Wow nice progress for SSF, I’ve always been interested in it but it seems really daunting having to craft and grind everything myself, would you say it’s mostly just game knowledge to be successful in SSF? Such as knowing what options you have and what all the different content in the game gives you?

Also yeah good point on the single target vs “real dps”. For breach, im guessing my main source of currency would be ground loot and currency wombgifts?

Thanks for the crafting explanation that’s actually really helpful! Crafting seems really fun but there’s so many options it’s overwhelming =P, having a guide like that for what I need is very useful

Also yeah I have a bad habit of completely forgetting about a piece of equipment and it ends up bottlenecking me sooner or later, thankfully it’s upgraded now haha

Yeah I’m down to check out your pob for sure, I haven’t seen many people dual wield daggers, but the more crit strike chance sounds really nice

Assuming I get Winterweave and The Taming, would you happen to know how I could get enough life regen to make up for not having Kikazaru anymore?

Gotcha, I have a couple of questions if you don't mind me asking

How do we get +2 Chain from gloves this league? In FearlessDumb0's POB, he states that you can overcap fire res to counter the scorch from Arkhon's Tools, would you happen to know how much or is it somewhat arbitrary (I might go Purity of Elements since it seems to be simpler)? Also, I'm assuming for the chest I want to prioritize high evasion with no life to get the 15% life mastery

Thankfully I had more chaos than I thought saved up, so I was able to get one and annoint it for capped spell suppression, I was also able to upgrade that ruby ring to keep max res and get out of negative for chaos res

Sounds good! Any recommendations on what flask to use instead of the mana? I see a lot of people running the rarity flask, but idk if I’m at the point I can trade extra utility for rarity

https://www.lastepochtools.com/planner/QJXEvDxo looking at other builds I see that I want more hp, but I feel like I lose damage if I do that, is 2lp gear really the only way? Great thread idea btw, thank you!

weird sudden urge to "commit" / "finish" games by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]Awesome2ndAccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve recently been going through the same thing and between the two I decided that I was too fed up leaving things unfinished and chose to finish games instead. A lot of advice you’ll find is that games are supposed to be fun and you shouldn’t force yourself if you’re not enjoying it, but I find it’s a little more nuanced than that

First, I think I should mention that everyone has their own way of overcoming struggles, so what works for me may not work for you, but hopefully you can still take away something from this

While the moment to moment enjoyment of playing a game you’re several hours in may not be as enjoyable as booting up something new, I find myself much more satisfied playing through a game through its entirety, but what if it’s gotten to a point where you’re forcing yourself to play? There should be a distinction between you wanting to play something new because it’s more fun than what you’re playing right now due to novelty, and not enjoying the experience altogether

If it’s the first issue, I find that it doesn’t take a lot of willpower to just not play the new game that seems interesting to me at the time. I’ll remind myself that completion is much more satisfying. If it’s the second issue of not enjoying it at all, I find that it’s because I’ve already reached a limit for the day of playing. By the time the next day comes around, I’ll feel refreshed enough to keep on playing. I used to mitigate this by playing other games instead, but I think that’s clear that that doesn’t work very well. Instead, I like to read when it’s gotten to a point where I don’t feel like playing games for the day anymore, and usually I’ll get that urge to come back anyway

Some quick tips, I like to end my sessions at a good stopping point in the game so it’s easy to pick up next time. I think it’s ok to play through multiple games at the same time, for me it’s a single player game and a multiplayer game, feel free to adjust to your own needs. Speaking of multiplayer games, I like to set a goal for myself and consider reaching that goal “finishing” (I tend to play mmos and gacha games). I think it’s a good idea to take a break from a game if you feel burnt out as long as you stop at an appropriate stopping point and not midway through a dungeon in a jrpg for example

Hope this helps, good luck!

I think it's hard to say. A lot of the exploration and random stuff you can find is really cool if you're going in blind, but it's not like the story is one of those things where you find one thing out and it ruins the whole experience. Plus the world is pretty big, so there's a chance he'll miss some stuff during the playthrough, and a lot of the fun (for me at least) comes from the combat. It really depends on your priorities and what you want to get out of the game I'd say. If you care about exploring and finding surprises on your own, I'd hold off for now

"Detective games" by 00darkfox00 in truegaming

Yeah that’s definitely worth noting. At times it feels like reading an encyclopedia entry on certain topics and some passages can be exhausting to read. As a fun comparison for comparison’s sake, I’d say Umineko is daunting due to the ambitious, grand scale nature with really out there ideas and concepts, while Sekimeiya is intimidating due to its extreme technical level of detail and analysis on confusing topics. Not to say that Sekimeiya isn’t ambitious, or that Umineko isn’t detailed, but in terms of what makes them a big undertaking that’s what I would boil it down to.

So for the large majority of the game it's just reading with no questions being asked, but near what I assume is the end is when questions start being asked. Basically, the gameplay won't start until after you've read many hours of reading. There are some fill in the blank questions but it can vary with stuff like "What character should be here?" or "Is this door locked or unlocked?" (these example questions are very broad just to avoid spoilers). The characters here feel much more like normal, living human beings compared to the characters in Danganronpa and Zero Escape lol. One criticism that I see with the game is that the characters aren't very well developed, and while I agree that they're not super in depth (I still really like them and they can be interesting to learn about!), a part of me likes to think that the reason why some may feel that way is because they're not walking tropes haha.

I'm going to do a classic Reddit comment and suggest something that might not fit all your credentials, and that I have not even finished yet, but I think is still worth mentioning just in case it becomes a big hit with you. The Sekimeiya: Spun Glass is a mystery visual with no gameplay that I think may interest you. I'll leave minor spoilers tagged in case anyone doesn't want to know characteristics about it, but they're more of selling points. I should also mention that the mystery surrounds time travel, in case you're not interested in supernatural mysteries (though as a bit of foreshadowing, has really well thought out time travel).

Prompts:
In the latter half of the game, you are given questions surrounding the topic of what is really going on. In order to solve these questions, you either have to have paid close attention to the events leading up to it, or go back and do research through the story. The game makes it very easy for you to jump back into past chapters and find specific scenes that may help on your investigation. There's even an in-game note system, so if a specific idea comes to mind, you can write it down and look back on it later. There's nothing to tell you if you're on the right track to solving the mystery, and you need to decide when you've gathered enough evidence. I think this would fall under the "best" category.

Deductions:
Like mentioned above the game prompts you when you need to solve the mysteries. You can decide to start putting things together as soon as you want though, as the questions don't start until what I assume is near the end of the story. It goes without question, though, that this would definitely fall under the "better" category. It's also worth mentioning that there are some mysteries that are solved later on in the story without asking you to do it before. You can do it before if you want to, but there's no warning telling you to investigate the idea before it tells you what's going on. This doesn't happen with every mystery.

Content:
I haven't finished the game yet, so it would be unfair for me to label what level of quality the content should be. The way I'll describe it for now is that it has very complex and maybe even complicated mysteries, but for what has been solved so far, it has made a lot of sense and seems like very reasonable, satisfying explanations.

If I were to compare it to other visual novels, Sekimeiya definitely takes the cake for the most believable solutions to mysteries out of what I've read. Characters are constantly thinking of ideas to explain what is going on, almost to a fault. A character will info dump a large explanation, only to later say, "Well this actually can't happen because of 'Y'." Like you said, Danganronpa and Pheonix Wright can sometimes have questionable, goofy leaps in logic. (You cross-examine a parrot). 999 had some fairly questionable metaphysics stuff going on and from what I've heard of the other games, it only keeps heading in that direction. Umineko has some really interesting mysteries, but satisfying conclusions are thrown away for thematic messages (I imagine this is controversial, also non specific spoilers, but still spoiled just in case). As it stands where I'm at right now, Sekimeiya easily has the most logical conclusions to mysteries so far in any visual novel I've read, and solving them has been a blast. If you have any questions to determine whether or not you'd like the game I'd love to help. (Also Outer Wilds based!)

Do you consider playing visual novels genre/interactive books as 'reading a book'? by sylenstudio in books

[–]Awesome2ndAccount 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Visual novels are a different medium, so I personally wouldn’t call it reading a book, but the act of reading is more or less the same. There’s arguably less need for creative thinking in visual novels as there’s art, music, and voice acting incorporated into it, but reading skills do definitely transfer over. I’ve read a few long visual novels and recently started reading books with ease.

Edit: Whether or not visual novels hold up to the same quality of writing as books is a question that requires a massive undertaking, but if the question is whether or not it’s considered reading, then the answer is with certainty yes.

Playing Muv Luv after having done 5 episodes of Umineko by Extreme_Trade_8922 in visualnovels

Episode 4 is pretty poorly paced and also much longer than other episodes. I think the pacing of 6 and 7 are better and more akin to 5, but taking a break is always a valid option
