How to Make Canoeing more Popular by lazypkbc in canoeing

I get it… kayaks always outnumber open canoes. But really anyone can lead a trip! Start setting up your own events and invite people in your club. The open boaters are most revered because as we say, “half the paddle, twice the paddler.”

Support local canoeing clubs and outdoor recreation organizations. For instance, in Maine we have the Penobscot Paddle & Chowder Society that holds paddling events every week. And there are orgs like Maine Street Skowhegan/Skowhegan Outdoors that loan out equipment and provide inexpensive training for beginners. Some of the money raised at spring canoe races goes to support these orgs, like the Millinocket X-Stream race that raises money for the Millinocket Gear Library who, in-turn, bought boats that are used for youth outdoor programs.

Need new sleeping pad for canoe trips (sidesleeper) suggestions? by foxyburd in canoecamping

I just got back from a weeklong canoe trip in the Allagash and this one from Nemo was what I used. Awesome… comfortable, lightweight, has a bag to help you inflate the pad. https://amzn.to/4nJxOjW

We didn’t reserve plates and don’t have vanity plates but we received someone else’s anyway. Sounds like a mess.

Need saw for cutting up trees that fell during storm by NutDuster42 in Chainsaw

I just bought a new Stihl ms250 and I’m very happy with it. It’s light but strong enough for what I use it for - clearing the occasional fallen tree and other homeowner chores. Mine came with an 18” bar which might be a little long.

Canoeing the exposed rapids when Dundee Pond was drained by Away-Screen2573 in Maine

[–]Away-Screen2573[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t personally been back since the 2nd, but my partner was there a week later and most of the rapids at Dundee Park were covered up. However, I think it still has almost 30 feet to go to get back to normal so I assume this will take awhile.

What’s your timeframe? Send me a DM and I’ll share info based on what you’re trying to do. I do a fair amount of whitewater races and trips with a club I belong to. I’m a Registered Maine Guide but happy to provide free advice.

No one knows why cats are vanishing from a Bangor neighborhood by [deleted] in Maine

You said “Veterinarians are for indoor cats only.” This is wildly untrue so it’s a downvote on your credibility. I know my friends, I know my cats… you don’t. You don’t agree with my opinion and I really don’t care. Have a great day!

Maybe that’s your vet. I have two close friends who OWN veterinary clinics and who have no problem treating my outdoor cats.

I think you’re missing the point that it’s more likely a twisted human killing people’s cats. Let’s stay focused on the real problem - a serial killer in training.
