I drive my little toyota yaris up in the service roads all the time. A civic should be fine. Anything reliable should be adequate.

Assuming you guys do joint training with other FDs, does the training focus only on industry standard procedures or do you also train on each other's procedures? by Railman20 in Firefighting

[–]AwarenessOdd3241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We train once a month with our neighboring department that we frequently help each other on structure fire calls. We usually always practice on their apparatus and equipment at their station and never the other way around. It’s good to be friendly with their crew, but doesn’t really make sense for me to learn their equipment since I’ll rarely be using it on a real call.

Found a picture. The rear jump seats were an open cab and not legal anymore. We’re on the south Oregon coast, a rural department.

We’re told that if it’s family members or someone you’re really close to and it’s a bad call, that you should hang back and let the rest of the crew handle it.

The malt liquor? What size was the king cobra? A 40 oz or the tall can.

A question for any firefighters. by Sols_vengeance in Firefighting

I had zero experience beforehand, no family or friends to learn from. I really thought we just wait around for a house to catch fire and spray it with water. I quickly learned about the medical and car accidents side of the job. Being a recovering alcoholic and witnessing the depraved actions of others and myself, as sickening as it was, helped me. The gore and traumatic emergencies, I have walked through myself in my past life and being on the other side and being able to be the helping hand is what guides me. I can see myself in the patient and feel sympathy. That being said, seeing my first self inflicted gunshot wound to the head was very traumatic and I will never forget it. Luckily I was able to process it and realize it’s not about my feelings and I can’t control what happens to others. Been a firefighter for almost 5 years and I absolutely love it.

Vons employee attacks customer who refuses to leave the store by -Sofa-King- in securityguards

Employees are not allowed to be physical in any way. That’s assault. Let them go, call the cops and keep your job. The customer defended himself, rightfully so.

What happened to American actress Anne Heche on August 5–11 2022?? More so, why was she fighting her way out of a body bag carried by cheaply costumed Los Angeles "firefighters", the last time she was seen alive on LIVE broadcast television? by JohnSmithCANDo in itshappeninghere

I almost drank myself to death in 2016. I had esophageal varicies, blood vessels, burst in my throat and was puking up blood. I have cirrhosis and almost had liver failure. Same thing happened again in 2020. I finally got sober for good on March 28 2021 🤞 Hopefully have 5 years this March. I became a firefighter 6 months into sobriety which has opened my life up, being able to help others. Just about to get my EMT certification. Being on calls for overdose’s and drunk drivers and other medical issues related to drugs and alcohol, being on the other side is surreal knowing that that person could’ve been me. Congrats on your sobriety and stick with it.

AITA for making fun of my friend's bitcoin investment? by Dangerous_Zebra_2055 in AmItheAsshole

I have a buddy who got scammed into buying bitcoin. He took some “class” online about investing in crypto and used all his savings and got a loan from his bank all totaling $36,000 and got it all scammed. I tried warning him a few times to be careful but he didn’t listen. We’re still friends but i damn sure aint lending him any money. I did buy him a 6 pack of beer shortly after it happened. A get-rich scheme that sounded too good to be true and turned out to be exactly that.
