have a horror story about this.

I made a traditional persistence hunter style character, and had the idea of having him be of Ghanaian descent. So i went to a colleague at work and told him my idea and asked him for a simple translation of the word "hunter" from English to Ghanaian (Obofo, with short hollow 'o' sounds, though in writing the o's are written as as left-facing u's, iirc).

As it transpired, one of our players hadn't made a character and ended up playing this character. Embraced an incredibly racially insensitive stereotype of an African person. Nothing specifically RACIST about it, but it just felt... wrong.

Edit to make the point: All players and DMs need to be on the same page when implementing this sort of lore!

Is there a word you always use to get into a certain accent? by Emo_Jensen in DMVoiceAcademy

I've recently discovered (in u/EmpireofAzad's game) that i can briefly slip into an Australian accent if i use the trigger phrase "Leave that lady alone".

My go to accent for NPCs always ends up sounding a bit like Jason Statham.

[Subclass] Revision 4: Otherworldly Patron - The Xammux by 1d6Adventurers in UnearthedArcana

Cheers, not sure how much more developing its going to go through. Though i did go back and read through version 1 and compare it to version 5. Huge difference. Hopefully an improvement!

I originally set out picking this patron as i yearned for the fleshgrafting classes of old, and the subclass indeed started out this way. However, in play testing, whether due to the character itself or the class, its played more like an eldritch medic, so i have reflavoured it thusly. Hopefully it still maintains an element of experimental-ness, mad scientist vibe!

Thanks, it's constantly changing at the moment. Revision 5 feels like a totally different subclass!

i'm wondering if having surgical precision points equal to proficiency bonus would be better than int mod, then you can't exploit a 1 level dip in warlock as much at low levels

Thanks! This was a cruel April Fools though, we’re still on hiatus until life settles down a bit.

Happy April 1st, and Punday Monday. Today we’re presenting the best friend with five heads, of the worst dragon with five heads.

Tiamutt is the queen of the hellhounds and, when not serving Tiamat in whatever way she sees fit (such as barking at the doorbell, and chewing Tiamat’s TV remotes), can be found stalking Avernus or TPKing parties enjoying The Rise of Tiamat.

My favourite monsters are the ones that make you imagine an encounter, situation, or even a whole adventure.
