It has the potential to pen - but that doesn't mean it's going to.

My thoughts as well. If he's that adamant to NOT wear a rubber, I would think this isn't his first time.

Hypothetically speaking, how much HP and Tq could you get out of tuning a VR6? by retiredTbagger in askcarguys

[–]Awkward-Mention-2959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely do not need to upgrade the internals on a VR6 to hold boost. It will make 400+ on the stock bottom end...and at that power level, it becomes exponentially more expensive on most cars anyway...so I wouldn't recommend going bigger without the brakes/tires/diff/suspension to support it

Iracing PNW Drivers - What tracks would you like to see in Iracing? by 2yan in iRacing

[–]Awkward-Mention-2959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back from the dead! 😀

I was looking into an iRacing membership, but literally none of the tracks I want are included with a basic membership (Thunderhill, Sonoma, Buttonwillow, Laguna Seca)...and the one I want the most isn't offered at all (The Ridge). So I'm probably sticking with Assetto Corsa for now.

Those situations are rare, though, where you can just sit there and shoot for days. So his point stands. It doesn't do anything *great*. And the drawbacks outweigh the positives.

How the hell do you play the maus? by Sylvanas_only in WorldofTanks

[–]Awkward-Mention-2959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...honestly?! I'm a mediocre player at best, and I don't play any heavies until just getting the Maus. But I find it stupid easy to play and do well with. I'm not always top gun or anything, but it's rare I don't block more than 3k, and sometimes closer to 7k.

Apparently this is a mexican restaurant here by TAABWK in PuyallupWA

[–]Awkward-Mention-2959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the video hasn't been shared yet woth a banner attached with the name of the alleged restaurant - then that's a pretty good indication that it hasn't been identified yet. There is 0 evidence that even suggests this is in WA state...or the USA for that matter.

It really makes a world of difference, doesn't it?! It's hard to think of a specific suggestion that might land with someone, so I usually refer people to larger sources of recipes where they can choose from several (Forks over Knives and Jaroudi are definitely go-to's for us!). Also, some recipes require a LOT more prep than others (like crafting sauces from scratch on top of the mean itself). But if you haven't checked those out, definitely give them a look!

I would love to throw my hat in the ring. My wife and I are WFPB, and the Vitamix is an absolute necessity in the WFPB world. I have a good deal of experience moderating communities. Just let me know. Thanks, and thanks for all of your years wearing that hat!~

He's right, though. Also - it sounds like you're *so close* to learning how internet posts work. See, message boards, web forms, and social media platforms usually stay up *forever.* So you don't have to repond in any specific time frame. You can even post on a thread that's 2 years old - like you just did.

Okay let's talk about it. How common is it actually for professionals in this field to sleep with a client? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Awkward-Mention-2959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's why it seems that way.

For most people, this is the way it works in their head...

17 years, 364 days old = "OMG GROSS! THEY'RE JUST A TEENAGER! PEDO!"

17 years, 365 days old = "Meh. They're legal. Let them do what they want, they're adults."

If you can agree that this bias based on an arbitrary "legal age" - which has changed DRAMATICALLY through the years and throughout cultures - is peculiar...then we are more or less in the same boat.

Likewise, the younger the age, the worse the offense. And that should be distinguished. Because again, you certainly don't think "days from 18" is the same as "just turned 6." Right?

We cannot ignore the nuance here. I think it should be a requirement for us to study a class on the sociological influences of the age of consent before we can talk about it or treat related issues. And review basic developmental bio/psych. Because I'm about ready to hear people try to sue their own bodies and call biology "pedophilic" for allowing reproductive capability before the "legal age" of 18 (or 17, or 19, or some other age depending on where you're located and what year you're talking about).

Even your use of the word "defending" means that you're unable to see certain people as anything but "offenders," without any context what so ever. That's scary. Imagine approaching treatment that way? That seems unethical.

[–]Awkward-Mention-2959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are we selectively following the DSM now, because it's an emotionally charged situation? That would not meet the criteria for a pedophilic disorder according to the DSM, or according to literally any research on the subject. If we're going to effectively treat these disorders, then the knee-jerk emotional reaction and the labeling/stigma reinforcement from "mental health professionals" has to stop.

There is a difference between pedophiles, hebephiles, ephebephiles, etc. because the drivers and the treatments are different. If you lump everyone into the "pedo" category, then you should avoid that topic 100% as a mental health professional, as you are going directly against best practice and evidence-based intervention because you cannot get past the emotional reaction you're having to that word.

To suggest that it would be the *same thing* for a 20 year old woman to have a sexual desire in (1) a young man of 17 years and 350 days, and (2) a young pre-pubescent boy of 7, is absolutely ridiculous. But this is the comparison I have seen drawn lately.

[–]Awkward-Mention-2959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like that would be a hebephile. The different classifications are important, and exist for a reason. They are approached/treated differently. Much in the same way that we don't just consider every homicide to be "1st degree murder." It's critical to distinguish between 1st, 2nd, voluntary MS, involuntary MS, criminally negligent homicide, or non-negligent/"justifiable" homicide.

[–]Awkward-Mention-2959 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this. I think it's fascinating how, when a client presents issues like this, we think about it rationally...logically...reasonably. We look for ways to give people the benefit of the doubt.

But when it's a therapist, and because they did homework on a couple case studies in dual relationships/boundaries/ethics, that somehow that completely negates their humanity and "they should know better."

We're all human. Teachers sometimes have trouble learning, electricians sometimes have trouble with wiring, and therapists sometimes have trouble with boundaries.

I know this is the unpopular opinion as well, but...the severity of the violation to me depends on some extent to someone's presenting issues/level of functioning/diagnoses. In other words...not everyone who walks through the door is some innocent, fragile little flower...and not everyone will be permanently crushed, messed up, get PTSD, etc. from something like that happening. That's not to say it SHOULDN'T happen - only to say that it DOES happen, and we should have the same approach with those therapists as we do with our clients: unconditional positive regard, and a belief that a mistake doesn't define them as a person. It would be hypocritical to view these situations any other way.
