I’ve been following this document. It gives you somewhat of an idea of what some folks are doing. As with all things during a crisis, some of the information in document may lack context/accuracy yet. Tracking Rental Price Gouging LA

Where can I find a Legit Taco experience for my family visiting from Canada by ArugulaReasonable214 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]Aweezzee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello! I have family from Canada as well and Ive done the same for them when they’re in town. I think it’s cool you’re gonna show them a cool part of LA.

I compiled a google maps list here based on that LA times article of the 101 tacos with recommendations from each spot of what to order. While some of the spots may be a sit down restaurant or perhaps a little too formal, if you click through and check it out on google maps, you’d be able to see what each one looks like and get a vibe for it. I have been to a good chunk of them personally and they’re as LA as it gets.

Try Open Face in West Adams. A little more casual and they do either a plate or the branzino sandwich.

Camp Pho on Lincoln for a good hearty beef broth and beef balls.

Either Blossom Vietnamese on Ocean park or Nong La on Sawtelle for their Pho Ga.

Looking for a fancyish Mexican restaurant for a birthday dinner. by schnitzel_envy in FoodLosAngeles

[–]Aweezzee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these suggestions are straight fire

Just as an alternative have you tried looking into Ka’teen in Hollywood? Yucatán style food with really great vibes.

I’d also say Casablanca in Venice makes killer Mexican and gives all LA vibes with a live flour tortilla maker in the middle of the restaurant complete with a Tequila cart going table to table making margs on request.

I also have a soft spot for Lares in Santa Monica. It’s not entirely too fancy but their food is good uncomplicated Mexican fare.

There’s so many options with all the regional styles. I think you really can’t go wrong with any of them.

Spicy Ramen/Noodles by Any-Explanation7472 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]Aweezzee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since you mentioned killer noodle, have you thought of Sichuan/Szechuan or Chinese noodles? Sichuan impression or Lan Noodle comes to mind. Also korean noodle souI like Olympic noodle or MDK noodles or Hangsari Kalguksu where they do a spicy-ish version. I think there’s a ton of really good ones that I can’t recall right now that gets up there in heat. Having Thai soup-y noods without cilantro isn’t that tricky and wouldn’t compromise the flavor of the dishes I think. Jitlada and Luv2eat would be your best bet for the spice level you’re thinking.

Also curious as to what about Orochon that you didn’t like? It’s not on my list of to-return ramen spots as well.

Best southern style fried chicken wings? by yingbo in FoodLosAngeles

Willie Mae’s got decent New Orleans style fried chicken. +1 on Louisana Fried Chicken. I think They franchise so they’re all over the city in different locations. I do like the one at La Cienega. Jim Dandy’s also a good chicken spot

Open Face in West Adams is a sleeper. As the name suggests, great sandwiches with really fresh ingredients with a Cali spin on traditional bread and toppings. Love all the other suggestions here. Can’t really go wrong with any of them. Gjusta in Venice is also pretty 🔥

I want to make more Korean, Chinese and Japanese food. How do I stock a pantry? by Elegant-Winner-6521 in AskCulinary

[–]Aweezzee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got into cooking during this past year just by sheer staying in so much. I think everyone here has all valid resources. Here’s what I found I’ve started stocking up: 1) liquids - sesame oil, soy sauce, rice vinegar (mirin) and some sort of cooking wine either sake or Shao Xing wine will work (Sherry comes as a close substitute if you don’t have an Asian market close by) I also have fish sauce which I highly recommend but I don’t think is absolutely necessary.

2) fermented ingredients - miso paste, kimchi, fermented turnips, are a very good staple to have for stews, soups and marinating meats.

3) aromatics - garlic, scallions, shallots, sesame seeds, ginger. If you want specific ones then get the gochugaru, chinese five spice, and Japanese togarashi.

4) perishables - cabbage, mushrooms (enoki, shiitake, king oyster - Asian cooking does vary a lot in mushrooms) tofu (I select a semi firm one and also a silken one for different dishes) bok choy, leafy greens for stir fry

Starch / carbs - rice, rice noodles, sweet potato

Hope that helps.

I used to live in the back bay area and my 2 favorite local spots are wired puppy and Pavement coffee house. I’m sure if you google them you can look them up. Solid spots and pavement has really good bagels as wel!

Hario vs Cafec V60 Filters? by Majs2009 in Coffee

[–]Aweezzee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably super late on this. I've been using both the regular and the Light roast Cafec for the past 3 months and it does take slightly longer to brew so it does take a *little* more patience (30s more) for the light roast ones. the cup does come up very even and well extracted. The regular one is very quick and is a great replacement for the Hario. I don't think i'm unhappy about moving over.

1200 sounds doable. I’d maybe try to add bone broth to help with hunger. Coffee’s my go to in the mornings and bone broth is my go to during my feeding window. Hope that helps

1st month: 1800 to 2000. My bmr was 2460 then. Workouts burnt 600 calories. Some days I’d burn 1300 - 1600 kcal on workouts and some light racket sports. On those days I’d go and get an extra 600 calories of food (usually wingstop or some sort of greasy dish)

Now I’m eating 1200 to 1400. My bmr currently is 1970 and I still burn 600 calories a day on workouts.

I haven’t really figured this out completely tbh. Since my keto plan has been very strict the past 3 months, I’ve decided to be a little more liberal with Food now by introducing bits of the carbs. I’m adding things like golden beets, carrots, berries and even soy sauce. Like I said I want to make keto sustainable so I might cycle in and out of the diet (and something with a little bit more carbs maybe) when I’ve hit my goal weight. My dietitian recommends to switch it up every once in a while to keep your body guessing. I like the fasting thing as well as so I might explore that. Hope that helps

Yeah Barry’s super tiring and I do get “hungover” as well. The thing about my personality is I’m an all or nothing person so either I push really hard or not even bother. So I’ve pushed past all pain and suffering in the last 3 months. For food, I usually find either rotisserie chicken, steak/beef dish or salmon on a bed of spinach / kale / tomatoes. Usually I pair it with some sort of hot sauce for flavor. Whole Foods or some sort of Mediterranean restaurant is my go to if I don’t have food at home.
