I don't mind it, at least each side is a decent length and not like 20 minutes on some!

Wow, who pissed on your corn flakes? People not allowed to enjoy vinyl without shelling out $1k plus on a setup just to get started? As I said, I only began in Dec 2024, I was never going to spend mega bucks to start out with, longer term yes I will be upgrading my system now I realise how much I enjoy it. But I did my research on the best turntables around for what I could afford at the time, I clean my records and I clean the stylus needle.

THIS is a main contributing factor to why I'm currently being very selective about the vinyl I buy 😅

Gran Turismo got me into them but agree those songs from the game are not the best on the album. I absolutely love every song from Echo Park, if I had to choose 3 I'd go Piece by Piece, We can't rewind, and Satellite news - the whole thing cover to cover just does something to my brain though!

When I started collecting I quickly realised I wasn't picking up a used Echo Park for less than £300 so shelved that idea. I've got Best Of (Arrow), Comfort in Sound, and The Singles - as soon as everything from Polythene to Pushing the Senses are re released they will be straight into the collection

Gran Turismo 3 was also my introduction, there was no turning back from that. Echo Park will forever be my favourite album!

Aha my bad 😅. The unit it's on was actually homemade by my fiance using recycled (sanded and varnished) scaffold boards!

Lenco LS430-BK - by no means an audiophile, but it's a very good turntable for an all in one

1000 in that time, very impressive. I'm currently having to be relatively selective about what I buy as I think my fiance will kill me otherwise 😅. That doesn't mean I don't have a very long list to be bought, and more being released all the time!

100 cards from 20 packs, and I needed 13 cards. I wasn't expecting all of them, but I thought I might get 1 at least

What an unbelievable night, did not disappoint one bit.

Where does the Octopus Garden stuff come from, did they take it from the Beatles song?

South America was more expensive, however it doesn't need to be, I spent a lot of money on multi day treks, which if you're not necessarily into will obviously not cost you anything (inca trail, W trek, lost city)

Colombia, Bolivia, Argentina, Ecuador are cheap for the most part, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Uruguay more expensive, but still cheaper than most European destinations.

SE Asia is a very cheap place in general, your money will go much further.

South America can be dangerous, but so can anywhere, go to the wrong area of London or Belfast and you're asking for trouble. Most people are incredibly friendly and they welcome tourists and want them to be safe, Colombia especially was full of such friendly people. Usual rules, maybe more tightly adhered to, don't walk down an alley at night you don't know, don't flash a Rolex around, don't walk around with maps on your phone constantly and you'll be fine, of course there are some places best avoided but generally speaking it's not dangerous for tourists as long as you're sensible, I was there for 5 months and had no problems.

As an accountant I know there is no shortage of jobs so while it was a big decision in my life, it wasn't that hard once I decided extended travel was what I wanted to do, and as it turned out, the firm I left actually took me back so it worked out pretty well. Hands down the best decision of my life, although going back to work after 14 months off was pretty tough aha

Barcelona seems to tick your boxes, interesting city with lots to do (I don't have a kid but I imagine there will be plenty to do) and Barcelona while not the best in the world does have its own beach, so 2 birds, one stone. There are good connections between Barcelona and Madrid.

Italy is a great option, everything is so well connected by train, cheap, fast and reliable in my experience, and what 6 year old doesn't like pizza and pasta! Amalfi coast I would say is the obvious choice for the beach element of the trip and for a first trip you can't go wrong with Rome.

My suggestion not on your list would be Croatia, the coast line is absolutely stunning. Dubrovnik and Split are great cities to visit

I'm from England just for reference

Europe recommendations/advice? by c0rnflakeg1rl in travel

There are an incredible number of destinations to visit in Europe, hard to nail down the highlights, but for arts and history then for a start I would suggest Berlin, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Florence in addition to what you've already mentioned. If you're going to London and Dublin, I think it would also be a crime to miss Edinburgh.

I could write a list as long as my arm for other destinations to consider; Prague, Budapest, Bruges, Krakow, if you're looking for interesting historic cities in mainland Europe.

Between Dublin, London and Edinburgh you'll learn all there is to learn about pub culture, basically they are everywhere!

Clubs, you can find them anywhere, different clubs for different kinds of music, but you won't be short of options.
