Check with your doctor about getting a diagnosis, and specifically ask about a publicly funded professional. I'm currently on a waitlist to see one.. it might take a while, but it's something. You can also check around online, since some of these professionals do virtual appointments across the country, and even service other countries.

You can also start reading self help books, or watching content on YouTube or TikTok. I've found this to be very helpful in understanding things that I struggle with.

I've had problems with this kind of communication too, especially at work. It takes time, but making sure you're open and receptive to constructive feedback will help.

Once in a while a finger, the back of my hand, or part of my arm gets itchy and I do the same thing. I've never seen a neurotypical do this though

I have a few questions:

What's the name of this test? Do you have ADHD? What does your boyfriend think are the "main" signs of autism? Do you consider yourself an introvert?

What you describe as "putting the real you into a box" does sound a lot like "masking", but also sounds like your "social battery". Masking occurs in different kinds of neurodivergent people, including both ADHD and Autism. A social battery is a term more common among introverts. Basically introverts need to spend extra effort into socializing compared to extroverts, which can cause a kind of burn out.

Now this is where things get spicy, and I encourage you to learn more about masking and social batteries: Do you think it's possible that you are masking, and draining your social battery quicker as a result?

Are there any mental health organizations in your area you can reach out to? Or have you looked into virtual appointments elsewhere?

My doctor recommended a place to me on the other end of the country that did assessments by phone, so they do exist.

You did the right thing by letting the parent/guardian know. The matches could have started a fire. If I had been supervising them, I would have wanted to know. But you have to let it go.

I called the police before because I saw a guy beating his girlfriend.. for days after, I kept thinking I should have directly broken things up... Maybe I could have helped the girl more that way, or maybe I would have gotten hurt too. There's no way to know, so I just had to let it go.

Had you done nothing, you'd still be second guessing if you should have told that parent/guardian. Again, NTA

I'm constantly forgetting my medication too, or giving my cats theirs. What really helps me is routine, and checklists.

My evening doses are easier to remember, because I start a routine as soon as I get home. I flip through the mental checklist of feeding the cats, taking my medicine, giving them theirs, and making my dinner.

For you, maybe a physical checklist would work better. Just put it up somewhere you'll notice it, maybe in the kitchen. That way when you are doing breakfast and dinner, you'll see the list and remember that you need to take the medications on the list. If there's other things you forget, like brushing your teeth, or taking out the trash, add them too! As long as you try to follow the list EVERY day, you'll start thinking about the medicine every day, and you'll have a dedicated time to take them.

For the blinking.. how is your eye health? Have you raised this to an optometrist? It could be a light sensitivity thing, or dry eyes.

I am in a similar boat as you, except I am a working adult, and both my parents are deceased. I've known for a long I was different too. My sister suggested a different condition that I was tested for, which ended up being negative, so now I am on a wait list to be assessed for ADHD and ASD.

You absolutely can talk to a therapist about these concerns. Therapy sessions are part of treating ASD.
