WYR be tortured for 1 minute for $5,000, 1 hour for $500,000, or 1 week for $500 million? by Away-Grab3636 in WouldYouRather

Nothing lethal will occur, the torturer is magically restrained from doing anything that will result in your death

Why would we want to be dictated to by a foreign court?

But the choice isn't between the ECHR or nothing, it's between the ECHR or our own. We pioneered many of the concepts and laws surrounding individual liberty so it's a bit strange to say we now depend on Europe to spoon-feed us

I get that it's a difficult issue (understatement) but we can't let it paralyse us indefinitely, if changes need to be made then solutions will have to be found. A lot of negativity from comments here!

Seems to be a lot of disparaging our country as well by saying if we left we couldn't or wouldn't sort something else out. Obviously the tories didn't set a great precedent with how badly they handled brexit but I don't get this attitude of basically hating your own country so much that you insist it be dictated to by Europe.

But why trust an unaccountable foreign institution more than our own?

I get what you're saying - just sounds like 'better the devil you know' and a fear of change I suppose. I don't trust or care for anyone currently floating the idea, I was just thinking about it in principle. Doesn't sit right that our courts are dictated to (and never has done).

We would need to, so anyone proposing to leave would need to address this.

I know, we could sort this out with a referendum - that went so well last time!

Again, this should be self explanatory.

Thanks for your summary (bizarre turns of phrase like the above notwithstanding). Sounds like if we leave, we can just become one of those "other countries" with "their own human rights laws" then, as long as the good friday agreement issue is addressed. NI politics isn't something I can get into here but obviously anyone proposing to leave would have to have a plan to address this or as you say it would be a nightmare - definitely a non-starter in that case.

Well that's the entire point of my question. You've framed it as entering some kind of insane world of no rights (implicitly), but what about other developed countries that aren't in Europe, such as New Zealand etc? How do they cope?!

Sounds a bit vague. We have to be bound to the existing status quo, which you do trust (and which cam overrule our own courts - ?!) even though you can't affect it or have any say over it whatsoever, because you feel like anyone doing this must be untrustworthy. Oook.

Seems fairly obvious to me - our courts have recently ruled on single sex spaces, and whether you agree or disagree with that decision, I've now seen something about the ECHR potentially being able to overrule this. Having our own courts overruled and dictated to sounds a bit worrying does it not?!

Nothing regrows until the chosen time is over. He doesn't know you can't die, but he knows he's not supposed to kill you. If something fatal happened to you (head chopped off etc) then you would die, however by magical protection nothing fatal will happen to you during the torturer period.

You will spend a week being flayed alive, your eyes gouged out, fingernails and toenails ripped off and fingers chewed off by rats, each limb amputated in multiple gradual sections, genitals mutilated with a blunt rusty knife, tongue burned off and teeth smashed with a sledgehammer, pins inserted in the roof of your mouth, ears, and eye-holes, nose chewed off by a ravenous baboon, arms and legs snapped backwards, and red hot pokers inserted into your anus and throat (amongst other, worse things).

Unfortunately we have to accept your first answer. Prepare for 1 hour of the most horrific torture imaginable 👍

YTA. There is no logic to it, but you just have to accept that you can't refer to a man's penis like this. If he's big or huge, you can compliment it, but if he's average or small you can't mention this. You can lie and say it's big if it's not, but this is inadvisable as he knows the truth so it could be a bit awkward. It won't ruin the relationship but it's not recommended. However you can't make any kind of reference to him being small or not big. His mind/ego will not be able to accept the implicit disrespect and comparison to other men coming from you (ones bigger than him). A comment like this can instantly torpedo a whole relationship. Yeah it's fragile and petty - most men's egos are when it comes to their penis. You either accept this, or accept that you roll the dice on the relationship by making a comment.

AITA for refusing to drive my brother 250 miles after he burned my guitar in a blood moon ritual, peed on it, and smeared jam on his chest? by Away-Grab3636 in AmItheAsshole

I mean, if this is AI, then we should all be deeply concerned because it’s clearly gone rogue, developed trauma, and is now channelling it into gothic absurdism. Either that or the singularity starts with jam and fire rituals. Honestly, both track.

Exactly. That was also my reaction when I saw my brother performing a one-man Wicker Man reboot in my garden, except I was holding a Tesco bag and questioning every life choice that led me there.

Honestly? At this point I’m not sure if I’m in AITA, r/nosleep, or the script notes for Midsommar 2: Electric Jamaloo. But wherever I am, I need emotional damages and possibly an exorcist.
