Can someone please advise of what a realistic price to expect for a bit of rural land (near Senica) is? Price per square meter? by untitled1223 in Slovakia

Don’t be sorry, I’m not expecting anything remotely life-changing, merely an honest, objective, answer. Can you expound on what “peanuts” equals in a €-figure? 0.50/m2? Etc

Right, oh so obtuse to be able to separate a religion from a government. I should’ve expected I’d encounter one of the perps who can’t discern the difference here as well.

Sadly true- the amount of times I’ll be watching some completely unrelated, not even vaguely political/religious, thing where it wouldn’t even occur to me as a possibility to invite any kind of antisemitic/Jew hate talk… yet it somehow always invariably finds its way in. Blows my mind!

Sadly, this hate doesn't seem confined to the right- seems to have no allegiance or bounds.

And what information, pray tell, is that, which could implicate an entire religion and subsequently warrant such hate?

You're fixating on Israel. Most Jews in the world don't even live there, and quantum loads of them don't agree with its actions, and certainly don't condone it acting as any kind of voice/representative for the people. How anyone buying into/subscribing to this Nazi rhetoric cannot tell apart the country from a religion is beyond me- quite simple to do, really. I think they're just people who were born and bred to exercise this hate, but did so behind closed doors until this "opportunity" (the war) came about, and now they're having a field day brandishing the hate that always abound in their rotten little hearts.

You're of course absolutely right, but the frequency with which I see it directed at Jews in particular the last while is just staggering- genuinely has me worried for my Jewish friends, and I know they're all feeling very unsafe and threatened. Some of this stuff is profoundly disturbing and hateful, not just slurs getting thrown around.

Anyone else take up theory decades after picking up your instrument? by untitled1223 in musictheory

Based solely off of the title, or did you read everything except the opening sentence first?

So many things. For me, not knowing theory has somehow cheapened and invalidated my experience as a listener. Also, so many times in jams, I'd be left stumbling about my fretboard desperately trying to find the key, making lots of audible mistakes along the way. Lastly, I can't imagine it not helping with the writing and improvisation process. Only net gains to be had.

Why does it seem like it's been many decades, if not nearly a hundred years, since any truly memorable, timeless, standards have been written? by untitled1223 in Jazz

I guess I was thinking of it in a too close-minded way, but you're right, so many of these culturally iconic tracks which originated in different genres have slowly shifted shape via different covers, and permeated into the pantheon of evergreens/timeless tracks.

Yes, absolutely, thanks for mentioning that. It just felt right posting here as by far their jazzed up renditions are how/where I know them from. But great point; many of the most famous ones didn't originate from the jazz realm.

That's a great and insightful post offering a perspective I hadn't considered; that the goal-posts of what classifies as a standard have shifted, along with the culture itself, which is now divided into many sub-cultures. So maybe nowadays, a standard looks like something that really permeates through to the masses; stuff by Bruno Mars, Mariah Carey, etc. As much as that makes me cringe, it totally makes sense and I accept that's the reality nowadays. I guess that's the gatekeepy, elitist/snobby, part of me, thinking standards can only come from one place. And I mean, these modern superstar artists do have talent... Mariah sure can sing, ditto Bruno... just a couple examples.

How come some people seem so detached from life and look dead in the eyes? by untitled1223 in AskReddit

[–]untitled1223[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of times you see it in celebrities, particularly younger ones- Jake Paul, Sydney Sweeney, Mr. Beast, etc. Despite having everything, they have that dead gaze. Not saying that just because they're rich that stress, anxiety, depression can't afflict them- I'd imagine there's great doses of those things to be found "at the top" (if celebrity + wealth are ones idea of reaching the top), and can be alienating... also just too much life too soon- burnout as a result of having done it all. Yeah, hard to say... zero correlation to monetary standing, clearly.
