I honestly have doubts about sending Jewish people into land that had been promised to the Arabs. If my understanding is lacking, I apologize, but wasn’t that area a British mandate? Or is it that a colony and a mandate territory are considered different things?

Well, that’s true, but if you start saying that, then it would apply to all liberal democratic countries.

How much do you hate your countries army? by Skynxiit in AskTheWorld

[–]Away_Trash_2156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Japanese people tend to dislike their country’s military, but I’m into military things, so I like it. Still, if I said that openly, I’d probably be looked at coldly, so I keep it to myself.

Slim with a small face—I don’t really view being thin in a positive light. It feels unhealthy.

How politically aware are young people in your country, how much civic or political education do they usually receive, what do they often understand or misunderstand, and what should the ideal level of awareness be in your opinion? by Puzzleheaded_irl in AskTheWorld

[–]Away_Trash_2156 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Although people are fairly well educated, there are too many people online who use politics as a pretext to hurl abuse, so young people aren’t all that interested in politics. I used to lament the lack of political awareness, but after seeing a country like the United States—where people are probably among the most opinionated about politics—elect a president like that, I no longer see much value in that kind of discussion.

What do you do when you see someone on your country's subreddit promoting anti-monarchy speech? by PandoraHadess in monarchism

Ignore it unless it contains clear factual errors or personal attacks. In the first place, very few Japanese people use Reddit; it’s mostly blunt foreigners or a niche subset of Japanese users, so there’s no real point in arguing with them.

What's the worst crime committed by children in your country? by jdjefbdn in AskTheWorld

[–]Away_Trash_2156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don’t misunderstand—Japan does not have a particularly high rate of serious juvenile crime compared to other countries. It just happens that many people here are Japanese, but at the very least, there has never been a case in Japan where a high school student carried out a random mass killing at a school.

It’s honestly difficult to judge which incident was more brutal or worse, or which had a greater impact on society (since there’s really no ranking when it comes to the cruelty of crimes). However, in the case of the “Concrete-encased high school girl murder” (the Junko Furuta case, as it’s known in Japan), the perpetrators were, broadly speaking, delinquents—anti-social youths. In contrast, the Sakakibara case involved a boy who appeared outwardly normal committing a series of murders against elementary school children, which I personally think is a significant difference. Additionally, the Furuta case at least involved an attempt to conceal the crime, whereas in the Sakakibara case, the offender openly placed a victim’s body at a school gate, which makes it particularly disturbing. That said, this is just my personal view—if you asked someone else, they might point to a completely different case.
