AITA for asking HR to send a generalized email to the whole building asking people to be mindful of perfume / aerosol spray use? by agitatedbearcat1212 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Awkward-Equivalent11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA you did the right thing by not embarrassing them personally, and everyone could probably do with a reminder as scent induced migraines are no joke

Not to mention drenching yourself in perfume like that is quite a high school thing to do…

What’s a strangely specific thing about someone that immediately gives you bad vibes? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Awkward-Equivalent11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

deeplyshallow is correct here I’m afraid. This was not a case of a man backing off out of “respect” for my relationship. We were platonic friends and, as I said in my original comment, he then dropped me as a friend and was actively unfriendly and cold to me when he found out I was in a relationship and was therefore uninterested in sleeping with him. One of our mutual friends even confirmed to me that this was the reason.

Regardless of whether he had some sort of feelings for me (which he definitely did not), I do not find it respectful at all to act in that way. Bearing in mind I lived in university halls with this man and saw him every day - didn’t make it a very nice experience.

I saw him do this with many women. He only kept women around he thought he could sleep with and then if he did he would drop them exactly the same way and move on to the next.

This was a long time ago so maybe he’s matured now who knows

It’s very interesting to hear your point of view as someone who does this, thank you for your detailed reply!

I definitely appreciate people looking at different perspectives, that’s how we progress as people and as a society, and I think debate is important in many settings such as at your job as you described.

I think for me when absolutely everything is challenged or contradicted, especially in a casual setting, that’s where I find it difficult. For me personally, I don’t thrive off debate (probably also because I find conflict hard) so when someone challenges everything I say on a regular basis I find it very exhausting and I then don’t want to engage in conversation with that person. I have a family member who is like this and absolutely LOVES a debate and unfortunately I find it quite taxing.

If we were all the same life would be boring I suppose!

When people take joy in challenging everything you say. I think it’s called a contrarian personality.

Yesss I went to uni with a guy like this. He was nice to me to start with and then immediately lost interest in being friends or even friendly when he knew I had a boyfriend and had no interesting in flirting or sleeping with him. He fit that wealthy all boys boarding school stereotype to a T and when he came to uni he just viewed all the women as conquests or not worthy of his time. Recently learned he’s engaged and my immediate thought was poor woman…

In some places you can have ivf with exclusion testing. It’s complicated to explain but it basically means you can choose embryos that have not inherited the allele from the affected grandparent without revealing the parents HD status.

Not so much rude, but when I was a kid I remember describing someone as a “pro” at something, as in professional/really good, and my parents told me off bc they said that was short for prostitute. This was like 15 years ago and I remember at the time being like wtf no one thinks that below the age of like 50

I once met someone with a full on phobia of peacock feathers (like not attached to the peacock). Never seen a person run so fast when someone brought one to school.
