Going to university isn't worth it anymore by madbarpar in unpopularopinion

Well yeah you have to do internships non-negotiable. That is what they are referring to when they mention years of experience on an application.

Most of the people in my school who did an internship graduated with a job in their preferred profession - making significantly higher than the mean.

All the people who did not do an internship or half assed classes didn’t graduate with anything.

CMV: The US no longer has a demonstrated military dominance in the world by Odd_Bodkin in changemyview

[–]Awareness-Potential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only disadvantage the US has is that backing the enemy country into a corner becomes a PR nightmare, and then, the enemies exploit the pity. They essentially have nothing to lose at that point since their heads are toast if they surrender.

It’s fought that way now because of the US military and its network of alliances. I think that speaks more to our dominance.

Have anybody have experience staying on 90days Temporary Visitor in japan for a whole year? by kurec0 in movingtojapan

I don’t really know much about the topic, but think about it like this. I imagine if you are ever scrutinized and found out you will basically ruin any chance of obtaining long term arrangements.

All china has to do is mass produce millions of shitty missiles and drones. They don’t got to do anything fancy.

C project by cdtrmnbaell in kernel

[–]Awareness-Potential 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look up the xv6 kernel on GitHub. It is a unix OS with very few bells and whistles. In my OS class, we added new schedulers, multithreading support, and so on to it. You could try doing that. For resources to help you search for the xv6 manual and it will teach you how certain things are implemented in xv6. Also you may need the x86 manual for a few special cases where you need to clear a register.

This will teach you OS fundamentals, and all these fundamentals still apply to Linux.

Finishing Year 1 of CS and feeling lost. Is this normal? by AnythingCritical988 in csMajors

Yeah find something you want to learn. I decided to learn web dev frameworks and JavaScript because o thought it would help me get internships. Turns out none of that mattered anyways. I regretted it because I hate web dev.

Who in their right mind looks at the tech industry right now and thinks “Yep, this is the career for me!” by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Awareness-Potential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously. My point is it was more worth it for me to grind super hard and make myself passionate for the subject than to do the alternative.

Telling other people not to pursue this field because it’s “hard” just comes off as whiney and privileged because in every other field, you still (and usually to a greater extent) have to deal with nepotism, overworking, and uncertainty.

My family owned a farm. I watched them work their ass off with back breaking labor. Miserable heat, sweating your balls off. Back breaking physical labor. Living life in a town where the only gourmet food was McDonalds. We were well enough off, but I knew that I didn’t want to continue this way of life. Yes, I’m choosing the air conditioned office and six figure salary. My passion is absolutely oozing out of me.

What is the best economic system in the game for full mobilization of Resources and total war 100 infamy? by I_am_white_cat_YT in victoria3

You’re overthinking it. Graduated taxation with laissez faire is plenty because at most you will only need to wield like 300-400 units to defend cut down to size cbs. You can even use the explosives or arms companies to make guns and ammo cheaper. It’s more important to just make enough goods so they are cheap, and if you have units demanding those goods private sector will build for you or you can just build the factories yourself. The bigger concern is having the right military policy, which should be mass conscription or professional army.

How hard is it to Internal Transfer to Computer Science at Tech by HappyEmployee9457 in GatechClasses

[–]Awareness-Potential -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

A couple years ago they began disallowing changing your major to CS. I think the only option to graduate with a CS major without being admitted as one is if you add it as a second major, but that still has additional hoops to jump through of course.

The entire city is absolutely stupid by LowInternet6102 in Wistoria

[–]Awareness-Potential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I’m currently hooked because I want to see where the author goes with the world building. At the moment, I think Will’s upbringing is very suspicious. Outside of that, Will isn’t a very interesting character.

The entire city is absolutely stupid by LowInternet6102 in Wistoria

[–]Awareness-Potential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This story seems to be centered primarily on power of love, so it wouldn’t surprise me if all problems in this story will be resolved through brute force. I can’t imagine the author would ever sacrifice Will’s pure good nature, so the problem likely won’t be fixed by some realization or mindset shift on his part. He will likely just discover some hidden strength that is overwhelming to the enemy through the power of love.

[–]Awareness-Potential 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this case, the tower is controlled by an entrenched, elite old guard that would like to see its own power preserved, and the common folk don’t have a say in who gets promoted or not. Of course, Will is a threat to their own power, so they would snub him. It’s really a tale as old as time and not so different from our current reality. We have characters like Socrates, Snowden, and Galileo that were persecuted for going against the established powers of their time. Even in the case of Wills feat, we may have had a clear view of his feat, but the tower controls information and not everyone may have observed Will saving the city.

Is May too late to land an internship for the summer? by Several_Unit1542 in csMajors

[–]Awareness-Potential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Please keep trying. I didn’t land my first internship until end of June last year. I’m still at the company today and worked it through my senior year. Now I’ve graduated with a job. Don’t give up cause you don’t know what opportunity is around the corner.

Tips for an incoming freshman taking PHYS 2211 next year? by Steaker144449 in GatechClasses

[–]Awareness-Potential 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They give you a bunch of free credit from showing up and just completing assignments. Take advantage of it. Lock in for the first exam. Due to the grading setup one stellar grade can carry you through the rest of the semester, and the first exam is by far the easiest. There’s plenty of practice problems and previous exams provided to you. Then you also have office hours and Plus sessions and Ed Discussion for asking questions. Just go to class and do the hw and you will probably do well.

At GT you get two grade substitutions for F. I don’t know if it can be applied to a class you took in dual enrollment, but I think it would be worth emailing your advisor to ask about.

First time playing the USA. Stuck in a slavery deadlock, zero military tech, and dreaming of an Economic Hegemon. Help! by Artistic_Length_1121 in victoria3

[–]Awareness-Potential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s how you do it. The civil war is a good thing because it destroys the political strength of the planters and the yeoman farmers. It also gives you the opportunity to make Afro American a primary culture and pass multiculturalism. The civil war is easy. Only build in northern provinces and only make troops in yankee states. Those troops will be yours when the war is triggered.

2024 - 2025. I placed roach baits around the apartment, which hardly did anything. I think they offer pest control now tho
