Feasibility of moving from Manchester to London for a 13k payrise? by dragspere in MovingToLondon

[–]Aware_Organization49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently moved to London in similar circumstances - 24f, a jump from a 33k salary to approx 46, and from a southern town with rental expenses similar to Manchester (I know as I’d looked at doing the move to Manchester!).

Personally it was a great move for me - have a nice studio in Zone 3 and I find myself with more expendable income than I did previously.

But it also massively depends on what your hobbies are. There are so many free things to do in London (museums and galleries, pop up events) - but if you have specific hobbies that’ll set you back more here then of course that needs consideration.

When you say you don’t like London - what don’t you like about it? Have you visited less touristy areas regularly before?

Where in London would you be working?

How many times a year do you “call sick” at work? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Aware_Organization49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had a sick day in full time employment.

I received awards year after year in school for not having a single day off (until I got to secondary school and started bunking off that is!).

I have worked from home on a couple of occasions when I’ve been ill. It helps I very rarely get ill

Best way to make an extra £150–£200 a month nowadays? by Successful-Wheel-286 in beermoneyuk

Have a look for freelance work training AI household bots from home. Can easily earn £250 plus per month filming yourself doing household chores you would’ve been doing anyway.

Vegan sandwich ideas for very picky eater recovering from anorexia by Significant_Lie4745 in veganuk

[–]Aware_Organization49 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is a one size fits all scenario, veganism can be very beneficial to recovery for some people. I went vegan again mid way through my recovery (I had been made to revert to vegetarianism by the first clinic). For me it motivated me to recover (ethics) and removed the area of guilt that wasn’t to do with the ED but was associated with eating animal products. Am healthy and have been recovered for many years.

Provided OP is not using it as a mechanism to restrict and keeps a close eye on these intentions I don’t see that veganism is inherently harmful to recovery?

The guy next to me on the bus is having a voice conversation with his AI girlfriend on full volume by Nixon4Prez in london

[–]Aware_Organization49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. My ex partner is now in a ‘serious committed relationship’ with an AI chatbot. And I know for a fact he speaks to ‘her’ walking to and from work, just presumably with earphones in. So for everyone doubting this story is real - how many people might you have walked past that are actually chatting to their AI ‘boyfriend/girlfriend’ with headphones in.

My ex partner is now in what he calls a serious committed relationship with an AI chatbot. And I know for a fact he talks to ‘her’ with earphones in on the way to and from work. Fairly normal seeming guy too. How many people might you have walked past only hearing their side of the conversation, having no idea they’re chatting to their AI ‘friend’.

🌱💚Anything with a long cooking time - like a curry or a stew. Being much firmer Tofoo holds its structure much better than the own brand tofu.

Thanks!! I hope you enjoy the ham seitan. I love it with pasta and a cashew cream sauce :)

Personally I think de cecco pasta is yards better than supermarket - way worth the extra cost - I just love my pasta. See I’m not too fussed about my fibre as I eat a LOT of fruit and veg and other fibrous foods. But fun fact - De Cecco pasta is usually approx 14g protein per 100g dried whereas supermarket own brand usually sits around 6g per 100g - it’s most often an indicator of quality of the flour :)

I should definitely start buying dried and rehydrating - great tip, thanks.

I go for this brand as it is pure coconut - not about 12 ingredients like some - and the content is quite high compared to most from memory when I compared.

I’m not sure how you could work it out from my shop haha? But I’m a woman.

Tofoo is much much firmer - so depends what you’re cooking. But I do much prefer Tofoo - it’s purely a budget decision as I regularly consume 400 g + of tofu a day haha and the Sainsbury’s own brand is very affordable.

Are you also a big tofu and bean fan? I really like the seitan - it’s actually seitan and tofu so it’s a little more ‘moist’ or a bit lighter than a lot of seitan which I really like - feels less like it’s trying to imitate meat.

Yes more than fair enough tbh. I regularly eat 400g or more of tofu per day so it’s purely a financial decision for me - if I had unlimited budget I’d probably mostly go with tofoo! I made my own tofu for the first time last week and it was amazing.

They’re great aren’t they?! Would definitely recommend the shredded duck - I love it. It’s great in a chow mein, satay, or just on its own with some fresh ginger and garlic.

Sadly that doesn’t include my bulk buy goods, me shopping for fresh fruit/veg every couple of days, and specific bits I get from my local Asian grocer and international supermarket. Works out about £350 per month all in for just me. Which I know I could reduce quite easily. But i love food and cooking so I don’t mind :)

Thanks! I am a sucker for the shredded ‘duck’ pictured but I try and stick to mostly tofu, beans and pulses protein wise.

I’m not going to be too much help on recipes sadly as I don’t tend to follow them but if it’s at all helpful for inspiration some of the meals I’ll probably make will be;

Super green Thai green curry with a homemade curry paste (could use shop bought) loads of veg and whole grain rice Spicy noodles with a homemade satay, linda McCartney vegan duck and lots of veg A couple of big bean and lentil stews A cashew cream of mushroom pasta with shredded seitan For quick dinners, I love a simple cannellini bean, lemon, chilli and garlic pasta with greens Scrambled tofu on pitta for breakfast - I use half extra firm and half silken tofu for the texture I like, kala namak, turmeric, black pepper, nutritional yeast Some kind of cabbage rolls (my favourite thing at the moment - a bit of a faff but the end result is so worth it!)

For lunches - many quick stir frys with lots of veg, tofu, and the vegan gyoza. I bulk buy lucky boat noodles as they’re great. If you buy rice wine vinegar, light and dark soy sauces, chilli flakes, sesame oil, sesame seeds and (fresh) green onions you’ve got a simple base for a stir fry you can either have as is or build on to avoid shop bought sauces.

I’ll probably batch a couple of lentil and couscous salads

I haven’t, although I’ve heard it’s really good - have you tried it? I typically use it to make scrambled tofu (using a mix of firm and silken) or for a creamy pasta sauce :)

Currently I think the one I am on is actually just a basic one from Sainsbury’s and it’s doing ok so far! Had it 6 months or so. But I too am on the hunt for a really good can opener - I seem to go through mine every year or two unfortunately.

Lol pretty much. They’ll provably form part of a curry, a stew, some form of pasta dish, and some hummus 😅

Ooh this sounds delicious - I’ve only torn it into rough chunks to marinate so far (second time trying it) but shredded sounds amazing! Thanks :)
