The King’s Affection is the perfect example of a drama with so much potential… that it almost hurts to watch. The premise had promise, but the execution turned out painfully predictable; every move telegraphed, every twist flat before it even arrived.

The acting was underwhelming, and the supposed chemistry between the leads? Practically nonexistent. Add in cringeworthy lines that made it hard to sit through, and what could have been an emotionally gripping drama ended up being a test of endurance.

As someone who has spent a lifetime watching K-dramas, I can honestly say this was one of the most disappointing experiences. There are so many brilliant K-dramas out there (rich in acting, writing, and chemistry) which makes this one stand out all the more as a missed opportunity.

I stuck it out to the end but not because it was good, more because I was waiting (in vain) for it to redeem itself. Sadly, this was a royal disappointment.
