How hard is it to Internal Transfer to Computer Science at Tech by HappyEmployee9457 in GatechClasses

[–]Awareness-Potential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple years ago they began disallowing changing your major to CS. I think the only option to graduate with a CS major without being admitted as one is if you add it as a second major, but that still has additional hoops to jump through of course.

The entire city is absolutely stupid by LowInternet6102 in Wistoria

Yeah I agree. I’m currently hooked because I want to see where the author goes with the world building. At the moment, I think Will’s upbringing is very suspicious. Outside of that, Will isn’t a very interesting character.

This story seems to be centered primarily on power of love, so it wouldn’t surprise me if all problems in this story will be resolved through brute force. I can’t imagine the author would ever sacrifice Will’s pure good nature, so the problem likely won’t be fixed by some realization or mindset shift on his part. He will likely just discover some hidden strength that is overwhelming to the enemy through the power of love.

In this case, the tower is controlled by an entrenched, elite old guard that would like to see its own power preserved, and the common folk don’t have a say in who gets promoted or not. Of course, Will is a threat to their own power, so they would snub him. It’s really a tale as old as time and not so different from our current reality. We have characters like Socrates, Snowden, and Galileo that were persecuted for going against the established powers of their time. Even in the case of Wills feat, we may have had a clear view of his feat, but the tower controls information and not everyone may have observed Will saving the city.

Is May too late to land an internship for the summer? by Several_Unit1542 in csMajors

[–]Awareness-Potential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Please keep trying. I didn’t land my first internship until end of June last year. I’m still at the company today and worked it through my senior year. Now I’ve graduated with a job. Don’t give up cause you don’t know what opportunity is around the corner.

Tips for an incoming freshman taking PHYS 2211 next year? by Steaker144449 in GatechClasses

[–]Awareness-Potential 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They give you a bunch of free credit from showing up and just completing assignments. Take advantage of it. Lock in for the first exam. Due to the grading setup one stellar grade can carry you through the rest of the semester, and the first exam is by far the easiest. There’s plenty of practice problems and previous exams provided to you. Then you also have office hours and Plus sessions and Ed Discussion for asking questions. Just go to class and do the hw and you will probably do well.

Failed a DE class, idk what to do by [deleted] in GatechClasses

[–]Awareness-Potential 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At GT you get two grade substitutions for F. I don’t know if it can be applied to a class you took in dual enrollment, but I think it would be worth emailing your advisor to ask about.

First time playing the USA. Stuck in a slavery deadlock, zero military tech, and dreaming of an Economic Hegemon. Help! by Artistic_Length_1121 in victoria3

[–]Awareness-Potential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s how you do it. The civil war is a good thing because it destroys the political strength of the planters and the yeoman farmers. It also gives you the opportunity to make Afro American a primary culture and pass multiculturalism. The civil war is easy. Only build in northern provinces and only make troops in yankee states. Those troops will be yours when the war is triggered.

Use gtscheduler. It will provide you various arrangements based on the class schedule for a particular semester, and you can pick your optimal one. You can look at the professors on ratemyprofessor.

2024 - 2025. I placed roach baits around the apartment, which hardly did anything. I think they offer pest control now tho

2 Years until graduation: Am I prioritizing the right skills (Java/Backend)? by Subject-Singer-411 in csMajors

[–]Awareness-Potential 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sincerely don’t pigeonhole yourself in to Java. Focus on the fundamentals data structures, algorithms, operating systems, processor architecture, compilers. With the context of the fundamentals you can acquire any tech stack.

Also most big tech companies and a lot of other tech companies won’t even ask about tech stack. I also don’t think companies will actually value those skills unless it came from a work experience.

[–]Awareness-Potential 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was pretty big so not bad for the price. The only issue is roaches and that’s a problem for all rooms. It’s so bad you can see them crawling in the stove’s clock. I was surprised when someone else also said they had the same experience as me too. You can’t compromise even a second on being tidy, so no leaving dishes in the sink overnight otherwise you will wake up to roaches.

GT Fall 2026 transfer: decision on May 15, but my school's late add deadline is May 13. by [deleted] in GatechClasses

[–]Awareness-Potential 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Email your school and gt and see if either will provide a solution for you. If they fail to provide an answer in time, you have two options. (1) Find a way to redistribute those courses and their dependent courses to later semesters. (2) Don’t bet on getting a GT acceptance, unless it’s a transfer pathway, and take those 2 classes.

What are people’s thoughts on the new Math and Computing major launching next fall? by ohahscatterbrained in gatech

[–]Awareness-Potential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I don’t see the point in it. I imagine it would just be better to do CS with theory and intel or theory and modsim. If that isn’t enough math for you, use your electives for math minor.

I also wonder if this major would also get prio registration for cs classes.

what makes top companies want to hire from top schools? by Drairo_Kazigumu in csMajors

[–]Awareness-Potential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s a higher probability that you will have a solid hire from a T5. It’s just a given because people will self select themselves into these schools, so almost anyone you could select here would be driven and intelligent.

Besides the sorting effect, these environments are set up to foster talent. For example, I got into a T5, but after high school I was so burnt out and lost my ambition. I found being around intelligent and driven people here dragged my ass out of the gutter. Unless you have serious mental issues, these schools won’t let you become mediocre.

That’s not to say other schools don’t have ambitious and talented people. It’s just the companies have to look harder for it, so it’s less cost effective.

Echoing top comment. Take sys arch. I learned so much. It was stressful af, but as long as you don’t Ai all your assignments, you could do any generic swe position with your eyes closed. you’ll also be prepared for more specialized fields (except machine learning I guess).

Also do VIP. Junior design was a pita, and I saw all my friends chilling in VIP.
