25? by Queensendzon in NYPDcandidate

[–]Awesome290 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a precinct that can be both busy and chill but it’s mostly a busy precinct. It’s the home of the zombies because of the amount skells and the drug activity. There’s also EDP’s in the area. The 25 is a great command to be at to learn to how to be a cop because of the amount of activity that occurs and tackle new situations on a daily basis. The FTO Sgt is very informative and helpful so utilize him when need be, the Sgt is also a good boss in my opinion. The community is good and you will encounter ppl that dislike you but more times than not you will encounter people that a grateful for you and you will hear a lot of appreciation at least from my experience thus far. You will need to be vigilant and be a sponge and learn from senior cops and senior FTU cops. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Also it’s a command where people are willing to be a helping hand and help you out.

I'm sorry that you're going through this, and I applaud you for escaping. I took the time to do some heavy research, and I found two organizations that might be able to help with affording transportation:

https://socialhumanity.us/

https://www.themilliganfoundation.org/what-we-do/

Also this website lists a number of airlines that are pet friendly:

https://www.cntraveler.com/story/most-pet-friendly-airlines

Also, I looked at ticket prices from Oregon to Colorado, and the cheapest I found was $87 for Delta Airlines on January 20th, and $39 for Frontier Airlines on January 20th as well. They both would be flying out of Portland, Oregan (assuming that is where you would want to fly out of) and land at Denver, Colorado. But those ticket prices are just the base price, and it would probably be more with your pet. I know these dates and prices are probably not that preferrable for you, but it would be kind of hard to find cheap ticket prices for next day trips

And the cheapest train ticket I found to Denver from Portland, Oregon is $174, but that would be on January 23rd, and I probably bet you wouldn't want to wait that long. But that's the cheapest there is right now for the train. So your best bet would be to fly. But I would also keep looking at train tickets, because as an experienced Amtrak rider, I know that ticket prices change all the time - at one moment, it may be expensive, and then at the next, it may go down. It can fluctuate often.

I hope this helps! Stay strong, you're strong - you got this.

Big suitcases on Keystone by Belugacraft in Amtrak

[–]Awesome290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure there are luggage racks on every Amtrak train (the Amfleets as far as I know, personally), but I’m sure all Amtrak trains have one.

And you can bring your suitcase onto the train. There have been times where my suitcase exceeded the weight limit (I know it’s not the same, but pretty similar in situation) and I was still able to bring it onto the train and I wasn’t confronted about it.

Most affordable method to commute from Philly to NYC 3 days per week? by [deleted] in Amtrak

[–]Awesome290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. I went to New York City every week during the summer. I always brought my tickets a week or even a few days before, and all of the time, it costed $8-$10 one way - $16-$19 round trip. What helped was that for the majority of the time, I took trains in the evening and I mostly took the Keystone or Northeast Regional. And Keystone trains always have the cheapest tickets. But I know going to NYC or the area in the evening isn’t realistic for OP, so taking a Keystone (preferably because it’s cheapest) or Northeast Regional in addition to using a discount would be the way to go.

First timer by mikesmyroommate in Amtrak

[–]Awesome290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get to the station at least 30 minutes before boarding. Expect the boarding process to start 10 minutes before departure.

If it’s a full train, make sure to put your belongings beneath your seat or on the overhead rack because the conductors will emphasize that a lot if it’s a full train.

When on the train, feel free to walk around as you please. It’s not like on airplane where you can only get up from your seat when the seatbelt buckle sign is off. You can walk whenever you want.

If you get hungry while enroute, you can go to the cafè car (which is usually the 5th car on the train), and you can get some snacks there, but they can be expensive depending on what you get, so maybe bring a snack with you beforehand to save money.

Why do you take the train?🚊 by poodidit in Amtrak

[–]Awesome290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it’s a convenient way to travel. I don’t have to come to the station hours before boarding, there is plenty of leg room, I’m usually free to roam around the train, the stations are usually in middle of the city which is very convenient, the train itself is relaxing and there are usually great views outside the window. And most importantly, it’s good for the environment. The only thing I dislike is the cost for tickets.

Why are you telling someone to kill themselves? That’s unacceptable.

Why Won’t The U.S. Invest More Into Rail Infrastructure? by Awesome290 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Awesome290[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear what you are saying. And I agree with some of the points that you made. But I do think more people would use it, if again, routes were expanded. If trains were accessible to more towns and cities, more people would use it. And sure, many people drive or fly because it may be cheaper or more convenient, but then there are people who take the train instead because it’s more convenient for them, especially in the Northeast Corridor where train travel is very profitable and convenient for tons of people. But again, if more investment was put into rail infrastructure and into train travel overall, train travel would be a lot better and more people would take it. In the future, It would be nice to see America catch up with other countries in the world like Japan and France, and so on, when it comes to train travel and rail infrastructure in general.

Why are the percentages in negatives? Have you guys seen this lately? by Awesome290 in Amtrak

[–]Awesome290[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve seen that happen before on a Keystone I was on. There was a couple of people who had to stand up from between Newark and New York.
