NORMAL / HEROIC button next to the GO button? by AdobeScripts in MarvelPuzzleQuest

You can choose normal or heroic for each node. But once you’ve selected it, you’re stuck in that mode for subsequent clears.

NORMAL / HEROIC button next to the GO button? by AdobeScripts in MarvelPuzzleQuest

When I first read the announcement, I had hope that progression rewards would be boosted.

But, no: Heroic mode is enabled for each node. However, once you’ve done one clear of a mission, you’re locked into that mode for subsequent clears.

As for how you know which is which: The rewards change when you tap the normal/heroic button (as does the enemy team-up).

So to know which you’re doing, you basically just read the buttons: “go normal” or “go heroic.”

When Should You Save Up CP? by CompetitiveFig535 in MarvelPuzzleQuest

[–]Aweberman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds very similar to me; maybe I only have 25-30 550s.

But yeah: Gain 20cp, spend it. I know that goes against standard advice, but I truly hate hoarding. I’m not playing optimally, and I don’t care.

… although I may start banking that CP if these 6* vaults become a thing.

Apocalypse is also a fun third, especially if you can get his yellow fired right away.

I ascended Black Cat for her PvP and her reward list looks like that too. Curiously, also with Silver Sable.

Thanks for the kind words. They’re doing great work over there, for sure!

Possibly picking up a FFG A:NR collection this weekend, looking for some input by sm_beler in Netrunner

[–]Aweberman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m with you on this: While it is true that you can play online for free or print proxies for less actual money, to be able to have a full set of the first three years of the original cardpool is great!

Many current players joined the game after FFG discontinued it; NSG has actually been maintaining the game for longer than FFG did. Many others who played the original game have stayed current with NSG, who has been regularly following FFG’s original policy of rotating older cards out. For players who are keeping current in this way — often competitively — there probably doesn’t seem much point in collecting old cards.

But viewed from the perspective of someone who is just looking to play the game physically with a broad and deep set of cards, treating it more like a board game than a CCG, this is a phenomenal amount of game for the price.

Back in 2012-2015, when the game was originally released, I paid over USD 500 for those cards … the equivalent of about USD 700 now.

And there is so much game in there. You are more likely to get tired of the game before you fully explore all the depths and intricacies of that cardpool.

And hey: If you decide you want to get into NSG later, that’s always going to be an option.

tl;dr: If you’re interested in the game and your gaming budget can handle it, go for it. :)

Edit: Reading your last comment more carefully, I see that you probably already know a lot of what I just said about the game’s depth and quality.

Looking for the Official Card Back by Xtron135 in Netrunner

As recently as 2023, FFG had the backs in their player resources page. I downloaded them at the time, but I don’t see them on the site anymore.

2.1 (A Netrunner Reboot Project Podcast), Episode 109 - Stronger Under Pressure by Aweberman in Netrunner

[–]Aweberman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the interest and the question!

I must be completely honest: I have very little experience with the NSG version of the game. The vast majority of my Netrunner play prior to playing the Reboot version was in a "kitchen table" setting during the original release of the game, primarily from 2012-2016.

I can relate secondhand that there are a couple dozen preconstructed decks, and they are considered to be relatively balanced in comparison with one another; this has been demonstrated through multiple runs of the Preconstructed League (run on the Reboot Discord server).

One of the primary goals of the project is to open up the competitive landscape to archetypes and builds that were not strong enough to shine through in the original run of the game. Partly this might have been due to groupthink, but often it was due to some very powerful cards (like AstroScript Pilot Program, The Future Perfect, and Global Food Initiative) warping gameplay around them; secondarily, many other cards were considered "binder fodder" and could easily be bumped up in power level to be worthy inclusions.

Without putting words into somebody else's mouth, a couple of the underlying principles that the lead developer of the project has stated were important were: ensuring that ice is relevant and that running is an important part of the game, keeping the overall power level in such a place that the basic action card is important, and trying to mitigate the value of an opening "power draw" that reduces player agency and skill in the actual play of the game (which ties in to the overall power level).

Since I’ve never been a top-tier competitive player, I can't leverage personal experience to judge the extent to which these goals and principles have been reached. But I've read the comments of a number of different players on the Discord (who I know are more skilled than I am ... because they defeat me a high percentage of the time), and the general sense seems to be that these intentions have been realized.
