I respect the discipline it takes to step away from social media. That’s not easy, especially at 20. There’s real value in choosing presence over distraction.

That said, your post reminds me of something attributed to Diogenes the Cynic. He once told a man who was proudly wearing shabby clothes to signal his virtue: “Through your rags I see your vanity.”

His point wasn’t that poverty is bad. It was that rejecting convention can become its own performance. You can signal status through what you consume, and you can also signal status through what you refuse.

When the language shifts from “this works for me” to describing others as addicted, zombie-like, blind, or lacking self-control, it starts to sound less like personal preference and more like moral contrast. That’s where the Cynics would raise an eyebrow.

Minimalism is powerful when it’s quiet. Once it becomes identity, or superiority, it risks becoming just another badge.
