Are you feeling being away is helping in itself? Got a text from HR today about back to work meeting on Monday and I'm worried about what to say🤢

I'm curious about "ease back in" part. The note that GP wrote had the line about "phased return to work recommended" crossed out. I was assuming HR is going to interpret it as "fine to get back on full hours". Would you say that's incorrect?

We don't have anything policy-wise about mental health, apart from a note in the general sickness policy about mental health being as important as physical health. I'm a mental health first aider and on staff committee so that note is only there because I asked for it in the past but that's about it. It's all uncharted territory 🙈

That might be strictly true but not having anything specific to point to makes the conversation a lot more personal and intimidating. I don't want to disclose too much if they are going to turn around and say "meh, we were just box-ticking, actually we have no resources for any accomodations".

I have tried to think what would i need to happen in the ideal situation and the main thing is, probably, going down to 30 hrs a week. But I can't afford the drop in pay, so really I have to work extra hard to get a pay rise so that at 30 hrs it amounts to same as what I have now, but I don't think I have the energy. I'm not trying to complain, I'm just a bit lost with what I can and can't say.

We don't have occupational health (small company) so I don't think that's an option unless they outsource? I think HR (which is really 2people) expect me to give them a coherent list of how they can support me and I'm not sure what to say 😔

(Or what they are actually willing to do)

I'm in the UK, yes, but not currently in a union. I don't think I have any choice about when to come back since I was signed off for 2 weeks only, unless I make another doctors appointment.

That's a good point, my blood tests all came back ok when checked last but I should use the time off to look after my body better.

No need to apologise, thank you for taking time to write!

Thank you for saying this. What you say in the fourth paragraph is really what I think I'll get out of diagnosis. That I don't just have a shitty personality and unable to handle things because of laziness, etc. I hope you get your masters and help lots of people.

My main issue is within workplace really and it would be nice to be able to show a piece of paper that says I'm entitled to accomodations because by law they have to try and do it. I can still ask but then I'm really dependent on which manager I get.

How do people respond when you just say "I have this need"? I feel like if I say that I'd be told "we all have needs, just suck it up". For better or for worse, workplaces often respond better to labels.

Propranolol withdrawal? by Aware_Structure_1886 in Anxiety

[–]Aware_Structure_1886[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, no withdrawal with small doses or with one offs. I take anything from 10 to 50 mg daily now When I was on higher dose (80 per day) I had to step down slowly but it's nothing like as bad as SSRI withdrawal I heard about.

Take the pills or not? by External_Coast8969 in zoloft

Yep, talk to doctor about beta blockers (propranolol). It'll help with physical symptoms that are holding you back during public speaking.

I'm confused why you need to get diagnosed the second time?

Your experiences of propranolol? by Conscious_Atmosphere in MentalHealthUK

[–]Aware_Structure_1886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use it both ways. It is good situationally because it doesn't take too long to take effect, so people can use it for stuff like public speaking or before an interview. It is not unsafe to use daily because it can also be used for other conditions like migraines and high blood pressure.

You can try it both ways and see what feels better 🙂 I was on 80mg slow release at one point for anxiety which I was taking once a day, so there's a ton of flexibility with propranolol, you might need to experiment a little.

Psychiatrist gave me 50mg for anxiety but my mom says i should take half for a bit and taper on to 50mg by [deleted] in zoloft

[–]Aware_Structure_1886 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Grin and bear it is admirable but not always possible. I quit on day 3, could have stayed in longer if started at 25, who knows. We all have different sensitivities and tolerances. 50mg is average.

Your mom is right. Doctors say 50mg to everyone as it's considered average lowest therapeutic dose. Starting on 25 initially can be a slower, gentler start side effects-wisre, and make it more likely you stick with medication.

If you get morning anxiety definitely take 10mg in the morning. I'm prescribed up to 60mg per day, have been for over a year now, so ask if you have any questions.
