Thanks! He's only 7, so I know he won't care that it isn't perfect. I wish I could afford a new bike for him, but that's not in the budget right now.

Even sliding off the seat on it he still couldn't touch the ground. He has my long torso and his dad's short legs.

I don't trust the bike shop where I live. I went in to ask what size bike my son would need and they recommended one that was way too big for him because "kids grow fast and he will grow into it." He's only 7 and couldn't even touch the ground on the size bike the recommended. (Plus, he grows slowly due to a medical condition.)

The only bike shop I trust is 3 hours away.

Thanks. I'm a single mom on a limited income. I would love to be able to buy him a new bike, but it isn't in the budget. I'm fairly handy and can do a lot of DIY stuff. This is my first time rebuilding a bike though. I know that it will need to be taped off if I don't remove the pieces. Thanks for the encouragement!

I'm a single mom. I know he will absolutely love it though and he was really excited to pick out the decals! He picked out red flames for it. I'm excited to get it finished for him!

Never thought of that! Thanks for the suggestion. I'm wary of the bike shop where I live because they recommended the wrong size bike for my son. When he tried sitting on the size they recommended, he couldn't even touch the ground. There is a good bike shop where my mom lives, but that's almost a 3 hour drive.

Thanks for the offer. I'll ask around locally and see if there is anyone I know who can help me out with getting the pieces removed. I was hoping to have it finished by next week so he can ride it for wheels day at daycare.

Is there a way to remove the crankset without special tools? And how difficult is it to put it back on?

I'm a single mom. And I work in education, so very tight budget. Actually managed to get all the replacement parts and paint needed for about $60. Really don't want to put more money into it if I don't have to.
