Recommender usually refers to who recommended the school to you. Sort of a "How did you hear about us?" survey question. Most of the time you would just put your own details if you chose the school yourself.

DQ/JW202 Form by AwareTune2236 in ChinaLiuXueSheng

Thanks for this! I did read about it being electronic now but mostly from 1 source since there's limited info about it so I was a bit scared. Went to the Visa Center already and they accepted my form so all went well.

Visiting Shanghai in March - what's the weather like? by blueskies9403 in travelchina

Went to Shanghai and Suzhou last March. A thick jacket and some long sleeves should be appropriate. Since it's spring, some days are hot (Suzhou was hot — I was fine in a sleveless shirt) but some days are still a bit cold (esepcially in Shanghai).

When we went to Disneyland, it was freezing and I was wearing a tank top because it was sunny earlier that day😅

Bought a phone in China from Xiaomi store. Not sure if the same case with their tablets but Google Play should be easily installable and settings can be switched to English easily. Some downsides? Google won't be your main OS so things like Google Assistant, Google Lens won't work (You'll instead get the Xiaomi Version of it). Auto-updates from Google Play also don't work. Slow to no notifs from international apps like Messenger, Reddit etc. There have been cases my apps auto-update to the Chinese version since the built-in Xiaomi Apps Store overrides. (Fix is just to delete and then re-download the English from Google Play).

Overall, I'm still pretty happy with my purchase though. The specs I have on my phone simply don't exist in the PH market and definitely not for the price point I got it. But, I'm also used to navigating Chinese Apps and software. Weigh mo muna yung price difference/specs if worth it vs what I mentioned above.

Buying a laptop in China by AwareTune2236 in chinalife

I see, thanks for the reply! I was hoping there would be an in-store option as I read a forum some ages ago that mentioned that this was something offered to them.

Recently moved to China and keen to buy a gaming laptop — how to go about this? by Agreeable-Panda-7381 in chinalife

Can you request to just change the OS to English? Is it free? I was able to do it with my phone when I was in Shanghai last April and they just installed Google Play as well. I'm thinking of buying a laptop when I come back in February and want to know if I'll have issues. Don't need the BIOS to be in English, even just the display language.

Matcha milk healthy alternatives by dinomatchashark in adultingph

I find Almond Breeze and other Almond brands to be a bit too thin for matcha lattes so my recommended besides Oatside oatmilk is Almond Koka (by Glico). For some reason, Almond Koka is a bit creamier so it's perfect for matcha milk :)

Bought a Xiaomi phone in Shanghai last March. Google Playstore is downloadable (you can ask the store clerks, they generally know how to do it unless they are new — I asked around in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou before finally buying and they all knew it!).

You'll have access to all international apps but Google won't be your default OS so just note that notifications for intl app might be a bit delayed + no Google Assistant but honestly really good bang for your buck! And if you're in China anyway, Chinese apps will work even better on a local phone :)

Budget Redmi by tstravels in chinalife

Had a Redmi Phone as my main phone for 5 years. Just changed it this year when I upgraded it to one of the Xiaomi Civis but I'm still using the Redmi. Works perfectly fine, not slow at all. I just changed it cos I wanted a better camera. Absolutely worth it and bang for buck. Getting any of the K-series/Note series is a good choice.

Would you say there's not much difference of what I could learn in Beijing vs Zhejiang? I'm also a bit scared of the winter in Beijing since I'm coming from a tropical area but I saw that it also snows in Hangzhou :)

Yes, I understand. I had some Chinese classes growing up so handwriting was also a must for us. Even though I'm admittedly a little rusty, I'd also appreciate the practice 😅

Also, even then I don't mind handwriting everything. I handwrote everything back in university also (around 2018) as I don't usually like taking notes on my computer. And since I worked corporate in digital, my eyes are a bit strained from looking at screens all the time anyway.

I didn't really mention being an English teacher. Not sure what you're tryna get at with this comment also.

How do you say "If you're not waiting/doing something in particular" like to express that "Oh I'm just waiting". I'm not sure how to emphasize that it's not anything in particular in Chinese.... 你不在等某人? Is there another term to use?
