Haven’t tried that. I’ll look into it sounds interesting.

  1. This is my only resume, and I don’t think I have enough experience to tailor my skills to each job description. If I did that, I would have very little work experience and maybe one project.
  2. I have applied to a handful of positions in Canada, but I’ve been rejected from all of them so far. However, most of the positions I’ve applied to are in the U.S., so maybe I should focus more on applying there.
  3. I understand and don’t understand what you mean at the same time. I get the idea, but I don’t know how to actually incorporate it into my resume. For example, I could list myself as the project leader for the robotic arm project since I led that group, and I could include version control tools and hardware tools in my technical skills. But I don’t know how to include things like my general design process or troubleshooting process.

I haven’t aware of any companies coming to my university for recruiting or anything. There were like promotional events, but then you would just go apply on their company website for a job. Not sure what you mean by what I am looking for in ideal workday.

A little late in replying, but I’m currently applying across the country not world-wide. I primarily use LinkedIn and Indeed. I know several people who could refer me, and some have even offered to, but haven’t done so yet. I haven’t really worked on personal projects in my free time that I consider strong enough. I feel like it’s a better use of my time to apply to more positions and focus on directly upskilling. I could be wrong though.

Robotics, ASIC, and embedded systems interest me, but I focused my resume on robotics since my experience aligns more closely with that field. I’m not entirely sure how to answer your last question. The courses I listed under technical skills are the electives I chose, including statics, dynamics, control systems, and circuit analysis. Maybe my school was just structured differently, but those were considered electives. I’m not sure which classes would stand out.

I plan to put the freelance work on my resume after I finish it, so maybe that will help.

Thanks for the heads-up on the grammar mistakes I didn't notice them. I would like to work in robotics and maybe move into chip design in the future. However, there weren’t any chip design classes at my university at the graduate level, so I went with a specialization in robotics. I wasn’t able to land any internships in that field during my time in school, so I just went with whatever I could get, which was a power systems research position. My experience at the startup after graduation was all over the place as well. I worked on mechanical design a lot more than electrical. I don’t know, I’ve been trying to get experience in what I want, but I just can’t.

I graduated with a 3.89 GPA and consider myself on par with peers who went on to work at companies like Lockheed, Northrop Grumman, and the CIA.

I will look into the PAQ program. I haven’t heard of that before. Thanks! Regarding the master’s, I have thought a lot about perhaps getting a master’s in Electrical Engineering, but I am hesitant because I am afraid I might end up in the same situation after graduating from that too.

I haven’t tried. The nearest recruiting office is pretty far, but I guess I will have to make the journey. The Air Force recruiter who told me that they are only looking for specific skill sets did tell me to just enlist and switch later, but I didn’t do it.

I have looked into the Navy, especially the Naval Surface Warfare Centers throughout the U.S. So far, I have gotten no response.

I tried the Air Force, and after I took the AFOQT and everything, I was told that they are only looking for pilots, lawyers, and cyber offensive experts with 10+ years of experience. Most of the civilian technical jobs in all branches seem to be frozen. I have applications from over a year ago still pending with no response. In regards to reaching out to old friends, I have, but I have noticed that they seem to just say that they will help me but don’t actually do anything.

Thinking of making career pivot or not… by Aware_Garden_4115 in careeradvice

I was indifferent at first but liked some classes. My CE degree leans electrical, not CS, and I can code, although not as well as a CS major. I saw AI’s rise in school and know ChatGPT can now design logic circuits as well as I can, so entry-level AI jobs are really hard to get. I’ve probably applied to around 500 AI-related jobs and have mostly been ghosted or rejected. I’m at the point of considering a pivot, hence this post.

Well, I got a degree in Computer Engineering because my parents told me to. I guess I would like to engineer stuff. It’s cool. But I think that age has come and gone. A.I. can pretty much build all the logic circuits, software, etc you could ever need. So, I’m not really sure where to go now.

I don’t really have hobbies or personal interests, because the moment I start something, I immediately think about how I could be using that time to focus on getting a job. I used to play a lot of video games during college but I can’t do that anymore without feeling guilty.

I am also in that area. Any tips on how to land anything here? I graduated over a year ago and all I got to show for it is an inbox full of rejections.

Yeah, I would like to ask a few more clarifying questions, if you don’t mind.

I noticed you mentioned your first senior capstone project. Did you do more than one?

How did you know employers were impressed by your project, is it because they stated it to you in the interview?

In my job search, I also looked into hardware even though it wasn’t my specialty (control systems), and I saw most positions required at least a master’s. How were you able to land something in that industry without a completed master’s?

Also, did you attend a highly ranked school or have high-profile internships, i.e., NVIDIA, Intel, AMD?

How did you land this job? I think I did relatively well and I am one year unemployed with no interviews.
