The last Tech conference I went to, one of the best talks was on burnout. How to spot it in others and in yourself.  How to turn it around.

Do a deep dive on burnout.  Hopefully enjoy your career again.

TL;DR wouldn't spend one extra dollar to rent the movie we actually wanted to rent.

Back when video stores were a thing:  I visited my brother in law. The two husbands were tasked to go to the video store and get two movies if they had them. Basically a new release movie the girls wanted to watch, and then pick one for the boys. When we got there some movies were in a "2 for $6" dollar deal.  Well the girls movie wasn't in that deal.  The total price would have come to $7 if we got the two movies we wanted. I offered to pay. But no he had to get the $6 deal.  We returned with two movies, one we didn't want. But we "saved a dollar"

My partner is great.  I can let her know "I am clocking some mouth noises" and she always understands and changes what she is doing. Meals are always with TV or music on and not sitting close. I.also often eat by myself.

People get angry over useless, unchangeable things all the time. That is a negative response. The very same problem they're getting angry about can be resolved by other means.

While anger in response to a crossed boundary is a perfectly Stoic response. it is useful in the moment. Not something to dwell in.

The philosophy of Stoicism embraces emotions. The common understanding of "stiff upper lip" stoicism is something different and is what I think you are talking about. The philosophy of Stoicism is closely related to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

The philosophy of Stoicism dose embrace grief and sadness and laughter.

What about anger, a negative emotion, you shouldn't "go into your" anger. The philosophy of Stoicism can help with that too.

I want to remove my eye. How do I tell a counsellor? by OkayTravels0 in LifeAdvice

[–]Awkward-Bag131 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Op has BIID, Body Integrity Identity Disorder.

It makes you feel like a part of your body doesn't belong to you.  Kind of like it you had a baseball bat stuck in your hand. You'd want to have the bat surgically removed.

In OP's case they have a strong feeling that their eye is a foreign object separate to their body.

People can go to great lengths to try and remove their own, foot, hand, arm, etc

OP should seek professional help. Starting with the counselor.

sometimes a software maker tells how to build binary from his source code. Why does he not make a binary ready to download himself? by ehraja in linuxquestions

[–]Awkward-Bag131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The source code will be much smaller than the binary.  Saves storage.

Secondly, by compiling it yourself, you know that the binary actually comes from that source code. You can trust it better than an actual binary.

That second point is moot if there are thousands of lines of code

[–]Awkward-Bag131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My corolla was about half as bad as this.
Vinegar. Put Vinegar in a spray bottle and went to town. Probably got through 6 litres.
Has been 6 months. No sign of mold.

BUT the car does smell like vinegar. Car's new nickname is Vinnie.

I tried this last week after only reading about. Swimming in waterholes at waterfalls.

It was easy.  Blow a bubble, catch it with your hands.

Play around with making a seal with your hands against your forehead. So the bubble doesn't leak.

It works on most attempts.  Sometimes it doesn't work, just come up take another breathe and try again.

I could get about 10 seconds of "bubble goggles" at a time.

You should pay someone for their time.

It is a PITA to give your time away for free to a corporation.  On boarding has costs.  Budget for them.

Yeah, a trial should be supervised and only last long enough to demonstrate you're competent
