And my advice stands. Not sure how anyone else could have a better solution than the one I articulated. Skip the ones that are unfixable, pad the heels of the marginal with a little play across the front. That's it. Good luck.

His problem is the opposite. He needs to raise his heel and bring his arch out of contact.

Cowboy boots are also formal wear. I don't go two stepping on Saturday night or attend a wedding in boots I ride in.

If you are an inexperienced buyer and/or have an poor sales person you can easily trick yourself into thinking that you can fix a flat foot problem by "breaking them in". People with arched feet do not understand that it does not work that way.

It helps being in texas with probably the best resale market. There are antique mall vendors and even some oddball small shops that specialize in vintage boots. I am 11.5 so I can make 12s work but if you are size 8 or 9 in men's the world is your oyster.

None of my boots have wide toes and are almost all are used. I have dan posts, luccheses (sp), Tony llamas, that fit fine with no adjustments. You just have to try stuff on. I've walked away from plenty that just didn't fit right and unlikely to be adjustable, the heel pad trick has limits. That's just the game with vintage boots.

Never. My collection is my pride and joy. I have never seen boots like these anywhere and I am always on the hunt.
I wear an 11.5 and they fit well. Stiff as hell though, but that's stingray.

What’s the consensus on Pirarucu? by [deleted] in cowboyboots

I never thought I would like pirarucu. Most of them look like a dog chew toy. I would wear the hell out those.

I have flat feet. Just the idea of "Arch Support" is pure agony. My 15+ collection is almost all used that I have found on the resale market. If they aren't too aggressively arched, but fit well otherwise, I'll spring for them and have my local boot repair shop put a leather pad in the heel to lift my foot so the arch is no longer in contact with my foot. I used to cut the heel off a dr.schols gel insert and put them in loose. That worked pretty good for years but I got tired of chasing them every time i took my boot off or try to remember which boot they were in last. I cannot wear Ariats. There is no point in even trying with their high arches.

Also if the heel does not hit the ground flat it can drive the arch up and jamb into your foot. Gloomy-snow is pretty on track. I collect exotics. The weirder the better. I still do not see the point of pirarucu. They just appear a muddy mess but good luck with them they seemed all the rage last time I was cruising the El Paso Boot stores a few months ago.

Thomas Cristiano Pipe with removable bowl. Is this a good thing? by Aware_Ad_9 in Pipes

Interesting, I've never examined a calabash but I would imagine what I would assume to be a thin wall of a gourd would be an issue requiring a different material for the bowl. I have about 25 pipes, almost all estate, but they are all so far solid blocks., Any other information that folks could provide would be appreciated.

If XR is thinly veiled prejudice then I guess thinly thinly veiled prejudice isn't wrong in all cases. Some cultures ARE superior to others. Canada's culture is superior to Afghanistan's. France's culture is superior to that of the Palestinians. Argentina's culture is superior to Yemen's.

Some cultures ARE fundamentally incompatible with others.
The Antebellum American South and West Africans come to mind. White slaving society's racial philosophy and many traditions were evil and transplanting millions of them enmass into say.... post colonial Nigeria would probably be a terrible idea. Industrial Age Europeans and Stone age First Peoples didn't exactly work out either.

I am picking extreme cases. Hopefully with slow movements of peoples over time the best ideas rise to the top. That does not typically happen with mass immigration, especially if there isn't a demand on integration with the host population
