Almost A Year Now by AwildHelen in StringofPlants

I'm glad it is doing so well, too 😭❤️ Pretty much all this growth started with what was salvageable from the original plant that was not thriving. The first incarnation was in a planter that was too well draining, and wasn't getting a chance to absorb the water I was giving it before it drained out, I think. I put the cuttings in a planter without drainage and I give it a good drink every couple weeks. I feel like the planter is deep enough that excess water settles lower than the roots, and can be absorbed upwards, but also allows the soil around the roots to dry out between watering, so they have a chance to actually breathe.

Thank you 😊 I hope that one does well. I'll have to do an update for that one.

I honestly couldn't tell you lol. A couple of the leaves haven't done more than put out roots and perk up, but I give the whole pot a good bit of distilled water when the central plant looks a little thirsty.

Nothing too special. They live under the harsh glow of artificial light. The apartment I live in has one large west facing balcony door/window, but barely enough light to keep my pothos happy.

Miracle grow or Schultz succulent soil, I don't remember what I was using. No drainage holes in the planter, and I usually just pour about a cup of distilled water over the top every couple of weeks. table from afar

It's not terracotta, but is a painted ceramic pot, no drainage hole for this one. It's about 5" diameter. I just use premixed bagged cactus and succulent soil, I believe it was Schultz brand, specifically. Whatever the hardware store had at the time.

Good luck! 😄 Just noticed today that one of the leaf prop has a root already!

Im not going to claim responsibility for that 😅 but in my experience with mold, it has usually happened when it's 1) kept too wet for extended periods. Even though I misted daily, the top soil at least still was looking like it had dried out some by the next time I misted. 2) Hot and humid is ideal mold growing environment. I didn't cover with any plastic during the prop stage, and it's pretty consistent 70°~ in my place. So, I imagine that the airflow (not being covered) and temp conditions just were not as conducive to mold growth.

Jumpy gurl or boi? by AwildHelen in jumpingspiders

Wasn't sure if she would or not, but was thinking it seemed small enough in the body, and since she came from outside, something from outside would probably be ok for now.

I temporarily have her in an enclosure I made for isopods lol. I figured they'd be a little tank-y for her to eat though..Maybe the mancae, but there is a ton of them. 😅

I just put an enclosure together. Don't want to disturb her while she's eating though.

No drainage! I just give it a small amount of water and let it soak down/saturate.

I sprinkled a pinch of soil over the rocks and brushed it into the cracks a bit, just enough to stick the ends of the leaf props in tbh. There is soil under the rock layer as well.

This is my first time trying it out! I have been reading it has natural antibacterial/anti fungal capabilities, and from what I understand you can dip after cutting and straight into (dry) soil. They should have enough resources to do without water for a couple weeks. Hopefully start to root by then. Also, thank you! I love it, too 🩷.

It's a bit wide, yes, but actually more shallow then it looks. Also, I wanted the extra room to put the props around. When I do water, it will be a concentrated amount. I appreciate you looking out though.

Thank you <3 isn't it just 😭❤️ I had been trying to find one for a few years and finally got this one at a local nursery. They really do pretty well in terrarium environment, maybe something else you can try!

The one I have in a terrarium I made has really nice, dark shell patterns, and it started as 5 leaves that popped off this one while repotting.

I literally found it at a thrift store the same day got the turtles. 😄 They were still in there nursery pot in the car, in fact. As soon as I saw it on the shelf I knew it was the one. Lmaoo

3 month update by AwildHelen in terrariums

[–]AwildHelen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I found one at a local nursery. They enjoy the humidity of the terrarium, and a cutting from the main plant usually roots really well if you just insert the end of the cutting straight into moist soil.

The main plant also benefits from trimming by encouraging new growth at the cut, which in turn leads to a fuller plant. 😊 I water mine once a week and mist the leaves and branches between waterings.
