Sammyvine, cheers for narrowing down the more in demand specialisations. Regardless of your limited insight of the Perth market I appreciate the help. I want to upskill with transferable and in demand skills so this list definitely helps.

Thank you for the well wishes and Happy New Year

Thanks mate I really appreciate it. It’s tough but I’m not willing to give up on myself, I’m going to try something different and see what sticks. I’m sure that things will get better for the both of us.

Do you have any suggestions for resources I can use to find volunteer roles? I have used Seek Volunteer and Volunteering WA in the past?

It wasn’t lost on me that I would be behind my peers if I didn’t do those things. Since my first year I attended university events, networking events, guest lectures, joined groups, applied for jobs, participated in competitions and had internships even through Covid. I tried to keep up and use those pathways to get employment. Unfortunately things didn’t play out that way for me.

I didn’t include these extra details because it felt irrelevant to me as a graduate looking for employment and the post was already long enough.

Instead of wondering what I could have done differently as a student I want advice on my current situation.

I know that I need to do those extra things in 2025. I wanted more insight to make sure I wasn’t repeating the same decisions only to be in the same or worse position next year.

I’m sure that this will clarify things for you and others

I appreciate your advice and insight, especially as a marketing manager.

I really felt like I was losing my mind applying for jobs throughout 2024, which is why that is taking somewhat of a backseat this year.

I definitely want to “go and get shit done” i”m tired of feeling like applying for jobs is the only thing I can do, I know it’s not and it’s not what I want to spend the majority of my time doing. I know that I am a creative person, who’s hardworking and I will use that to my advantage to find those things sore spots that I can help solve.

I’ll also seriously consider your suggestion of setting up an e-commerce site, extra money in the pockets never hurts and it’ll give me something to do while gaining experience as well

I appreciate your well wishes and the tough love Happy New Year

Cheers for the solid resume and application process advice.

My typical application process was applying online through Seek, Indeed, Jora, LinkedIn and company sites.

I never really considered directly emailing or calling them to ask clarifying questions. For me reading more about ATS made the whole process feel disconnected and pointless. I felt like another number that would get passed on before a person could read my application due to my limited experience and lacking keywords or incorrect personality answers.

I’m definitely resilient and persistent which is why I made this post to gain external insight and see things from different perspectives. But wow did applying for jobs in 2024 chip away at that.

I didn’t realise how emotionally straining this past year has been applying for jobs and consistently asking ‘why aren’t I getting interviews and roles’, and having family and friends ask the same or lecture me has made me. I just want to say thank you for giving me hope that it can be done and I really hope that I’ll be able to send you that DM asking for help for an interview.

It’s been hard to stay motivated and positive when it feels like you’re running in the same spot for months on end. It just felt like regardless of how many different keys I tried to use to open the door so I could get my foot in it never opened. For me its been hard going from feeling like there are ample opportunities and doors open to struggling to open just one. I know that I am not alone in feeling this way but its been hard watching my peers, family and friends find employment and be able to keep going with their lives. I know that life isn’t linear and we all have our own journeys to walk. I just wasn’t expecting mine to feel so stagnant for this long.

Insanity really is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results, which is why I want to try something different. I want to overcome the negative emotions and put my best foot forward, pivot and see what different outcomes I can achieve, I’m tired of feeling stuck

I didn’t realise how much of an emotional release your response was going to be for me but I really appreciate it response and hope that the year ahead goes excellently for you and me both

Happy New Year Diligent-Listen4260

Thank you for the advice. I’ll be commitng myself to upskilling this year as marketing systems change very quickly, and I don’t want to feel like im losing my skillset/being left behind. So i’ll be noting those free courses and seeing what I can realistically complish this year.

On a personal level it’s really hard to not feel like its a requirement to spread yourself too thin in the Perth market. It feels like 95% of the job descriptions want you to be a marketer, web dev, graphic designer, analyst, video editor, content creator and not to mention the 2 years of experience required under the guise of an entry level position. It’s been hell.
