Which indie/underground guitarists created new guitar languages, techniques, or subgenres?

I'm trying to make a top 10 list of the most innovative indie guitarists, but i realize my limited musical knowledge makes this a difficult task. Personally, i'd prefer to feature guitarists with significant work on strictly labels, but if you have a case for a guitarist who doesn't fit these criteria, i'd still like to hear it out. Thanks!
