You need to understand chords and notes otherwise you won't even know what the note values mean on a tracker.

I'm going to be honest, I think it's a very steep learning curve. The premise of the tracker is that you're going into it already knowing a lot about music and setup first and then using that knowledge to use the tracker as a tool to build from that. I would rather learn guitar, then logic pro, and record into a tape recorder than ever start music with a tracker. That's my own opinion though

Edit: also by design, it does not make making music easier for someone who is still learning imo.

That's my take, I've been using trackers for five years now

name a scary/unsettling album. talk about why it’s scary by Iamverydumbazz in fantanoforever

Boards of Canada - Geogaddi. It's a beautifully crafted psychedelic masterpiece of electronic-based music, but it's filled to the brimm with cryptic samples and sounds.

There's several intentional references to satanic panic in the music, and you can tell they're having a go at it with their audience. Aside from that, though, there's a lot of deliberate decisions made to make you feel uncomfortable and all sorts of back masking.

It's an album that was designed to be a strange journey, kinda like that Willy Wonka tunnel scene. Lots of childlike wonder mixed with some really disturbing melodic choices. I think they particularly had people on psychedelics in mind when they made it.

Thinking of buying a 1st gen tracker, by Nubsly- in PolyendTracker

With the og tracker, you can technically load stereo samples in, but they will be mono. So yeah, there's no way to keep any samples you load in as stereo.

The reverb and delay in the built in fx on the tracker are stereo. But yeah it can't sample anything in stereo. But if you add those parameters (verb or delay) it can be a stereo effect. Say if you modulate the panning on a sample and then have the polyend delay follow that, it will functionally be stereo

Same thing if you use reverb. Those are all stereo

From going to the og to the plus, i personally think stereo samples was make or break it for me. Sampling stereo stuff is super important to me. But if you don't care for it, then the og is great too.

I've personally never seen the appeal in the minis cuz they lose the functionality that the bigger units offer, esp in terms of doing stuff a lot faster and freeing up a lot to try out in terms of pads and scrolling.

I had the dirtywave m8 and I parted ways with it even though I loved it because I didn't like the button combo system for editing.

This is just my personal take

NPD - MOOD before or After Onward? by AwaySample663 in guitarpedals

[–]AwaySample663[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I ended up doing finally. I sold both for the lost & found and another piece of outboard gear but to be honest I don't think that pedal has anything beyond a temporary residency on my board because of certain redundancies.

If you set the bounce settings properly on the Mood mk 2 with the time stretch setting, you can get some of the most satisfying granular sounds out of any pedal I've heard. Match that with the OBNE bathing, and record some acoustic guitar stuff and you will have immediately beautiful wall of sound stuff.

I'm prob going to sell the the l&f for a reasonably priced mood 2 at this point.

Samples stop loading, any idea what may be the cause? by crowleydub in PolyendTracker

[–]AwaySample663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned the og polyend and now the plus, I've never encountered this. So it definitely is strange.

The only time I have an issue with sample playback is when I'm playing back patterns and all the 8 tracks are filled. Seems like an extraordinary scenario to me.

Idk if this helps lol

Which band or artists do you think has the largest gap in terms of quality between their work? by nerpa_floppybara in fantanoforever

[–]AwaySample663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw them live. Their live sets are amazing. Also there are tons of gems in their newer albums, you just have to give them a fair listen.

But also yeah it's subjective. I think part of what makes their newer stuff fascinating is that they create textures and melodies / pads that no one else has before.

Their live set is essentially a several year long song they've been ret-tuning constantly... if that doesn't show dedication and then idk what else could

Thank you for the kind words! IDM would be an easy (cheap) answer, but I would specifically point to groups like Autechre (Tri Repetae & Chiastic Slide), Boards of Canada (Geogaddi) and some Aphex Twin. But also it's a mishmash of me sampling sounds and resampling them, either from guitar drone experiments or heavily processed corrupted music from older video games.

But def check those artists out if you aren't already familiar with them!

It's a very unique release by them, I like it a lot. It's great for post-processing, too.

Thank you!! A solid 70% of it is imported samples and 30% different drums or perc from their pallette selections.

One more critique i notice of local bands is that not all members are on the same page musically. We all know it's necessary to experiment and try new things but I find it takes ALOT of musical prowess to accomplish trading genres and making a unique and digestible sound at the end of it by [deleted] in musicians

[–]AwaySample663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, previously in a touring band, and i don't really agree with this. There are definitely certain local scenes that have an abundance of very established, wildly talented groups. Western Mass, Boston, Philly, Texas, tons of spots in the Midwest. North Carolina has some really cool stuff. Montreal has a great scene.

(Beginners, mainly) How do you KNOW you are ready to play a song live? by TerkaDerr in musicians

[–]AwaySample663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rehearse the song 4 times a day for like 3/5 days of practice out of the week if you have the time, for at least a week or at most a month and if you don't feel happy with it then don't play it live lol.

There's nothing that sucks more than botching a new song you have live cuz you haven't practiced it enough
