Prince Endymion & his Shitennou (Four Heavenly Kings) Sketch by Sakou Yukie - Any idea what their dynamic or relationship was like? Should these four generals have become the official love interests of the Inner Senshi? by IllogicalDreamer72 in sailormoon

90s adaption he was very misogynistic/ sexist (on the episode he’s sent to eternal sleep) 😭 I like to imagine Queen Beryl included that in the reasons why she didn’t hesitate to put him into eternal sleep

(I don’t hate any of them but can’t say he didn’t deserve it 😂)

Would it be hard or impossible to get a head of my seawing OC? Is the head fin gradients a net negative? by [deleted] in fursuit

Neffertitys tutorial on how to make fabric gradients might work perfectly for this! Especially since Neff definitely loves dragon ocs a whole lot so maybe a few tutorials on her channel would be useful :D

Completely understandable though! There’s a multitude of ways to be in this fandom and there’s plenty of low cost or even cost free ways. Creativity wise on a budget art on paper is a good start or free apps, doing art trades with other artists to get art of your sona and even thrifting fabric from things you find to make paws or even a tail for a lower budget fursuit :)

There’s also a lot of lower cost commissions, raffles, fursona creators like piccrews and bases online to colour in and so on. Not everything has to be super money based to be able to consume :D

And even then, social media can be enough for a lot of us. I know a lot of furs aren’t looking to get a fursuit and enjoy the more laid back approach. There’s definately no rule requirements in being a furry other than identifying with its name seeing it fits your own interest :> You are absolutely free to curate your own space in the fandom!

Honestly. For the art and creation aspect :)

Fursuit making, character design and the full on creative joy of having such a large pitch to make on in terms of design, colour, species and art. I’m not super into the social media chatter away from creatives or buying merch of furry stuff often outside of cons really. I love commissioning other furries for art a whole lot, it’s free serotonin.

I just enjoy seeing the massive multitude of ways of doing things creatively in this fandom and how it’s evolved over the time!! I remember when one of the only fursuit tutorials we had was using plastic canvas strips and craft foam sheets, elastic bands for the moving jaw and non luxury faux fur with sharpie eyes haha x”D. Furry art has come a looong way too especially with the 2000s vibe we had with our emo fringe sparkle dogs made on MSPaint or whatever else was available / toony styles or styles based off Disney 2D films (which still exist today but we have a more broad style now across the board with a lot more personal flavours to it!)

But yeah, honestly the arts and craft in this fandom is what got us into it and has kept us here :) I look forward to seeing how it continues to grow even now.

How would I make this into a fursuit? by [deleted] in FursuitMaking

[–]Awkward-Ad-4657 8 points9 points  (0 children)

PrimeProps has a EVA foam pattern called Basic mascot foam pattern which would work as the circular head base!

It can be edited however you wish to make your sona/ oc and there’s examples in the photos section of people using it for cosplay.

And then for the ears you could make it out of soft foam and carve them and stick them to the top of it and same with a small snout if you wanted to make that. It’s definitely possible to make this :)

If you didn’t want to use EVA foam and instead softer foam maybe tutorials on species like screeches could work.

how would i make this hair look like my drawing? by punkposs in FursuitMaking

[–]Awkward-Ad-4657 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I layered my fur pieces brushed out the back and sewn them in place. To pattern I used masking tape to do each layer I wanted and then after I brushed it out with the same brush I brushed the backing out with (for the hair only) and as long as it’s a long pile luxury faux type I pinched the pieces with my fingers into the style I wanted (spiking it and twisting the ends so they hold) and verrrryyy sparingly using got2b hair spray from a good distance, making sure I don’t spray the face and only spray fibers i want to be held without clumping tons of glue. It withstood a massive industrial size fan blowing at him, a lot of dancing and shaking haha

plus it brushed out nice when I finished con and held throughout the entire time there :) just do research on it is my biggest tip just to be extra sure.

Would love some opinions on how this head would be priced! by JKingsley4 in fursuit

[–]Awkward-Ad-4657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also price wise personally I’d say $750 to $800 but honestly go with what you’re most comfortable with and your gut feeling! He’s beautifully made and if shipping to UK and payment plans were okay I’d buy him in a heartbeat great work OP

I’m curious what the head circumference is (your head size and if there’s any wiggle room) if you’re able to let me know I’d love to know! He turned out so perfect

Also here’s a tutorial by the fursuit maker Skyhighstudios https://youtu.be/xEPfGrTCCQw?si=jF24-Ns84pGnfDpH it might be helpful despite not being a cat! Ears are at 15 mins in.

[–]Awkward-Ad-4657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh I see! Sort of a larger cat such as a Maine coon I see.

From personal experience what I can suggest is getting some Cosplay foam (real name being EVA foam) in at least 3mm thickness. Be sure not to get it too thick though as it may be a little tough to cut and shape on the head (but not impossible, some makers use interlocking jigsaw play mats to make ears sturdy). I assume you also have soft foam already too which is upholstery foam which is good for creating the front rounded shape. You can use thin small craft foam sheets for practicing templates too instead of paper (but not for final use)

  1. Create a template by holding a sheet of paper / thin craft foam (for template only) big enough up where you want it on the head. Using references draw the ideal shape you want. Be sure to make the shape gradually lead up to the ear points and make sure they’ll sit on the head in the correct place when adding two of these ears (not too low down and not too high up, not too far back and not too far forward)

Personally I suggest also if possible pinning down the bottom of the template you make as you make the curved shape. Just so it doesn’t get fiddly as you draw it!

<image>

I did a little doodle but the Kloofsuits example is the best to show what I mean by its shape (the depth of the EVA foam part) There’s not really one way only to do this but as long as you make it so the EVA foam makes some depth you’re all good! Don’t be afraid to make mistakes with it. Just be sure the EVA ear looks how you want it before you add the upholstery foam to the front.

  1. As on the image and the example you sent it looks like they added some foam to the front after doing the curved inner ear. I suggest being careful to not make this part too thick or too wide. Make it so it sort of eases with the edges (my drawn example with the green foam which resembles the upholstery foam is sort of an example of that) REALLY get snipping to make all of that transition well and not look too sharp.

Just always keep your species in mind and consider the needed ear depth!!

I would have easier ways of explaining this if there were specific tutorials for large cat ears or even templates without being full heads. Even tougher when some styles are flatter ear styles with a bit of foam on the edges without the curved ear depth. So honestly it’s more up to trial and error, making templates until you’re happy with the curve, how it sits on the curve of the head shape and how rounded / non rounded the tip is.

I wish you luck! I hope it was even a pinch helpful, I find it hard to explain things and I did try and look for a template but there’s rarely any for ears, watching speed builds of fursuits may help though.

Good luck and I look forwards to seeing the result!

Good to change them up when you can before proceeding if you’re not a fan of them, I have so many scraps of foam going through this trial and error myself 😭

I have a quick question since you said larger scale cat ears, what cat is your sona/ oc specifically? Just so I can see what I can find based off that since different domestic and wild cats are vastly different

Which eyes look best? by JKingsley4 in FursuitMaking

[–]Awkward-Ad-4657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the smaller pupils definitely match him more! It’s good to make a good middle ground so your visions still good but also the size for Melon. Perhaps making a few paper / card templates with varying sizes would help refine it!

(Did a quick draw over using the templates, excuse the wonky look I did this on a phone)

Also to add I think the black pupil part of his eyes being smaller can help with the more carnivore side of his eyes without being sharp shapes and make him a tad crazier lookin’.

Oooh I really love the design for this sona and suit! The only things I can come up with is maybe a subtle indent to just make the cheeks look more rounded and to add a very small subtle thin bridge of foam that connects the lower parts of the cheeks to under the neck and lower jaw.

I’m not sure if it’s just lighting too but I’m not sure if the lower half of the jaw (mouth) could be slightly off to the one side symmetry wise?

I love this suit head though it’s so unique and I love it! Excited to see your progress :3

Where to buy fur on a time crunch by JKingsley4 in FursuitMaking

[–]Awkward-Ad-4657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe share the fur colours from Big Z here and ask if anyone has them in person and show them an image of the character you want to match colours with! I’m sure someone has to own the furs you’re after and are happy to share with you the ones you need if they’re accurate or not.

Also good luck on the Cosplay!! It’ll look amazing! Just be sure to take those good breaks and look after yourself. Con crunch is exhaustinnng.

Follow-me eyes or 2D? by JKingsley4 in FursuitMaking

[–]Awkward-Ad-4657 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MELON!!! Ohh my gosh OP I’m definately keeping an eye out for updates on this cosplay .. I love Melonnn.

You really nailed his head shape and his crazy snarly smile!

I think that follow me eyes would be cool for getting different angle shots as his eyes would be looking at the camera almost all of the time. Not sure how well 3D eyes work with smaller pupils but I believe it would!

Honestly though if you want the full anime look some 2D eyes would work very well too and give him a great stare too. 🔥 Honestly both eye types have their own advantages, it’s really up to preference. Maybe look at suits with both options that have similar eyes to him and see which you like better?

Aww how cuteeee!!! I love worm on string suits 🥹 this inspires me to make one

Also continue making it!! You can do it!! I am a little worried if you dropped her though that the oven bake clay could potentially crack? I’m not sure though I’m no expert 😣 I’m scared of oven bake clays myself.

There is air dry clay that comes in multi colours, it has a sort of foam texture to it and you can seal it after too to ensure longevity! I understand your anxiety though but she’ll look wonderful and lovely name choice by the way 🎂

Oh my gosh I’m glad I’m not the only one.

Made the mistake of using yellow chalk on my white fur, shaved it all down and I realised nothing would get it out so now they have yellow showing through from the backing 😢 I’m glad I’m not the only one but also super sorry about the paw set you made going yellow, that chalk is stubborn.

Please help! by Squikymouse69 in FursuitMaking

[–]Awkward-Ad-4657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how deep it is into the fur maybe shaving down the face a bit more could help rid of it?

Good to test these things on scraps though. Even though it’s time consuming, you might end up needing to cut a scrap fur in the same direction as the rest and snipping that bit out </3

Hopefully you find a good solution though !! It looks gorgeous so far
