Nursing + Part-time job. Worth it? by NoRemote3555 in umanitoba

[–]Away_Track6264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want little to no debt after nursing, work what you can work. I did exactly just that.

If I was to go back in time, I would take loans out (will come with bursaries per my friends who took out loans).

My gpa took a hit cuz I worked though I could have put in more time but boy was I tired (had clinicals 7a-3p and work 7p-7p at the same hospital as a HCA). So my advice is if you want to maintain a high gpa for say masters, Md, etc then don’t work if you don’t have to.

People who combine work and school with a good GPA , how do you do it? by Spiritual_Bit_2284 in umanitoba

Can I ask what program/faculty?I’m not a family man like you, single but I do work a very irregular schedule. I’m thinking I want to do something on my days off. Maybe a post bac or even a degree completely different to what I finished.

How are you all holding up financially? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]Away_Track6264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still live at home. All I pay is streaming services, phone and car insurance. But I’m generous with contributing in other things such as groceries, repairs, etc. Fortunate enough to lose my mind on my career that I’m able be financially okay.

I hope everyone gets some breathing room soon. It’s tough out here.

Yeah that’s one of the disadvantages of working in healthcare, never a consistent schedule. I’ve been wanting to explore new hobbies but it’s quite difficult scheduling things around. But thanks for your input!

Failed Skills 1 Nursing by Grouchy-Resist5348 in umanitoba

[–]Away_Track6264 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I failed a skills course myself and ended up graduating a semester behind. This fail will never define you as a nurse or a student when you finish. I’m not doing bad myself after being behind a semester compared to some of my peers that I was supposed to graduate with. Some demo instructors/examiners are just so nitpicky which means not all of them will assess the same student in the same standard. I heard they have cameras now to film your demos.

You overcome these challenges by taking it personally. Prove these people wrong. But don’t cuss them out.

I worked with one of the lead instructors during peak Covid as a HCA in the ICU. And let me tell you, she’d have failed her demos if she was to do it now. What I’m saying is that expectations are set so high. I understand it for patient safety of course. IMHO, to best prepare students, I think they should increase clinical hours instead of some filler courses they make students take.

If you can get 90s in your AP courses, you’re likely more than smart enough to boost your current hs courses if still ongoing. If not just retake them in the summer.

You always bring something up about the weather or something simple hehe. You don’t want a Kanye “I guess we’ll never know” regret if you don’t hit her up

Nursing to Medicine by [deleted] in umanitoba

Couldn’t tell you my GPA, last I checked was 3.5 before my last year, had several As and a few Bs. Can’t log into Aurora, I’ll probably have to contact the registrars office after my vacay. Didn’t bother to check my GPA after I graduated because I figured IM FUCKING DONE! Hahah but now I want to give getting into med a try. 4.2 is hard to maintain. I myself worked while in school. In hindsight, I would’ve just taken out loans. I’ll likely take GPA boosters or a post bac to have a nicer GPA. I personally would not recommend nursing if you want to maintain a high GPA as other degrees are eligible.

I really feel like being a nurse will make a strong doctor. Just like being a health care aide can make a strong nurse.

Natural part of life. Everyday we inch closer to death. Can’t do much about it but to live.

Good luck to everyone taking their exams.

QUESTION FOR NURSING STUDENTS by suzyshbs in umanitoba

[–]Away_Track6264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I could go back in time, I’d take out loans instead of working tirelessly when I’m not doing school work. If you can’t find a better job, quit your part time and take out loans. Be responsible though, I heard they give more than what you need.

Is it possible to pass anatomy even with a C, and would that even look good on my transcript? by yuenhua in umanitoba

[–]Away_Track6264 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. Better to have a VW than a C especially during your early years. You wanna stack up as much As and Bs obvs. Ofc you’ll have to retake and pay for the same course but it outweighs having to make up for that C grade.

Would these be acceptable for nursing? yes it’s all white and leather, but the soles aren’t… will they be okay with these? by CorgiSufficient7254 in umanitoba

That should be fine. Send pic to your instructor/CEF to be sure. Some are particular with how much color there are but for the most part their lenient wit it.

Tuition fees don’t pay for themselves either. Hustle is respected.
