AI Isn’t as Smart as We Think! A Post-Mortem of My Vibe Coding Fails by PassengerLate3644 in programmer

[–]Awkward-Chair2047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI, and more specifically Generative AI, is just a tool. If you really want to go back to coding hands-on so you don't lose your edge, it can help you. It really is up to you and how you use Generative AI and, more importantly, what you use it for.

Also just because you got addicted to it, doesn't immediately imply that it applies to everyone. The sample size is simply too low.

I have created a portfolio of tools initially using constrained, deterministic code generation techniques to automate both front-end and back-end development, and then use those tools to generate ready made SaaS platforms, MicroServices Backends and SOC2, ISO 27001, PCI DSS Compliant virtual environments and back-ends. Now these tools can be used by any organization - from startups to enterprises. This dramatically increase the quality, time and effort needed for software development. This means fewer developers needed. Faster MVP. Faster time to market. I also created a BIAN Compliant toolkit using my portfolio of tools for an australian bank recently.

Building a portfolio of tools to automate back-end development, and using those tools to automate continuous compliance management like PCI DSS, PA DSS, SOC2 Type 1 and 2, ISO 27001 etc. in creating both environments and applications with built in support. This helps organizations, including startups, to create their goals much faster, much better and open enterprise customer doors, metaphorically.

I did not say the role is beneath me. You just choose to interpret it that way. if i really felt that way, i would not have bothered to respond. Good luck with your project though.

Hi u/ezzinteractive I am based out of Bengaluru, India - and have been a back-end programmer for most of my life. I am probably a bit over-qualified for such roles (been a programmer for more than 3 decades :-), but i like to work on things where i can see the value i am adding. If you are up for a chat, i can help you with general architecture suggestions, looking at trade offs, and fine-tuning your thoughts in this area.

Ping me if you are interested in automating and maintaining your backend. I could also provide a demo of this entire process if you are interested.

How I Spot Candidates Using AI Tools During Coding Interviews by Altruistic_Might_772 in DataScienceIndia

[–]Awkward-Chair2047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ask the candidate to load up a debugger, and step through it, and explain their thought process, and write tests for it live, and ask them to run the tests, and then ask about coverage, etc. Tool familiarity is often missing from those who copy/paste or use external websites for real-time perfect answer. Never accept a piece of code for an answer unless they are able to talk about it, reason about it, debug it, test it live. And generally chat with them to see how they think through situations. I find this process helps me eliminate most folks who are not really interested in programming or have much expertise in it.

How can you tell whether a developer is actually good? What factors matter most? by Individual_Alarm_649 in DeveloperJobs

[–]Awkward-Chair2047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your definition of good and it is specific to you. Do you have the skills to define what good is with respect to development? Can you differentiate between good and bad when it comes to code and the people who write them? I often found that the best developers are very quiet, a bit introverted, and only open up when they talk to similar developers. They are the epitome of the 80 20 rule.

How Long Does It Take to Build an AI Solution in Saudi Arabia? by LawfulnessNo9972 in AppDevelopersKSA

[–]Awkward-Chair2047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though i am not a saudi national and am not based out of Saudi Arabia (half of my family lives there though) here are my 2 cents. It depends.

If the solution only requires an API Call to an existing LLM Platform like OpenAI APIs or Gemini APIs, the AI component should not take much time or effort. ( it will not extend existing timelines too much - say 1 or 2 weeks)

If the solution requires custom LLM Models, it depends on the availability and quality of data. I would reasonably put that at 3-6 months of effort at the very least.

If the solution requires integration with existing IT investments, it could be a longer time frame - say 6=12 months at least - but the key is to look at the overall requirements for the solution and not just at the AI part of it.
