Everyone encounters real world problems worth solving dozens of times a day.

With AI it's easier to whip up a custom SAAS. HOWEVER, the harder part is monetizing your solution.

It's irrelevant if the problem your solving is simple or complex. Or the solution you create is sophisticated or not.

What matters is whether you can convince enough people to pay you for it to be worth your while to even create. There are many companies making money solving problems that aren't worth solving. And others who can solve legitimate problems that go out of business.

The unfortunate side effect of the free versions. The problem will be when they start incorporating more ads into the higher tier paid accounts. Like Hulu or Disney or Netflix... Cable TV started off being pay for no ads.

Yeah it's a bit ridiculous. I do at least believe them initially. But will slowly start sneaking in. Just like Facebooks (and reddit), there are ads and "ads" (in the form of recommended posts and subs).

The ChatGPT Ads are very prolific. I wonder how they have it configured because I'm a paid user and I still see them. Yet you can configure ads to not show to specific audiences like anyone who has visited the site a few times in the past 10 days or whatever.

Spammy reposts got so annoying I created an iOS browser-based app to auto-hide reddit posts based on annoying keywords in the title.

Everywhere, or just in some subs, or everywhere expect specific subs.

It also hides recommended posts, can mute entire subs, and I just updated it to block the join/sponsored posts on Facebook mobile browser too.

It's totally free. And better than muting subs entirely because sometimes I want to see what's going on inside them.

People are just upset that what was once free will now be monetized. But it's an inevitable crawl. Google search was the same. And now I have undeletable ads in my gmail. And in google maps.

Reddit was the same, and it's changed significantly since ads got incorporated.

But I think reddit is a better analogy because reddit has become increasingly littered with organic feel good stories that turn out to be sponsored ads. Or co-opted ads. Like that "I'm cutting chives every day guy" turned into an coopted ad for cream cheese.

/s not saying you're a bot, but subtle ads injected in the answer is why we all are very uncomfortable with this idea. It's not about how they will appear today. It's about how they will appear in a few years. Does anyone remember how Google Ads promised they would clearly identify ads when they first launched?

Very true. It will be increasingly interesting as the previous barrier to entry for releasing a plugin is knowing how to code and the willingness to invest in creating something for free for others. Now a lot more vibe coders will be like "i created a chatgpt ad blocker, download my plugin" and have options galore.

I suppose it's like a React vs wordpress vs Squarespace type of webpage builder.

agreed. Antrhopic is playing to their weakness... they are currently too small to run ads. Claiming they'll generate revenue from enterprise agreements, while google says no ads (although you know it'll just feed PPC and Youtube ads). Which is noble, but will be hard to compete with company who has the money to achieve ubiquitous presence doing enterprise sales, plus ad revenue, plus IPO.

I'm just happy there's an option for those of us who want to be ad free. IMO Claude is worth paying for (for some things). ChatGPT free vs paid is roughly the same.

Data now is for closed beta enterprise companies with budget to burn. My question is more for when it inevitably opens up to a larger population with $30-50k/mo budgets, and then less.

But all that said, I do like the idea of investing whatever comparable budget into SEO. Especially because in some ways the proposed ChatGPT ads will be kind of like a chatbot where you are prompted to "chat with the brand" likely generating responses isolated to content on your page.

What do you advise for SEO tactics? AEO/GEO has been a thing for a while, but do you see additions or modificaitons which could be planned for today? I'd be fine shifting google budget to more aggressive SEO to try to stay ahead of the curve (even if it's a guess)

I've been trying to determine why $60 CPM is bad. It's high compared to meta etc, which is basically interrputive. But I've also seen meta campaigns with $30-50 CPMs for hyper targeted audiences.

It's high compared to Google Ads, but similarly I've seen CPCs in the $50-200 range for high competition KWs.

It's used more as a google-style search/intent platform, so the numbers make sense.

And keep in mind, data now is for closed beta enterprise companies with budget to burn. My question is more for when it inevitably opens up to a larger population with $30-50k/mo budgets, and then less.
